High risk, high reward.
I voted no. Imo the risk is just too high.

3 no votes already?
I get people probably aren't thrilled that it's a 1 way, but the guy is (IMO) good enough to play 4th line or at least fill in as an extra. There's nothing wrong with this deal (especially because 2 years increases the potential reward if he happened to break out).

Dubois definetly gets more than the original deal, but this deal is overdoing it. Jets would get a 1st and one of MTL's top young players (think Caufield). Habs fans don't like to hear it, but that's what it'll take.

1st this year CGY, 2nd this year MTL , top 5 protected 1st next year, and Barron, to start.</div></div>
That's the equivalent of almost 4x1st round picks. Barron was a 1st round pick with a stable progression and the 2nd round pick is one spot away of being a first. Not saying you're super wrong because a PLD trade would require some real good assets but this is a little steep. I think this proposal is fair with maybe the EDM 2nd round pick or the 2023 habs 2nd round pick to be added.

(SEA/WPG) - Appleton for 2023 4th round pick
I absolutely love this. Appleton is a much needed right shot, cheap and team controlled. Allows the Jets to sell their UFAs and already have 1 replacement in place next year for cheap.
Plus he was one of my favourite Jets so that's a bonus :awesome

Would have guessed a lower AAV for this short of a term, but I guess Buffalo doesn't exactly have an issue with cap space right now.

The leafs and Oilers are both have better top end players but the Jets are the deepest and the best goalie so I'm tempted to agree.
I think the key questions for the team are:
1) centres. Part 1 Can PLD be a game changer centre as he has been for months at a time in his career but not yet consistently?
2) centres part 2. How much more does Stastny have left in the tank? The Stastny of the last two years is a good 3 C and a passable if necessary 2c. But he has shown clear decline from his best days in his early to mid 20s. How much more does he have in the tank? And is he going to have to play 2c because PLD isn't doing it?
3) their D. On paper I like it. They are doing a better job of what the leafs (my team) are trying to do, which is build a deep core of good players, if no superstars. Morrissey is a first pairing defenseman, but no superstar and Pionk seems to be hitting stride at similar. They have about 4-5 more guys who are #2-5D. All that being said I liked the sound of Schmidt in Vancouver and other D that haven't panned out. They've made a lot of changes. It needs to prove it works on the ice not just on paper
Otherwise Scheifele is grossly underrated league wide. Their wingers may be best in the league. And they have a world class goalie.

He’ll no doubt not re-sign next year. He took about 1 million off of what he’s worth just to get to UFA status next year.
