Lmao. The Marner trade is an awful proposal that will never happen.

895 and maybe 1000 as a Hawk
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GM_SZK</b></div><div>I agree and apologize...that broken jaw was a poor reference. This post is just fantasy fun...what I should do in the future is just leave what Chicago gives blank...I had some say it takes a lottery pick to get those two and others say they are both 100% cap dumps. I think it is not a lot but also something.
Getting Ovi has some hockey value in that he was a great leader or maybe he would be a distraction. But as we lead up to 895 the media attention around that will be huge. So getting him is a huge money making marketing scheme.</div></div>
No need to apologize. I thought it was funny, too. haha.
And, yeah, I see the marketing perspective of it, but that Wilson extension is just awful, IMHO. Both players are in massive decline, and, even if WSH were willing to pay to move Wilson, judging from this seasons exit interviews, it doesn't sound like CHI will be in the business of taking on cap for assets any more. They have a ton of picks and prospects, and a roster that needs to start seeing incremental improvements, not saddling themselves with contracts that could make their cap situation very difficult in a couple years. Ovi is fine because he is expiring soon, but Wilson could become a real problem very quickly.

Yeah. This makes a lot of sense for CHI and DET, regardless of what some might think. DET isn't rebuilding anymore, if they need that cap space, they are gonna do what it takes. CHI's 2nd round pick will be 34th overall. That is not a bad trade off for DET to gain the cap space, maybe keep Kane around, re-sign Raymond, and create some roster space for young players/prospects to step into the NHL ranks. And there will definitely be some very intriguing prospects available with CHI's 2nd. I actually liked Husso a lot when he was with STL. It's a shame he hasn't panned out.

Chicago - 2024-25 - Off Season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Viqsi</b></div><div>Laine's our house money; he's unlikely to be traded unless we get back the sort of package one would expect for a top-line scoring winger, because we're not in any particular rush to move on so we might as well demand that much.</div></div>
Yep. Unless, CBJ's new regime proclaims that they want to do a VERY quick re-tool this summer and are desperate for that cap space, I don't see them selling low or paying to move his contract. It's not like he has an 8 year deal that is making them nervous, or something. It's two years. If he continues to disappoint, they can just retain and ship him out as a rental in 25-26 or let him walk that summer.
Personally, if I were CBJ I would be in a hurry to get them back on track and into the cup contender picture, they have too much invested in this roster to continue to let them flounder as they have, but I am not their GM and I won't presume to know what they are thinking.

I could see CHI having interest in Palmieri only if NYI are giving a huge discount or paying in order to move his cap hit. They aren't paying a 2nd for him.

However much I may personally agree with you, that isn't exactly true. From the way KD was talking, he doesn't seem so keen on handing Soderblom the backup job. And if he is going to make him fight for it, that probably means he is bringing in another goalie, because Stauber and Commesso aren't likely to be ready next year. Stauber is honestly probably just an AHL level stop gap. His games last season in the NHL were a fluke. He is ok, but he isn't THAT good.

That is nowhere near enough to acquire Luneau. I doubt PHI is willing to pay that much to move Risto. I doubt CBJ is willing to sell low on Laine, but it is probably the most reasonable of the trades you proposed. That is nowhere near enough to dump Campbell. CHI isn't signing Zboril or Foegele, especially not at those AAV's.

Chicago getting better
OTT missed the window on Thomson having trade value. Mikheyev doesn't necessarily make the hawks better, but I could see him having some success with a change of scenery. I like Sprong, but I doubt Kyle Davidson would be interested in him after his pre-season assault debacle. Regardless of the details and whether he was at fault, controversy is something CHI is trying to steer clear of. Then again, from what I remember, Donato and Sprong played great together in Seattle and I'd be very interested to see if they can re-kindle that chemistry.
I think they need the guys that they already have to take steps, not to insert more guys. What they really need is scoring up front. If they can score more, the confidence will spread to the rest of the roster, and they will win more games. Because a large portion of the games that they lose are pretty close, if they can keep one more goal out of their net and score one more than before on average, they will be in good shape. Playing as a team and having confidence will go a long way too. The gap in talent between bottom feeders and a bubble playoff teams isn't as wide as at is in other sports.
I sort of agree with <a href="/users/YeahRighttt" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@YeahRighttt</a> on bringing in D. But I do still think bringing in someone else to play with Korch could be beneficial, but if it isn't "the right guy", it isn't even worth doing. Not sure Chatfield is the right guy, but it's possible. Murphy just doesn't seem to have the offense to support Korch properly. Murphy is a shutdown Dman, and it is too late in his career to try and mold him into something else.

Playoffs one more time
CHI will most likely be interested in trading up, but I highly doubt they are selecting Jiricek. He won't go as early as a lot of public scouts have him. I think he will slide to the 2nd round. CHI has a much bigger need for top of the lineup forwards, and at that 17 to 20 range the talent pool is pretty much the same this year. I don't think they will be clamoring to move up 3 spots unless someone they REALLY like is falling in the draft order, like Moore did last year. I'd be more interested in keeping the Tampa pick and packaging some other picks and/or prospects together to get a third 1st round pick, and I would prefer it to be in the 15 - 10 or higher (unlikely) range.

lol. I guess when you put it that way... still a no. If you watch the video of that hit, it was just a freak occurence. Smith didn't do anything that any player wouldn't do. He literally was just there and Bedsy smashed his face into him. What is anyone gonna do about that? Bedsy just needs to be smarter and learn to protect himself better, that's all.

There are other ways KD could/should build this team like acquiring RFAs in need of a change of scenery or buying low on someone who underperformed in a difficult situation. This isn't it. Wilson is 30, Ovi is basically coasting to 895, there's no need to even consider this.</div></div>
Oh! Wow! I didn't even realize Wilson had an extension in place. That is awful. WSH would need to pay CHI to take it, for sure.

Yeah. I'm pretty sure if the Isles are retaining that much, they could get positive value, or at least pay a lot less to move him. Plus, retention kind of defeats the purpose of moving him in the first place. If the Isles want to create cap space and do a quick re-tool, rather than rebuild, they should be looking to move the entire cap hit.

CHI declines. If CHI is going to spend like that, it will be for a player who is at least 2 years younger. Chances are, by the time CHI is truly ready to contend, Ehlers will be a shell of his current self. I like Ehlers a lot, but this just isn't a move a rebuilding team makes.

It is for this very reason that CHI should never pay these kinds of assets for him.
With 6 years left on his deal, I doubt CHI would even take his contract if they were being paid 1st round picks to do so, let alone pay a 1st round pick plus for him. It's too big of a risk for everyone.

I don't know why people have such a hard time with this concept, but CHI is not paying for Fabbri. I know you are using Beauvillier as a comp, but that was a desperate move because CHI needed NHL players after they had a mountain of injuries pile up.
