So, you're saying a fan base on this site values their one of their players higher than other people value him?
Say it ain't so!

overated yet somehow everyone wants to trade for him.
when a young guy gets a down year, he suddenly becomes overated and apparently you should be willing to trade him for a late first. People were saying the same thing about nylander and drai the year after they signed their contract too.

Oh joy, nothing pieces and a stalled prospect, and a late pick, however could Verbeek say no?
Quite easily, actually. If Zegras was available for spare parts, he would have been traded over the summer.

No it can't, because if NJ makes the ECF, the 24 1st belongs to San Jose. So no.

CapFriendly Delusional Fanbases
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMBL</b></div><div>From my experience on here, pretty much every rebuilding team fanbase, during their rebuild ends up being in the LW position, especially if the rebuild is/expected to be lengthy. Often they are expecting teams' top prospects in trades, a 1st+ in every cap dump situation (regardless of the situation/reason for a team to maybe want to dump a play), they will never want to trade for a superstar player in any circumstance, "We don't want him, but if we do we'll just sign him in free agency", and some fans seemingly don't want the rebuild to end (unless they draft their way out of the rebuild), so if their GM starts making moves to try ending the rebuild they start to turn on him.</div></div>

Now who will be there future defenseman
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMBL</b></div><div>In addition to what was said, they will likely have the opportunity to draft a highly touted RHD in the upcoming draft that is a TWD.</div></div>
This is a great point. Prior to the trade the Ducks were really in a spot where they should draft a winger above all else. This trade removes that necessity and will allow them to draft BPA (as you always should in the NHL).
As to the original question, Drysdale became available because of how much Luneau has impressed Verbeek. I said it in a conversation over the summer with someone on here about Zellweger not being a prototypical "Verbeek defenseman". He though that would eventually lead to Zellweger getting traded. My reply was all those same things could be said about Drysdale. Smaller guy, Bob Murray draft pick and so on.
Not a big shocker that this trade had a guy 5'11" going out of Anaheim and one that is 6'3" coming in.

We have one of if not the most stacked defensive prospect pools in the league, that’s why Jamie was moved

Mintyukov most likely, but they have so many good young D so it could be someone else too.

This draft is supposed to have some very good RHD available in Verbeek's preferred flavor, so I assume that's where our lottery pick gets used.
After that, make a big splash in free agency for another Florida boy in Reinhart me thinks.

I have a hard time believing that. Verbeek gave up next year's second, he needs to make sure it's not pick #33 next year. Unless someone pulls out Jeannot money I think he stays. Middle 6 needs scoring too.

If Tkachuk had signed in Toronto, he might have been had for less than 11.5M due to timing in terms of cap and the fact that he signed an extension as an RFA, but it probably wouldn't have been much less, maybe 1M at most.</div></div>
Location can make a difference too, but timing as well. Great point.

Why would Lankinen have any value? He's played well in 1 of his 4 seasons, hasn't been playing well this season and is an expiring UFA. Hell, Martin Jones has been a better option than Lankinen so far on less than half the cap hit. If the Leafs wanted to dump Samsonov, they could probably do it for the 3rd given the price of dumping expiring contracts at deadlines in the past and they wouldn't have to move out the prospect or take back the 2 mil in bad cap.

I just don't see the advantage of having Ferraro over Timmins. Timmins is playing well at a necessary position RHD...Just keep McCabe at left side and save 2.1m in cap.
Is Dumba worth that contact now?

I don’t know about this trade.
But why would the Leafs trade away their young players?
Why can’t they trade a draft pick for Mario Ferraro?
Would that make sense?

I wouldn't give up Timmins, Liljegren or Niemela unless we are getting a long term solution.
