Gally: a waiver wire pickup, UFA to be offers no value

Engvall is not a tweener, what the **** are you talking about? He's a solid top=9 NHL player and he's become a very effective 3rd line center. Kills penalties, plays good defense. That said, he's probably the only player in this deal who has value so your overall point of the trade not working is still valid.

I love William Nylander, but I can tell you right now his value doesn't get both Gibson and Rackell. Andersen has no value right now. A .903 goalie on the final year of his deal has no value to ANH. Nylander beats the value of Rackell (younger, better player, higher producer), and probably by a lot, but not enough that they get Gibson, too. Not without major pick or prospect incentive.

.903 goalie this year, like a .906 last season, he's not "great". There are half a dozen solid goalies on the market, any of whom they could probably get for less than $5M. And if they have to pay a bit more for Grubauer they should do it.

Why would Calgary want a waiver wire and a 4th for Bennett AND retention?
Why does a team trade its number 1 netminder, and why does BUF want a UFA to be goalie and a couple of contracts? For a late 2nd rounder?
And Ekholm with 50% retained gets a late 1st and a prospect most of the Leaf base has given up on?
All in all, all of those teams will get better offers elsewhere</div></div>
Literally ask the fans of the other teams, man. I took their fan bases proposals, as I explained. I didn't come up with these, I just took the other teams fans at their word for what fair value was.
Also, Ullmark is a pending UFA (I believe). He's too good to resign with that ****show in Buffalo and the goalie market is soft for sellers. Lose him, or take on a contract, get a pick, grab a couple prospects. Seems a no-brainer for a team about to reset... again.

When you healthy scratch a guy and then he has 6 points in 24 games... Value kind of diminishes. That and he's not on a rookie min. contract anymore. That said, I didn't come up with that offer, I looked through some CGY fan-made ACGM's and saw similar offers (the ones that weren't like... Nylander for Bennett and a 2nd) so I picked the offer I liked the most.

Guy had a .909 last season, a .903 this season before tonight, he looks small in the next now. He's done. He's not a good goalie and he's definitely not a starter for a team with cup aspirations. He can play a lot of mostly average to slightly below games, I'll give you that. Not sure if Elvis is the answer based on a spotty track record of health, or if he's even available, but he's probably a better option now and into the future than Andersen is.

I don't know, man. He has had exactly one decent season since the start of the 2016-17 season. And that was .911. That's one of five seasons (including this season). At this point maybe he's just not very good. A career .906 and three of his six seasons (including this one) he has been under .900. That's just... rough. He has a .914 against Toronto and a .950 against New Jersey so maybe that's why those fan bases (going by your name and avatar I'm assuming you're a Devils fan lol) think he's better than he is.

Then you need to watch other teams. Bernier has a .910 behind a TERRIBLE Detroit Red Wings team, I'd bring him back on a 2YR, 2M. He's a competent goalie who had two good seasons in Toronto (and one bad one). He and Campbell could be very good. Grubauer has a ,917 this season. His career worst is .915. I'd take him at $4-5M over Freddy for $4-5M. The guy is a stud. Rittich has the same SV% that Freddy has (or there abouts), and better then Reimer (by .01 lol).

