Lol georgiev
All I'm going to say is I just knew it would be Dutchy (really should have taken a flutter on that one) and tbf I think the earlier goal probably should have stood. Avs got lucky for once and failed to capitalise on it. Better team overall in the series won and it showed they were missing Landy big time as they lacked that top line wrecking ball in the corners and while Rants tried admirably at times that's just not his job. Also fair play to Georgie turning things around.

This year was their retooling year. They had 5 mil in cap carryover penalties and made the 2nd round. They have over 20 million in cap and will get even more if they trade Ullmark. The oldest of their core pieces is Marchand, and beyond that it's Lindholm at 30. I would say they are far from needing to rebuild and are closer to actually contending if they spend wisely this offseason. That being said I agree that Drai might not be the best target for them atm based on acquisition cost and eventual cap hit

I'd do one for one. I'd personally like to hold onto Scotty P but if it's a scenario where the Canes say no deal UNLESS Scotty P is added, then I'd still take it. Assuming a Necas extension falls in line with the Thomas/Kyrou contracts

A serious conversation is needed about this team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMBL</b></div><div>Since McDavid, none of the skater prospects have panned out/made much of an impact except Bouchard.</div></div>
I don't think there's enough noise made about this among Oilers fans. I think failing to give Lavoie any sort of chance at playing with top-6 talent this year and now not even having him among the black aces (despite Bourgault getting both) is a missed opportunity. I think the unwillingness to even try Broberg alongside Nurse while that pairing has struggled is another example and in past years there've been other examples. While veteran players are a very valuable and stabilising asset, team's also need the energy & unpredictability brought by young players.
The new management team needs to correct this in order for McDavid and Draisaitl to see a future on this team. Sure, they should want to push for a Cup but if the team around them is crumbling without any reinforcements on the horizon, do you really think they'll be willing to commit to re-signing with the team?

A Marner-less Future
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMBL</b></div><div>I like this roster better than the other one.
Instead of NSH retaining on Schenn, just pay less for Montour and Zadorov. No reason to pay Montour more than Rielly, something like 6.75-7.5Mx7(6) should get it done. The Leafs should try to limit it to 6.75-7M, and if they can get away with 6-years that would be better. Zadorov is also likely getting too much, something in the 5s should be sufficient on a 5 or 6-year deal. Bertuzzi would also need term (5 to 6 years). I could see the Leafs offer Domi a 7-year deal if that gets the cap hit down to mid-to-low 3s, otherwise, he gets 4 or 5 years probably.
Don't see them sticking Minten on the 4th line, at least not as the C. If he's not good enough for the 3rd line, he's probably not playing im the NHL. Probably need to keep Kampf, get retention on Saros to make it work.
I think they would do this for the defense:
Rielly - Schenn
Zadorov - Montour
Benoit - McCabe / Zadorov - McCabe (when needed if they are better)
I will say that they Leafs might want to take their time a bit with building their defense. So, maybe not committing the big dollars to a guy like Montour, especially since there could be better option next year via trade/ufa. Signing Lindholm instead might be a better option, since that would secure the 2C spot and strengthening the C-depth (wouldn't need Kampf). They could maybe bringing back Edmundson for a 2-years and play the two best of Benoit/Edmundson/Timmins or as the occasion requires.
Bertuzzi - Matthews - Domi
Knies-Lindholm-Nylander
Cowan-Tavares-McMann
Dewar-Holmberg-Carrick
Rielly - Schenn
Zadorov - McCabe
Edmundson - Timmins
Benoit</div></div>
Personally I couldn't stomach a dcore that bad again. It's Treliving so I'm assuming based on his past teams that he would look at signing Lindholm. He may look into a 2C trade when the Tavares contract is up, but for now I want to see a higher investment into the backend. The goalie situation has always been pretty dog**** for Toronto, but Saros has a pretty good track record, and with an improved D-Core it could make the Marner for Saros trade look better. I would consider resigning Lily and looking to get Evangeslista instead of Schenn, especially if Brad gets Zadorov.

