This trade doesn’t really serve either team. Buffalo loses out on a young center after a break out season, and Colorado is moving on a defender they probably don’t wanna move. Girard doesn’t exactly fill the need that Buffalo has, and they can find a defender who fits their needs better in free agency without giving up anything.

Mittelstadt is legitimately good. I don’t think Girard is all that good he’s small gets outmuscled isn’t good defensively he’s a slightly better Jacob Bryson.

Avs fans opinions on Girard aside, trading Mittelstadt post breakout year for another LD whose analytics are at best iffy is sort of a lateral move.

I like both Mayfield and Clifton. Clifton isn't the biggest guy but he's vicious, had over 200 hits this year. I would be happy with either. Still think Joker can be a good 3RD, just needs to find some consistency, he looks fantastic some games and then looks lost for 5. If they could keep him to 15-17mins a night I think he would be perfect right know, still young and maybe his game grows to that 22min a night guy.

Could see Jost getting that Rousek contract, Rousek probably gets less that a Mill. If I am throwing that much at a goalie, might as well get Valarmov or Anderson. And like the Clifton signing, but think you are off a bit in both years and Avv. And Quinn should be where Greenway is and Kulich should be on Savoie's wing and Greenway on the 4th line. And in No way should Bryson ever hit the ice for the Sabres again.</div></div> <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Finn2016</b></div><div>No Bryson saves us about .25 goals a game. Agree on goalies and would prefer Mayfield to Clifton. Thoughts?</div></div> First, let's put our trust in Granato, he thinks Jokiharju (21 min/gm) is significantly better than Lyubushkin (14 min/gm).
Second, Let's get them both, Clifton 6 years and Mayfield 2 years at $3,500,000.
That may be over pays but they would upgrade the defense significantly.
Mayfield as Power's partner would propel Owen's performance into the stratosphere just as Samuelsson has done for Dahlin.
Casey sure looked good on the top line and Tage's performance did not suffer playing along side of Dylan.
In addition to the defense, sign Acciari to have at least one player who can win faceoffs and put Olofsson on the fourth line playing with two solid defensive forwards.

TB has run 22 for the last couple years par for the course with them.
10 offer sheets since 98 25 years they aren't realistic. 2 have been successful one literally had GMs trying to fight physically fight each other. Granted they were Brian Burke and Kevin Lowe but still.

You know Adams sits on a horse shoe, how else could Juri Kulich have fallen to 28th OA.
IMO they will continue to draft the best player available and wait until the second round to get a defenseman.
Simashev appears to be a good option but unlikely to be available in the second round (but there is that horse shoe affect).
Reinbacher could be there for their first round pick and he is playing with R2 now, he 6', is competing against men and doing very well.
Axel Sandin Pellikka may also be available at pick 12, since he is only 5'9" he would not be my first choice.
Tom Willander another big body forward who could play the fourth line if he cannot break into the top 6.
6'2" RHD Dylan MacKinnon would be an excellent choice with the pick we got from LAK.
Have to put my faith in Jerry Forton and Jerahmiah Crowe as they wanted to move up to Kulich.

It's all about finding space for Oloffson's wicked slapshot. Without that space it's three meaningless goals during a 24-game stretch of a playoff push followed by a five-game stint in the press box. With that space he's blasting unstoppable one-timers from the circle. He's too slow to create space for himself and doesn't like to go to the dirty areas so teams know how to neutralize him and they don't even need to do that much as he's a perimeter player to begin with.

He is a 200 foot player who has only 14 fewer pts this year than Colton has over his past two seasons.
This is a terrible trade for Buffalo even one for one much less adding a pick.
As a team TB is +29 and Buffalo is -4 yet 26 yo Colton is -8 v 24 yo Casey is -10.
Adams would be crazy to offer this and Brisebois would laugh all the way to the bank and accept this deal.

What a dumpster fire - EDITED
Despite his lack of size, I like Garland for his tenacity and creativity but, in terms of the team's need for more "pests" like him, they have Savoie coming who's calling card is being a tenacious, pest-like forechecker with more offensive ability. And Skinner doesn't get enough credit for how consistently he agitates and annoys the other team's players during games.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TMLBRIAN</b></div><div>Based on the team you created here, I still dislike the dcorp and some of your depth forwards. Kravtsov on 4th line isn't a great fit in my mind. But I love the Motte add though (too much cap though). Get a guy like ZAR for that left wing 4th line. Let Kravtzov, Hoglander and Pod fight for 2 of the top 9 spots. Loser gets traded or sent to the AHL.
Dcorp would get smacked also. I like the Hronek add but the right and left are still too weak in my mind.
Missing 1 2nd pair LD and 1 top pair RD. If they got those, everyone else starts falling into their correct place.
This team isn't better than this years team in my mind. Bubble team at best.</div></div>
Kravtsov on the 4th line is definitely not written in pen, but I think someone like ZAR would be a tough get. If anything, Watson could take the 4LW spot and create a pretty gritty 4th line with Motte and Aman/Joshua. Definitely not the best line you could think of, but given Vancouver's current state I think it is an upgrade.
Defense is still an issue for sure, but that's an issue that cannot be fixed in one off season. The type of defensemen they need do not come cheap, and Vancouver lacks the assets to acquire them. With the OEL contract they can't make the splash in FA needed to entice a big name to their team, nor do they have the assets to acquire a stellar defenseman. I did toy with the idea of a Raty for Zadorov + picks trade, but I couldn't mentally justify it in the event Domi or Compher regress, and the fact that Zadorov is expiring next year. Once Myers contract expires in 2024-25 they may be able to get a bigger fish though.
I disagree that it isn't a better team than this year. Vancouver's bottom-6 has been abysmal this year and a revolving door of folks from Abbotsford (6 of the 14 forwards listed on capfriendly's Vancouver team page are the unwanted discards from other teams). The goalie tandem alone is light years improved from the Martin-Delia pairing they had most of the season, not to mention the improved centre depth.
Injuries have really plagued Vancouver though, so really any lineup on paper for next year will instantly beat the lineups actually rolled out by the team.

Exactly what I just said in another thread . . . Reinbacher still available at #13 is Buffalo's wet dream.
Given their depth in quality forward prospects (Peterka, Quinn, Ostlund, Rosen, Savoie, et al.), as good as Wood is, the Sabres would probably prefer Sandin Pellikka there if Reinbacher goes to Vancouver or Detroit.
And if this is the way that the draft goes, I think that the Kings will be talking to Nashville about the Edmonton pick and St. Louis about one of their late picks. There are some interesting LhDs still on the table in this scenario (and most scenarios that I've seen).