Nylander
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mediumyeet</b></div><div>Their offense is one of the best in the league with or without nylander. He is a bit of a perimeter player that isn’t strong defensively or along the wall but he makes up for a lot of that with offensive ability. But the leafs have some of the best forwards in the league so that offensive ability isn’t quite as important as it would be if they didn’t have Matthews Tavares and Marner. Schmidt is a mobile puck moving defenseman that can play match up minutes and is great in transition. That creates more team speed for Toronto and gives them arguably one of the best d cores in the league creating an extremely well balanced team.
Edit: they also add a goalie that has excelled at every level he’s played at. He is undersized but still a very strong goalie prospect that probably has a ceiling of a mid tier starter but could be a good backup or tandem goalie. And they get a draft pick out of it</div></div>
The perimeter player b.s. has found its way to other teams fans, too... Interesting. Let's get this out of the way, the guy had more goals then anyone from in close last season, which is where he's scoring his goals this season, too. A season where he's on-pace for a 30 goal campaign over 82 games. Some talking head (would it surprise anyone if it was Dave Poulin, the clown?) in the media said it last season, all of the stats (Nylander's shot charts and goal charts for example) proved it wrong, but it caught on because Toronto has fans who fall asleep watching the first period then latch onto every dumb thing that gets said on Overdrive or Leafs Lunch or whatever. He has some compete issues now and again, his defense is fine for a winger but could be better, overall he's a very good player who has more to give. So, let's just stop the perimeter player garbage and move on. He literally plays on the wing. The perimeter is where he's supposed to be most of the time.
Now, I like Schmidt. A lot. I wanted Toronto to try and grab him when he was in Washington and enjoyed watching him bloom into a stud on Vegas. He was like 25 at the time. He'll be 30 this off-season, coming off a not-so-great year in Vancouver (so far)-- and you can say he's been their 2nd best D, Vancouver isn't very good so that isn't really selling me. His offensive numbers are fine though I think slightly down, his possession numbers are down, and every game I've watched with him I've thought "what the hell happened to Nate Schmidt?". Now he's good in other stats analytics and he still has his moments, so I'm going to call it a mixed bag, he hasn't been a disaster at least, but he's making 6M for four more years. That's 30-34 year old seasons. I just don't think a prime-age scoring winger is proper value for an ageing defenseman who might be just a T-4 guy right now. Now, that might be why you added a 2nd and a prospect goalie so I guess it depends on how high you are on DePietro and I'm lukewarm.
If I knew Schmidt was going to get back his top level VGK form the next four seasons I could be convinced but I'm not there.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sens65</b></div><div>The leafs wouldn't be able to afford anyone better than him, assuming they could convince them to sign.</div></div>
You're saying the Leafs couldn't sign or trade for a goalie better than Freddy with that 5M this ACGM gives him?
Last Two Off-Seasons
Jacob Markstrom - $6M (.907)
Braden Holtby - $4.3M (.893)
Semyon Varlamov - $5M (.929)
Petr Mrazek - $3.125M (.955 in 3 games)
Robin Lehner - $5M (.890 but only 5 games)
Next off-season sees Rask, Rinne, Raanta, Reimer, Grubauer, Mrazek, Rittich, and Bernier all hit the market and I'd sign any one of them to run a tandem with Campbell. Most of which should be less than the 5M Freddy was given in this ACGM.

foligno
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jksc0831</b></div><div>What you said perfectly exemplifies why these trades need to happen. First, we've gotten very few injuries to our RD so far. In the playoffs you'll need the extra Dman in case of injuries if you want to be a cup contender, unless you think Liljegren or Dermott at RD is a good fit when one of Brodie/Holl/Bogo go down. Secondly, you can put Foligno with the Tavares line while Simmonds is injured, which would make Foligno cheaper than Kerfoot. The Tavares line lacks a grinder to go get the puck like Hyman. Finally, the focus of all this is on clearing cap space (to sign Hyman) and loading up for a shot at the cup. The only contracts you can move to clear cap space for next year are Kerfoot, Mikheyev, and Engvall. Obviously, if you trade them, you also can't be getting anything other than an expiring contract back, or one you can put in the AHL without penalty. All the players that I'm targeting fulfill that criteria to ensure maximum cap space for signing our FAs next year.</div></div>
You don't trade for Savard to bench him, and Bogo/Dermott/Holl have played too good to be benched. It's silly to trade that much for a guy you're playing as your 7. They have other guys who can and have stepped in when injuries happened. And, actually, Dermott prefers RD, I think he'd do fine there. As Brodie proves every game, you don't HAVE to be right handed, that was just Babcock's thing.
Foligno has been terrible this season. I wouldn't touch him, nevermind giving up Engvall, Kerfoot, AND a 1st for him. It's a no from me.