Saros is worth at least 2 1st (10 OV pick), this would be selling him at 25% off, could be worse. So, from a value perspective, it's not that bad. That being said, the Leafs have bigger needs, would be foolish imo to deal him for a goalie, unless of course they could use the savings to add a top 6F like Lindholm (only cap piece they should take is Saros and maybe an ELC/RFA). They already have enough to add a top 4D, so if they get that done, might be worth it. I do think they need a second top-4 D more than a starting goalie though.</div></div>
They need a TOP 1-2 D

just not interested in spending a first on a goalie. plus i think the rout they are going to go is a woll tandem. if woll is healthy he is a starting goalie

Markstrom trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>EvanW711</b></div><div>yeah I'd imagine it only happens if NJ cant get a deal done for Ullmark or Saros</div></div>
I think the whole goalie carousel moves after the draft. Bruins will want to sell Ullmark with extension on the table (and will want Swayman extension done). Nashville probably wants same with Saros (or maybe extend him themselves). Markstrom has a big bonus July 1st. It all points to the dominoes falling in July…so Devils 2025 1st is probably the pick that ultimately gets moved for a goalie.
The caveat is that (according to Michael Russo) Minnesota may use Gustavsson to move up in 2024 draft. So they could have first-mover advantage.
We shall see…will be interesting summer.

According to David Pagnotta
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMBL</b></div><div>Without the extension, it's still pretty fair. Saros is a pending UFA and I would say that goalies aren't worth the same as their forward or defensive counterparts, even if it's a winger or LHD. Would NSH want to give a whole 1st (-Jarnkrok's 3rd/4th value)? Maybe not, I would expect that they would ask for Minten instead of Jarnkrok. I don't think there's much difference in value between Fabbro and Liljegren.
I agree with Just_A_Guess, I don't think NSH would want to give Saros, and it would probably be Askarov+ another piece (someone like Tomasino that could be a roster player) instead. Do the Leafs want Saros? Maybe. Treliving did say they don't want to have the 2nd best goalie in the series when asked about extending Samsonov, but considering that Woll could be that guy for them if healthy and Askarov's high potential, I think they would spend the new found cap to fix their defense.</div></div>
I think NSH would be willing to spend in order to get a superstar or game breaking kind of player, I just don't know if Marner is that player for them. I won't say he can't be that player, but it would just depend on the cost. The big thing for NSH, if they were to give up Saros, is that they wouldn't want to give up much more than that as part of this deal, and that is more due to how much they value Saros. I think you are right that goalies are likely evaluated as lower than forwards and defenseman, but that is because a goalie can't really win you the game, they can either 1. Keep you from losing it or 2. Help you "win more" (e.g. bigger score discrepancies). That said, goalies at Saros's caliber can "win" you games just by continuing to give the offense time to score, and for TOR's case, that isn't exactly difficult.
But, if TOR is not interested in Saros, what does it cost to get Marner? For him I'd be willing to spend a number of assests for him. The only 3 prospects in my mind that are currently untouchable for Marner would be L'Heuruex, Svechkov, and Molendyk. Either of the 1st's NSH has for 2025 and some of the top prospects NSH has like Tomasino, or defenseman like Ufko I'd be open to moving. I wouldn't feel good about giving up Ufko, but I would consider him eligible from NSH in a deal that brings in someone like Marner, and NSH can draft for more RD's in the upcoming draft with their picks.
If the ask is Askarov, then I can't imagine that NSH would be very receptive to it. They aren't going to not consider it, but I'd rather try free agency before moving Askarov. The big reason for that, and with the idea of acquiring Marner is that NSH needs centers more than anything now, and NSH has an over abundance of RW's in system right now, so moving the goalie of the future for a piece to win now, when the team isn't exactly built to win now is really risky and would require a lot re-prioritization on NSH's end to make that happen.

Leafs Rumours
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMBL</b></div><div>Not likely that Treliving pays Matt Roy 6.25M. Something in the 4.25-5Mx4 range is more reasonable, same for DeMelo. Bertuzzi would need at least 4-years probably (5.75MX3 is under 20M). I think he was looking for 6-6.5Mx6 last year, so I would imagine for him to sign, he'll need a 25-30M contract this year. He might take the deal that you proposed if he thinks he can get a bigger payday at 32.</div></div>
Fair enough, thanks for the feedback I’ll take it into consideration for the future!!

If Marner gets traded it won't be until after his bonus is paid so any 2024 picks are out of the question. Also don't see Nashville using their last retention slot on another multi year contract.
Zadorov, Montour, and Domi will surely want more term than that
