Is LA trying to compete yet

Created by: BCAPP
Team: 2020-21 Los Angeles Kings
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 20, 2020
Published: Sep. 20, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Or is this a year to use short term cap as an asset?

Also if they're not competing ASAP, they really should trade of Kopitar...

I would move Brown half retained at the deadline or next year, for someone who wants toughness in their line up. They can afford the cap hold, and Brown at under 3 mil has good value entering the playoffs

This team in two years ideally has Vilardi/Cozens/Turcotte/Akil and a tonne of top picks leading the way and a clean cap

Kopitar is good but Buffalo shouldn't do that.

Kopitar is good but Buffalo shouldn't do that.

I wanted to trade down for Buffalo to trade their high first for like a 20th, but LA doesn't have one.

I just think that there is a trade to be made there. Kopitar is exactly what Buffalo needs, and with LA being able to take a guy like Okposo back, I feel like there should be something that can be done. Not sure exactly what.

Similar argument for Winnipeg, but I think LA has to retain for Winnipeg given they have no dump to send back. I can see a situation where WPG trades Laine for a RD and futures, and some of the futures go towards a Kopitar trade...

I think you might be hurting LA with that. As much as having Kopitar 2 years ago after O Riely trade would have been awesome for buffalo we have staal now and eichels a vet, cozens is coming up, mitts could still be amazing. I dont see you getting a fair deal done.
I think you're going to want kopitar there to mentor turcotte up, plus arent you drafting byfield this year? Just be patient, 3 years from now kopitars going to be your 3rd line center and your going to have the best 2way face stomping middle in the league. While cozens will be playing for officially renamed "buffalo train wrecks".

Did you miss the Staal to Minnesota trade?
Staal is now their 2C bridge to Middlestadt or Cozens hopefully being their 2nd line center in Buffalo.
I get they'd be dumping Okposo here but they're trading two big pieces of their future (Cozens+8th) plus Montour for a $10M 2C that's 33 and a cheap RHD which is a position they're pretty set at, I just see too many valuable future pieces leaving Buffalo here, not a good move for them, Kopitar is great but adding a $10M 2C will severely take away their cap flexibility like adding Tavares did to Toronto, just not a good idea for Buffalo.

I've long thought a Kopitar to Winnipeg makes sense and have made a thread of that trade just didn't post it, in the end Kopitar doesn't waive for Winnipeg or Buffalo anyway.

Stepan is only owed $2M the rest of the season, and AZ has only him and Dvorak at center. Probably Hayton. They aren't going to pay their only pick in the top90 for the next two drafts to save $2M. He'll get dealt at the deadline with retention.

I mean it isn't going to happen but Jesus if the Kings Centers depth was: Byfield, Cozens, Turcotte, VIlardi, Kupari, Madden, Thomas, Anderson-Dollan, Lizotte, Dudas.

Didn't realize he has so little $ left, I did this under the assumption they were dumping salary

Yeah, there are only two players still owed $4M (OEL and Goligoski). Everybody else is quite cheap the rest of this year. They should be well under $70M. There's not really a way to cut much more. They need to clear a little cap, and I'm sure wouldn't mind cutting salary, but even a league minimum player replacing Stepan only saves 1.3M. I think one of the D will go to make room for Soderstrom, but I can't see trading Stepan when they have no centers ready to step in.

Rob Blake said they will compete. I guarantee he won't make any trades to compete though. He will aquire a vet LD to play with Doughty and maybe a cap dump for a 1st.
