I’m stealing this idea for tomorrow but it’s next years 3rd but im adding this years 5th to compensate

Leafs would save a little in cap but Lankinen hasn't been better than Samsonov.

How does this help Toronto?

Save 2.2m in cap, get an equal if not better quality backup. Lankinen has been solid this season. His stats have just suffered due to the defense in front of him (mostly in the early season)

As a Saros fantasy holder I believe you when I say the defense in Nashville has been trash. Maybe I misjudged the difference between Lankinen and Samsonov.

How does this help Toronto? A bit of cap savings. But a 3rd + prospect for another not so great goalie?

Throw Samsonov in early-season Nashville and he’d have an .850 or less.

The Preds don’t need an enforcer IMO. You’ve still got Lauzon, Smith and McCarron here.

Anaheim can't trade Johnston without offering him back to the Islanders first for free, and frankly, Verberk likes him better than a late pick.

Why would Lankinen have any value? He's played well in 1 of his 4 seasons, hasn't been playing well this season and is an expiring UFA. Hell, Martin Jones has been a better option than Lankinen so far on less than half the cap hit. If the Leafs wanted to dump Samsonov, they could probably do it for the 3rd given the price of dumping expiring contracts at deadlines in the past and they wouldn't have to move out the prospect or take back the 2 mil in bad cap.

Still doesn't help the Leafs. They need help on defense, not in the net. Woll has been solid and Jones has been great in the three games that he has played. If the Leafs want to move Samsonov for cap, then it should be in a trade for a defender.

It’s not exactly a move I’d love to make, but I see them adding some sort of physical depth as a 13th forward. Plus, Smith gets the crap beat out of him whenever he fights, Johnston doesn’t. Smith has been so good tho. Makes me doubt we need to bring in another 4th line guy. Don’t want to mess up the chemistry between him and McCarron

Don’t know what planet you’re on saying all that about Lankinen. He’s been solid. Use the TOR game as proof. He was the sole reason NSH was even in the game whatsoever. His stats just got mauled by our early season defense

dont see NASH trading w AZ who they are fighting for wild card, and dont see AZ giving 2nd and 3rd for fabbro

'It's true because I say so' isn't a very strong stance to be taking. If he was strong in the eye test, there would be something .... anything .... you could point at to say it's true and not just bias.

Stats don’t do him justice, and I don’t know how to sort out stats after certain dates (because that’s what I’d need to make my point)
