<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xspyrit</b></div><div>It depends, some might overrate him but the guy is still a top line talent that you like it or not, he turned 25 y/o last season and already has 187 NHL goals...
I like Tomasino who is just a bit over 3 years younger but only has 16 goals... I mean, do you think him, L'Heureux or Schaefer are going to score that many goals before they reach 25 y/o? I bet they don't all 3 combined lol
It's your right that you don't it to happen but don't be shocked to see fans from many teams make much better offer than that and when the return in real life is also much better (although with Dorion you never know as he's a big time-ticking bomb)</div></div>
Tomasino was scoring just under a 60 point pace in the 31 games he played. Why would we move him for a player who just produced a similar season AND the 15th overall.
You told me he'd be a ppg player under the right circumstances. What are those circumstances? Nashville doesn't have a Kane-esque player to fit those circumstances.
Debrincat has yet to prove he's been worth what Ottawa traded him for OR that he can replicate a 40 goal season without Kane. It's still a big "what if". So why would Nashville do the same?
Also, I'm genuinely not going off my feelings or biases here. Trotz directly said he wants to take a few steps back before we step forward. (And develop our young players on the fly) I'm hoping not trading for Debrincat fits that quota.
I'm still also not interested in giving him 8-9m for 8 years in hopes he can shoot at a 15%+ again.
I mean... look at Bratt, Caufield, etc. Their deals are looking a lot more appealing.
EDIT: I also just really don't want to replicate another Ryjo or Duchene contract. I want to invest in our young players.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>athrin</b></div><div>When trade for Cat happened : EVERYONE OMG OTT fleeced CHI
Now : Ott is not going to get back what they trade for him or more
which one is it, did OTT fleece CHI or did they pay fair value for Cat it cannot be both
Cat shot almost 5% below his career average, most players would gladly take a "down" year of 27G and 66P
and at 27G and 66P Cat would be NSH top scorer and points getter last season.
Cats value has not changed, 1 year does not make a player</div></div>
Your interaction with a few fans on twitter over the Debrincat trade form Chicago seems to have a hold on you.
Yeah, most teams would take a "down year" because it entails the player isn't going to have as high of a trade price.
So you're telling me his 15 shooting% was unsustainable from the year prior? Then why are we moving a premium for him?
Super ironic his shooting percentage falls back to Earth once he's no longer on a line with Kane.
"and at 27G and 66P Cat would be NSH top scorer and points getter last season."
Correct. because none of our top players played a full season. A great way to tell me you only pay attention to Ottawa.
Forsberg was outproducing Cat, until he was injured.
Duchene also scored 5 less goals in 11 less games, does that make him worth 8m+?
I don't really care how much you iterate that "one year does not make a player" Cat has yet to prove he can replicate a 40 goal season without Kane. He's not as hot of a commodity from when he was on Chicago. That demand for his 40 goal season has since been lowered when you drop to 27 goals. We're not paying a dude coming off a 60 point season 8m+ and premium assets in a trade to get. Just not happening. Find another shmuck GM to overpay for him.

If Nashville moves out Saros, we're rebuilding. Cat doesn't help that. It'd make sense to trade Juice for futures.
And the last time Nashville paid a dude who scored 60 points 8m+ we got Ryan Johansen... so... I'm kinda not interested. I hope Trotz isn't either.

I’d decline the 1st Preds trade. We just don’t have any space for Boeser at all, and I’m not a fan of how much we’re paying for him there.
It shouldn’t cost the Preds that much to move up. I like the idea of 15 + Fabbro for 11

Hard pass for NSH. While Johansen's contract is bad for NSH, they aren't looking to dump it necessarily. They have plenty of cap space and don't need move it. Would rather hang onto him and Fabbro.

There's a big group of prospects that are pretty equal, once the draft moves out of the top ten. Moving up four spots isn't worth taking one of VAN's multi year cap dumps, baring Michkov falling to 11 OA.

This mock draft has Leonard and Moore take after 15 (which won’t happen, but it’s fun in theory), so I’d assume the Preds would take one of those guys with that pick

Bro, taking Murray alone eats that 24 1st. So it's a late 23 1st and a maaaybe B prospect for Hart plus 2M in retention.
In other words, not enough. Somebody else will top it comfortably.

Question for Predators fans
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Goorts</b></div><div>Being a T.O. native, I hear a lot on the talk radio about him, and Matthews is on record saying he is the best shooter on the team. His problem is that the T.O. media is too hard on him and so it gets to his head. Put him in a market where the media isn't as heavy, and he'll do just fine. And if I'm not mistaken, Nashville NEEDS scorers.
I think Lilly and Robertson would fit in just fine in the new youth movement on this team. Nashville doesn't need more draft picks... they already have more picks than available contract spots... so that's why I'm bringing in the 2 young guys rather than a late first rounder.</div></div>
TO media or not, no interest in Robertson. He could be the best shooter ever but he's been injured way too much to consider him an asset.

You would think that our centers would produce more points playing with those 2 wingers. Bratt 32 goals and 73 points and Keller 37 goals 87 points would help us be a potent offense. They are both 24 as well . I’m just playing around with the roster. Guess I did over pay for keller. Wonder if that gets you matthews</div></div>
Either that or they end up scoring less with no real centers to feed them. Idk. I wouldnt mind giving up that kind of a package for Matthews if we could extend him especially since we still have Kemell and he is looking really legit in the ahl right now. Also wouldnt mind the offersheet for bratt in a vacuum but spending 5ish 1st round picks on wingers when you consider all our top prospects are wings (minus askarov) is a bit much

If I'm Trotz, I'd pass. NSH doesn't need cap space, and if Necas repeats this past year's breakout season, he's making Forsberg money or close to it, on his next contract anyway.

Limited term? He's got 2 more years at a really reasonable hit. Goalies that good and cheap don't go for cheap. You managed to make the playoffs without nemec and a mediocre goalie, you'll manage to go further with saros...

What would an aggressive retool look like
So a quick retool is essentially going right back ro where we were at the beginning of last season?
Zucker = nino
Severson = ekholm
Barbashev = mix jeannot and granlund
Then eff tomasino, Evangelista, carrier, and novak
Put duchene back at center where he hasnt played in years because he shouldnt be played there.
Pray Ryjos Achilles injury doesn't make him a slower moving pylon than he already was.
I mean nothing about this seems to be pushing the team in a forward direction. This is more of the same bandaid approach Poile has taken over the past several years
