They don't want to pay their all situation dman $10M a season later, so they're obviously excited to get a bunch of money and cap back while paying him $1.6M for those years to play for someone else. Because they love a first round pick and a prospect who has never broken in to a full time gig THAT much!

No chance, AZ deals Chychrun. Especially for that.
Honestly, I'd probably trade Schmaltz for Risto+, but I'm in the minority among Coyotes fans.

I'm really opposed to taking back terrible money locked into the back up position for Raanta who has the #1 save % in the league over the last five years for goalies with over 40 games played. But I also love Tage Thompson. I'd probably do this.

If AZ is retaining 50%, they are retaining 50% of the AAV every year AND 50% of the real dollars every year.
It'd be idiotic. "They don't want to pay OEL $10M!". So they're going to pay him $5M to play in Edmonton? Lol

Trouba's contract starts saving them money next season and beyond. It's not completely crazy.

AZ trade for cap dump
Yeah. i was just pointing out that trading those guys isn't really a salary driven decision at this point. They'd want value. I think there's something to be done there around Schmaltz and Raanta for Dumba, but I'm not sure how to properly balance out all the pieces.

Raanta or their expiring defensemen seem like far easier moves to clear cap because they have organic replacements.
You can't go into the season with only Dvorak and Hayton at center. You won't find a better middle-six center for $2M real cash. Can't see him being moved before the deadline. In a vacuum, it's a fine deal. I'm not saying it's horribly lopsided, just that it doesn't fit.

The Thrill
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>joshelkin</b></div><div>It's not about "taking" Boychuk. They just saved 128% off their payroll for the next two years, keeping themselves close to the cap floor and replenishing a pick/prospect. I don't think it's that far off.</div></div>
Bonuses are already paid. Kessel is only owed $850k more this year from the Coyotes. $5.1M next. It's not outrageous money. Bonus money this year is sunk cost; they don't get it back. Toronto is eating 15% of the contract for them.
I think if you retain a third on Boychuk, he's the kind of guy Armstrong would like to bring in, and Kessel's probably not his kind of guy. I don't think it's completely crazy, but you're also not saving Arizona $10M or whatever you're claiming. They'd be paying Boychuk at full pop more than they are paying Kessel.
It's a solid starting point, but I don't think this is a deal that gets done.

Value is alright for AZ, but Hammer already declined to waive his NTC. Also not sure why you have them retaining 50% when you're sending back Ryan's contract. Seems unlikely.

And DeMelo will make much more $, on a longer contract.</div></div>
I think the value is fine, but AZ only has Dvorak and Stepan under contract at C. I'm not sure Hayton makes the roster, and he's almost certainly not ready to be a 2C. Add that Stepan is only owed $2M, and I doubt we see him move until the deadline.

AZ trade for cap dump
I don't think it's a bad starting point. A little light on MN's end. Schmaltz -Dumba makes some sense for both teams-- especially if MN sees Schmaltz as a center. Raanta as great stats, but is a durability question mark. Stalock is just another guy (but he's cheap). They just gave Hill a one-way deal, so I suspect he's AZ's back up. If they trade Keumper, maybe they'd roll the dice on Dubnyk again? Demers is worth substantially more than Sturm, imo.
Schmaltz is only owed $3M this year. Demers has $2.6M remaining. Raanta $2M. When you factor in replacing them in the lineup, it's not as though they are shedding a ton of salary moving any of those guys. They probably want futures or a pure hockey trade.
A name like Greenway might interest AZ with Armstrong's comments about getting bigger in the bottom-six. A guy whose buried like Donato they might see some value in. Picks would probably be attractive for Demers and Raanta. I think there's something to build a deal around, I'm just not sure what it is.

Trying
I can see why they would take him (low salary) to facilitate a trade, but not why they would want him or consider him a value add. If the rumoured first round pick on the table is true, then I don't see why they would do this. You can say, "Freddy is cheaper" all day long, but a 1st round pick clears 4.5M cap and 3.5M salary this year. Freddy and a second doesn't do that.

OEL OEL
I think you could probably offload Moore and Ritchie on the Coyotes to move out cap, keep Lindholm and Gra, and change the second and/or Zboril to something more enticing.
Zboril (or Lauzon, I don't know where Boston ranks those guys), Frederic, Moore, Ritchie and a 1st or something for OEL and Fischer probably makes more sense for where both teams are headed.

Bill Armstrong is a busy man
Trouba is only owed $2M this year. And 8,6,8,6,6 after that.
OEL is $4M remaining this year, then $10.5, 10.5, 10.5, 8, 5.25, 5.25
This year, probably the most important: they send out $6M obligation for Trouba (2), Smith (2.35), Hank (4.5, if he plays). After that they definitely save money.
Managing the cap this year would be extremely difficult. I think you tell the Rangers that Hank is their problem, not yours. Or at least make them retain. Without him, it saves you over a million this year, and substantially in the future even with him.
I also think if Arizona is eating Smith and/or Hank for the year, they'll want a NHL-ready guy like Howden or Gauthier included.

They have Hill at 800k on a one-way deal. Probably means he's the backup. Like I said, it's interesting, but I'm not sure they see him as a value add. More like accommodating Carolina in a way that doesn't hurt either team.
I'd rather have the rumoured first than Bean, but who knows what Armstrong is thinking. It's plausible --which is way more than can be said for most deals you see being proposed. So good work :)

Kessel's owed less than a million dollars this year and 5.1 next. Faulk makes 18M real dollars those two years. Nonstarter.
Maybe Sundquist and futures or something. Keeps the dollars close to even over the next two yrs.

The Keumper trade isn't something I would do from AZ's perspective. With the rumour there's a first on the table, I'd rather that than Bean and a third. Riemer is interesting because it's short term, low actual dollars, but I'm not sure if it dilutes the value when you already have Raanta and Hill to platoon.
... but if Armstrong really likes what he's seen of Bean, it does not seem completely crazy, either. If they're high on Bean and see he's buried, I'm sure they'd look to poach him.
