Oloffson, Malkin, and Hall line? It will score 100 goals, and allow 150.

I think you forgot to note at the top that you're expecting Ron Hextall to take over as GM in Buffalo before that trade happens. It's the only conceivable explanation I can think of why you would suggest such a lopsided, irrational trade that completely favors the Penguins and sends Buffalo 2-3 steps back in their rebuild.

Boston trade is definitely interesting. But the Buffalo one is bad for both sides

If Buffalo wanted to make a run next year, this is actually a good trade.
Carter wins nearly 60% of his FO, he can PK, will hit and provide that veteran leadership needed for a young team.
DeSmith is older than Luukkonen but as a back up has a 0.912 SV% over a 134 NHL career.
Granlund at half price also provides veteran leadership and is only one year removed from a 64 pt season.
Carter and DeSmith only have one year remaining on their contracts and Buffalo moves from 87th OA to 23 OA while collecting 121st OA pick.
@Stadel you constantly view Luukkonen as a bust so DeSmith would be a one year upgrade and a back stop for Levi.
If Carter and Granlund can come close to repeating their 2021-2022 output, they will be valuable trading chips at the TDL while Savoie and Kulich fill their skates for the last 20 games.
Four picks among the top 45 in a deep draft will restock the prospect pool after the call ups.
Or Buffalo could trade PHI and their own 2023 second round picks to move up to 28th OA and repeat last year and have 3 first round picks (13th, 23rd and 28th v 9th, 16th and 28th of last year).
Well as usual, that is my rose coloured glass look at the future.

How about instead of Luukkonen you accept Comrie in return for DeSmith. Carter could work as a 4th line center, but Granlund is a complete mess. Of course I wouldn’t offer up anything of actual value for the two of them. Taking the money is your return mostly. So Comrie and a 5th for DeSmith and Carter could work. But I’m guessing Pittsburgh fans don’t like that.

I see what you are saying but I dont think there's anything positive about acquiring Carter or Granlund. And Pens shouldn't be trading away 1sts at this point. If we do it's gotta be for an insane player, but I dont think we should

Buffalo isn't a dumping ground for mediocre players and poor contracts. If Jeff Carter waives I'd do him and a 2nd for Olofsson. If you want UPL, I'd be asking for a prospect in return. 0 interest in Granlund or DeSmith.

I would much rather have Petry at 6.25mil for a couple years than Dumba at 8.125
