Mikheyev back maybe
The real problem with Mikheyev's injury is that the nerves were cut in his hand. It is going to take a long time to rehabilitate the nerve to the point where he can handle the stick again.

I don't really understand why Hainsey is so lowly regarded. Sure he is not the player he used to be but gees. He plays 20 minutes a night for Ottawa (4th on the team in ice time), He is 3rd on the team in+- at +4 on a team that is -41. He kills penalties. He is still a solid bottom 3 D.
Do I want him back in Toronto at this point - no. I Like giving the Kids (Sandin and Liljegren) a chance to show what they got and improve with the experience.

There are 31 teams so there are 62 top 2 D in the league. Is Rielly in the top 62? If so then he is a top 2 D.

Next Season with Gaudreau and Barrie
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockeytor15</b></div><div>LOl yea leafs will just trade. Not giving him that much</div></div>
Barrie is a UFA on July 1 and free to sign anywhere. I doubt leafs will trade him by the deadline as they are not likely to be selling and will want Barrie for playoff run. There is only a very small chance that a team will offer a 7th round pick to get advance chance (after the playoffs are done) at signing Barrie.

Montreal Canadiens - VGK TOR PIT CAR WSH EDM
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RobbStark03</b></div><div>I guess the issue here is that it doesn't show what the Leafs could do with that cap space. They need help on RD and Ceci is awful. If they need to clear 4.5M in cap, it seems like a pretty cheap price (moving down two draft rounds in essence). I have tried to propose trade ideas involving Weber or Petry to help the Leafs out, but their fans continue to say they have no interest in either player. So maybe clearing up cap space and letting them trade for someone else is more likely. That's my thoughts at least.
Should be noted, I personally don't want Ceci, but he is a warm body and has a skillset that might help Montreal short term (Tank ;)).</div></div>
Ceci is not as bad as everyone portrays him to be. He is just overpaid. He is not 4.5 mil player. At 1.5-2 Mil he is an adequate 5-6 D. When Healthy Reilly/Barrie Muzzin/Holl and Dermott/Ceci is a good defense. Can it be better of course.

There is no reason why the Leafs would pay for someone to take Ceci. Ceci for the 5th maybe doable but the leafs have no incentive to give the 3rd along with Ceci.

Tavares will not waive the no movement clause so his trade will not happen.
Why would you trade for 3.5 million of buried dead cap space for this year and the next two years in Alzner. Keep Ceci for the 1 year and bury him in the AHL if needed - 3.5 million in dead space for this year only.

Forwards Making more than Willy Nylander
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>No... his cap hit in year one was 6.96m and it stayed that way throughout. The exaggerated cap hit in year one stops a team from saving cap.
Games played x daily cap hit = 6.96m for every season in his contract.</div></div>
If he signed the deal before the season started - his cap hit would have been 7.5 million a year. (45 million contract / 6)
If he was not a RFA and signed the deal when he did his cap hit for years 2 to 6 would have been 7.5 million per year with 4.26 million cap hit in year 1 which is the adjusted amount for the prorated season making the actual contract in real dollars 41.76 million rather than the 45 million.
But since he was a RFA mid season signing his cap hit to the team in year 1 the prorated cap hit was as you say the 6.96 million (10.2 million prorated). The 6.96 is the 41.26 actual real dollar contract / 6 years.

Cap hit is 6.9 this year but the actual average salary is 7.5. The difference is due to mid season signing that saw a 10mil cap hit the first season of the deal. Your right though it does not change your argument much. I am not arguing he is not worth it. Just pointing out that he is actually paid slightly more than a lot of the ones you have listed above.

Forwards Making more than Willy Nylander
Nylander's actual average salary is 7.5 mil per year. The cap hit is lower due to the higher first year as a result of the mid season signing. If he had signed before the season started the cap hit would have been the 7.5 mil per year.

He has NHL quality offensive skills. It is just the defensive side that is holding him back. Those skills can be learned so there is still a chance that he will be a quality NHL player. It took Kadri a few years to learn the defensive side.

Sharks Leafs Deal in Fair Blockbuster to Help Both Teams
If the leafs are going to spend 8 million on a RHD I would rather resign 28 year old Barrie for 5,6,7 years than to have 34 year old Burns for another 5 years at 8M cap hit. Let Ceci go away UFA, and trade Kapanen and Johnsson as needed for cap reasons for prospects/picks and keep the two picks in this trade to keep the prospect train going for quality Marlie call ups.

Marner Reilly and Anderson need to step it up
Marner and Tavares need Hyman. Hyman makes that line. Kapanen does not do what that line needs - dig pucks out of the corner. I think they should try Moore on the LW with Tavares and Marner. Moore is closer to a Hyman type player.
Put Kapanen back on RW with Kerfoot and Mikheyev. I think he fit in on that line a lot better.

Jeff ONeill vs Mitch Marner
Between the two, Marner is the better player however there is also a large difference in the style of game between the two era's. When O'Neill played it was a tough grinding game with a lot of allowed interference, grabbing and hooking which slowed the game down a lot. Marner would not be the same player in the O'Neill era of the game and O'Neill would not fit as well in today's game.

When I first heard that Shore was going to start instead of Spezza the first thing that popped into my mind is that he may part of a trade and the other team wanted to see how Shore does in a game. Just a thought.

There is no rush to make a trade until Hyman is ready to come back. Maybe someone else will be on LTIR by then giving more time to figure out what is the best route to go.
