Best Case Scenario
Why would Carolina ever make that Pesce trade? Makes them worse on defence, and their forward prospect pool really doesn't need a guy like Bourgault in it. Not often is it that a team makes the conference finals and decides they need to make themselves worse. Also, you're undervaluing Konecny quite a lot. If you're getting Philly to retain half of his contract, I'd imagine the return would have to be Broberg + Yamamoto + 2024 1st. Maybe even need to attach another mid-round pick.

no chance any team is paying that. broberg + holloway is already too much for a rental

Larkin supposedly getting traded this year... I imagine a move like that comes towards the trade deadline... any contending team that would trade for larkin is getting him as a rental and while I can see the wings getting a bit more for him, its pretty close.

what i would pay
Yeah honestly if we're trying to give up significant assets for a player it should be for Chychrun.
And Kane would cost a lot more than this.

Preds
The barrie for granlund swap is very interesting, but I can't see the oilers taking on another forward making 5 million because their cap situation is very... fragile. Otherwise pretty interesting... I feel like Ekholm definitely gets a better return than that in a trade though.

Making the Oilers a Top 3 Team in the NHL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ichbinian</b></div><div>I'd rather have a hard nosed grinder like Kassian for the playoff run, not a weak Dylan Strome.</div></div>
NHL becoming much less about grit. I could see the Oilers liking Kassian a lot as a 4th liner, but at 3.2 million he's just too much. Dylan strome solidifes Edmonton's top 9 by ensuring there's 3 lines that can all put the puck in the net. Furthermore, the whole intent of trading for Zach Sanford is to bring some good physicality back into the lineup on a much more favourable contract. Sanford can provide just as much as Kassian in terms of physicality.

I could've sworn he did, but that's my bad I guess. But strome really doesn't have much value. The only season he produced was playing with Kane and DeBrincat, and he's proven he cannot produce without elite talent surrounding him. 30-40 point players aren't worth a ton, but I definitely could be undervaluing strome or overvaluing kassian.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sensonfire</b></div><div>Ottawa is not giving up Sanford and a pick for a middling prospect and a guy we wouldn't claim off waivers.
Try again.</div></div>
Sanford really strikes me as a rental for Ottawa, and I could easily see a scenario in which they decide they'd rather fill his role with a young forward next season and they figure picking up a mid-tier prospect for him is a win.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CJets</b></div><div>In order to be a top 3 team, don’t you need to have an actual elite goalie?</div></div>
I'd actually argue that you don't. You need a goalie you can trust as a starter and you need to hope they bring the best of the best in playoffs. Obviously a few teams are lucky, but most great teams will have a middle of the pack starter. Mike Smith can potentially provide this, and maybe stuart skinner in the future.

Honestly, I get what you're saying I might have undervalued Kubalik by a bit. Maybe Edmonton sends a 1st and 2nd there or throws in a prospect. However, Kubalik has declined steadily since his rookie year, and has struggled immensely this season. I'm not saying the Hawks should trade him, but I'm saying I could see it happening. With Kane and Toews both way past their prime, I think they should try to get some draft picks in the next two drafts and get a solid pool built up. Management may realize this and trade off players with moveable contracts they are willing to trade. The emergence of Brandon Hagel makes Kubalik less vital to the team and I could see him being traded for the right price.

Fixing the Oilers
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>Trading Sharangovich probably depends on how Holtz develops. If we did, It would be for younger RD than Barrie.</div></div>
To me, Barrie almost serves as a stop gap until Ty Smith can fully assume his role as a mostly offensive middle pairing d-man. The Devils blue line really could use better breakout passes and a solid transitional defender provides that. I'd say the devils are definitely looking to start improving quickly and competing for the cup, and Barrie definitely puts them closer to winning and further from drafting 1st overall again. You can't keep waiting on young players to come up forever, and at some point you end up bringing in older players. Barrie is only 30, and should provide solid play for the remainder of his contract and hopefully a few years afterwards. Also, Subban probably walks this offseason, and barrie takes the pressure off of finding a replacement.

Fixing the Oilers
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>datmonkey91</b></div><div>I like most of the trades but I'm not too sold on varlamov. Koskinen has been fine this year and hopefully with smith coming back soon, he'd take the ease off of koskinen a little. Plus taking on the varlamov contract doesn't help the oilers next season as they need to re-sign yams + pulju and they have the nurse extension kicking in too. I'd much rather run with skinner next year to give him the needed nhl experience so that he can take over or be a tandem goalie when smith is gone. Also as much as I don't like tippet's choices, the team was not built very well and the pieces he has to work with aren't the best. I'd see how the moves would improve the team before firing him.</div></div>
Can't argue with that.

there is no world in which this trade makes sense for edmonton. taro hirose is not that good and probably won't be a regular in the nhl. 25 years old and not even a point per game. Oilers have enough completely mediocre forwards.
