Stepan 3C stopgap
I don't think Arizona can trade Stepan unless they somehow add other centers. He's only owed $2M. A random center replacement eats at least half the cash savings from a trade. They have noone else to eat minutes other than Dvorak. Hayton is a giant question mark. Those are the only three guys under contract at C. And Tocchet loves him. They probably hold him until the deadline, then his cap hit is prorated, and it's even cheaper to retain to maximize the return. I
I don't think he's worth much right now, and there's no reason to create a giant hole in the lineup to save a million dollars or less.
Tipp would love him. He'd be a good deadline acquisition.

They'd have to be pretty well convinced he's worth the gamble to take a $53M, seven year marriage gamble... Which also implies they know he's worth way more than an expiring 5D...

Their only other NHL C's under contract are Stepan (expiring deal) and Hayton who is a giant question mark. I imagine they'd need to answer "who plays center on this team today and tomorrow" to answer " what would it take to get Dvorak".
Credits to the OP who actually offered valuable pieces in return, I just don't see how Arizona trades any of their three centers. Stepan's only owed $2M going forward. He probably gets dealt at the deadline.

Coyotes can pay $850k owed to Kessel this year and $5.1M next year for a total of 5.95M over two years.
OR they could pay a guy $3M this year and $3.5M next for a total of 6.5M over two years to not be in the NHL .
Don't imagine they are interested in losing Kessel to actually add total salary, including most of the increase due this year, just to add a pick.

Why is Edmonton adding a $8.5M cap commitment to a guy who doesn't have any more value than Russel on an expiring contract?

Just based on Tweets of rumors and what insiders have talked about
Seems like Arizona could find a better way to save $2.5M this year than giving away their starter for a worse one with higher cap hit whose contract is expiring. I'd expect there to be some sort of inventive beyond, "well, you save $2.5M". Especially with rumours that they have a first on the table already. Which ostensibly both saves them $3.5M this season, and $4.5M cap and adds a premier asset.

Even pretending that's the best offer they got, I think they'd take their chances finding a different way to deal with salary in 2023 rather than increase salary for a worse roster over the next two seasons...

I doubt Hinostroza gets qualified. He doesn't have much trade value. Keumper would still fetch more than that.
Stepan is only owed $2M, and they have no centers. Can't see him going until the deadline when his hit is prorated and it's also cheaper to retain.
Presumably, if they are trading OEL it's to avoid paying him next $10M next year. He's still owed $4m this year. That's $14M obligation over two years. Here you have them taking on 8.475M this year and next. And they only send back $5.8. So they downgrade their roster and increase salary this year by almost three million to save ~$1.52M next year?
Sounds like a terrible idea.

Why is cap-strapped Toronto giving up a second round pick for AA at $3M-- a guy neither the Coyotes or Oilers plan on qualifying. Why would the Coyotes take on Neal's anchor contract to add a second round pick? Kessel's contract isn't great, but at least he's only $850,000. The Coyotes are broke.
You need a team with lots of cap room and deep pockets to take Neal, and you'll have to pay them. Maybe NJ.

It's the $17.25M Neal the part that matters?!
I doubt AA even gets qualified. So why is the broke team trading the $5.95M obligation to Kessel that they are done with in two seasons for a $17.25M, 3-year obligation for Neal? What exactly is the incentive?

Presumably Arizona sees tremendous value in AA at $3M per?
2020 money out: $850k
2020 money in: $8.75M
2021 money out: $5.1M
2021 money in: $8.75
2022 money out: 0
2022 money in: $8.75M
And they take almost $2M extra cap for the firs two years as the cherry on top.
Bill Armstrong must think AA is a franchise player.

So they traded Kessel at 850k salary and 5.1M salary the next two years for 5.75M for three years for Neal? And added AA who presumably represents "value" at his 3M per qualifying offer?
$850k this year for $8.75M. That's an order of magnitude worse.
Next year is better. They "only" added $3 .65M that year.
Of course, they're on the hook for the full $8.75M again in year three.
Sounds like some thing a budget conscious team would do...

You can retain up to 50% on the portion you are on the hook for. Toronto is retaining 15% on Kessel. You can retain 50% on what you're on the hook for (which is 42.5% of the total cap hit of 8M) . So you deal Kessel at 3.4M cap hit.
Kessel is only owed $850k from the Coyotes the rest of the year, and $5.1M next yr. Neal is owed $5.75M for three years. That is a terrible idea. Retaining on Kessel AND paying Neal is even worse.

I don't know. I suspect it would be something you don't want to give up. But I also suspect most Coyotes fans wouldn't be thrilled with the return if he was traded.
He's only owed $2.5M this season. They need more talent, not less. There's no urgency to trading him, imo. I think you'd need to replace Riemer with one of your buried D prospects before they'd be interested. Personally, I wouldn't trade him without an actual NHL forward coming back, but who knows.

I can see interest in Riemer because his salary is so low, but they've got Hill to be a backup and one of Keumper or Raanta. Darcy makes $3.5M. Raanta is owed $2M. Doesn't save much. I'd imagine Riemer+ would go for Darcy.
Can't see much interest in Riemer as a main piece in a Keller trade. Bokk was an Armstrong pick, but there's not enough value coming to AZ in that trade.

I doubt AA is qualified, at $3M, but I also doubt Raanta returns much given his durability concerns. So, eh. Wouldn't really bother me, but probably not what I would do. I'd probably rather have a third than qualify AA (who would be fine as a free agent add at under $3M, but...)
Stepan is only owed $2M outstanding. Schmaltz shouldn't be a center. Haven't seen anything that suggests Hayton is capable of playing big minutes. Can't see dumping Stepan under those circumstances.
Love the idea of adding Lowry, but Jets are also looking at adding centers not giving them away.

Yeah, there are only two players still owed $4M (OEL and Goligoski). Everybody else is quite cheap the rest of this year. They should be well under $70M. There's not really a way to cut much more. They need to clear a little cap, and I'm sure wouldn't mind cutting salary, but even a league minimum player replacing Stepan only saves 1.3M. I think one of the D will go to make room for Soderstrom, but I can't see trading Stepan when they have no centers ready to step in.

Stepan is only owed $2M the rest of the season, and AZ has only him and Dvorak at center. Probably Hayton. They aren't going to pay their only pick in the top90 for the next two drafts to save $2M. He'll get dealt at the deadline with retention.
