<strong>Jokiharju</strong> 21:01 min/gm ranked 72nd among ALL nhl defensemen, when was the last time a near top pairing defenseman was traded for only a fifth.
<strong>Luukkonen</strong> was voted rookie of the month in January, had a 17-11-4 record for the season and was only 23 yo, why are you giving him away for a third, when most NHL GK are playing in the minors at his age.

and then Draft Willander in the 2nd round.</div></div>
I don’t think any of the RDs make it to 14 which is why I’m betting on Yzerman doing exactly what I’m saying. Vancouver will likely nab one of them if you let them slide and then there’s Arizona and Buffalo . No chance

Anaheim adds a 2024 fifth to fill that hole on your dance card. Matter of fact, make it a conditional fourth if Silf doesn't play 61 games.

Nor the prospects that they are ready to hand over. BUF currently has 5 former 1st rounders not even on the team, and 3 2nd rounders. BUF is loaded with both cap space and prospects.

Rosen is a top prospect, that first is unprotected with no guarantee that the Sabres make the playoffs, and UPL's upside is just as high as Swayman's imo, albeit Swayman having a bit more NHL readiness. I don't see Swayman in Boston long term, but Carlo would probably require a lot to pry out.</div></div>

Yep, also figured The cap situation makes it more possible. Carlo being under contract at a good AAV is why might Boston would probably trade someone else to make room but I like how this deal fits Buffalo’s needs and under Kevyn Adams’ criteria for building for the future.

I like Murphy as a potential partner for Power, and he has a multiyear deal in place already. I don’t know if the price is worth it, but if the Sabres get a legitimate defensive partner for Owen Power they will be well on their way to being a contender for the division, not just the playoffs. It doesn’t take a genius to see that Toronto, Tampa, and Boston will inevitably all take a step back next season due to salary cap reasons. If Buffalo gets a defense partner for Power, and adds a face-off winning penalty killer to improve the team defense, they will be a legitimate threat. The question of whether they really need to add a veteran goaltender to platoon with Levi or run with Levi and Luukkonen with an improved defense remains to be seen.

Sabres next season V4 very effective close to efficient and still economic
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Boos</b></div><div>Hmmm...curious as to why? There's a top-nine upgrade at forward (Killorn) and a top-four upgrade on defense (Cole,) plus a very competent backup goalie in Brossoit.</div></div>
For starters, Savoie wont be here. Bet the farm on him going back to the WHL.
Killorn shot 20% this season, thats double his career average. He'll be 34 years old next season and we are not the puck possession team that tampa is. Most of our offense is derived from rush based chances. Hes not the guy for that.
Second, Cole's career sample size isnt great. hes having an exceptional year with TB this year, just this year. Any other 3-year sample for him looks very mediocre. Additionally, while he has spent SOME time at RHD, he is primarily an LHD and far better at it than the right side. He too has the same make up Killorn does in the sense that, Tampa's system is juicing his numbers, whereas playing for the Sabres would hurt them.
Finally, even if you arent willing to accept the two points above, Laurent Brossoit is constantly on the injured reserve list. Its a lot to bet on him being the consistent 1a/1b that Levi needs. Fwiw, I dont believe any part of your ACGM was bad or unrealistic, I just dont think it outpaces enough teams to comfortably say they make the playoffs. This is including the idea that no amount of individual regression next year from this year's players would hurt their chances.

Next Steps
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rktkt66</b></div><div>In free agency, Severson and in trade, Hanifin and Murphy. Each of them is: 30 or younger; defensive-oriented; above average size; a mobile skater that would fit Granato's system; an experienced penalty-killer; and a strong leader in the locker room. While Severson could command a $6M contract at age 28, the Sabres would pay that for such an analytically-elite player who excelled this year with a NJ team that plays much like Buffalo wants to. Hanifin would require a lot in return but is the right age to fit in with the core the Sabres are building around. Murphy likely won't cost as much to trade for and also has a reasonable cap hit locked in for 3 more years plus personal familiarity with Granato for 1-1/2 seasons in Chicago.</div></div>
Severson would be great but i think your paying him mire than 6, if NJ lets him hit ufa he'll be the premier right dman. You dont think he'll make seth jones money from a desperate team? Murphy,s a great option but nothing to say chicago is trading him. They'll need something to build around and its pretty bare bones there i think he'll cost more than you think. Probably a 1st and top prospect at least. Hanifin has a no move and i doubt calgary is even interested in moving him as he heads into his best years. Tanev seems like a more likely option out of calgary but nmc again.
I'd like all those guys too but you might.wanna get ready for more of a petry option. I'd like ekholm but i imagine 1. he probably wasnt coming here, 2. Probably cost the whole farm.
My dream guy tho would be adam larson

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Skyraider112</b></div><div>I would take that all day... Petry is still a good player and would pair well with Power. The cap hit isn't an issue. Getting two 2nds and moving a guy we have no room for on F? Big W</div></div>
If he wasn't 36 already... He could become dead weigth almost immediately, given lack of motivation after yet another trade, treated like cap dump this time.
And this would add 6,75 mil to 2024-25 season cap, for 38 yrs player.
Olofsson himself, with retention, can get this 2nd round pick easily. I am adding retention because cap is not an issue for 23/24, and could get better pick.
As for RHD, Sabres need partner for Power for years, not short term solution.
