I would love for Michkov, a line in 4 years with a 28 year old Keller - a 23 year old Cooley - 22 year old Michkov would probably be one of the best lines in the league for quite some time. If Michkov isn't there at 6 I can totally see Leonard at 6 and then either one of Reinbacher, Sandin Pellika, Willander and Simashev (whoever is available/who they like the most) at 12.

The other NHL owners were let holding the financial debt of operating the team when the owners.
And let's face, an arena doesn't pay for itself if fans who attend games aren't willing to put up true high ticket prices for 41 home games.
I'm not sure of any city in North America (that doesn't have a team already) that can truly support an NHL franchise. There doesn't seem to be a fan base who would attend games, pay the prices or TV revenue that justifies the 150m it costs to run a NHL franchise yearly.</div></div>
I agree that the Yotes have had their fair share of terrible owners. But Meruelo seems to be different from the past owners. Not only is he personally worth a **** ton but his development group has loads of money and he seems very committed to keeping the coyotes in Arizona. He paid close to $30 million out of his own pocket for the Annex at Mullet to bring the arena up to "nhl standards". 100% arena's don't make money themselves and Meruelo knows that, which is why he wants to build not just an arena but an entertainment district and residences along with the arena, after all he's a businessman. As for fan attendance of games, honestly it all depends on if the Coyotes are good or not. The Arizona sports market is very much driven by performance more so than most other markets, look at the DBacks and Suns both are really good teams right now and have high attendance numbers however if you look back to when they were bad they attendance numbers corresponded. If you take a look back at when the Yotes had good teams their attendance numbers were really good. Another thing that the Coyotes have going for them is the snowbird population in the Phoenix-metro area who spend the winters in Arizona, many of who are hockey fans and attend many coyotes games. The market in Arizona can work it's just a matter of doing it right.

Probably need at least an elite 1c and two legit dman, but not too far fetched, with a 6/12 from this year getting 9 games or more possibly or in next couple years as reinforcements and also a pile of picks in next few years.</div></div>
Agreed. I feel like Cooley could very well be the elite 1c, defensive prospects are for sure a weakness but I feel like that will be somewhat addressed at this years draft. If the ownership group can get a new arena built in the next 2-3 years, Arizona instantly becomes one of the premier destination from players due to quite a few factors. A young skilled team would definitely attract veterans, but players really love living in Arizona for things like the weather, golf, lower taxes and Scottsdale.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MoSeider53</b></div><div>Washington won't move the 8th overall pick to move Mantha, He's a buyout candidate.</div></div>
100% agree that he's a buyout but come draft day let's say Michkov is taken somewhere in the top 7 I feel like this deal makes a lot of sense from the Capitals perspective. Some of the players available in that 8-12 range would likely be guys like: Benson, Dvorsky, Leonard, Reinbacher, Sandin Pellika, Wood, Sale, Barlow and Willander. Depending on who you ask most of those guys are pretty interchangeable and have similar upside if they reach their potential. So yes while the Caps would be moving down 4 spots they're still likely to get a similar level player that would have at gotten at 8 and add an additional 3rd round pick plus 5.7 million of the books and wouldn't have to worry about paying out Mantha's contract over the next few years like they would if they buy him out. By all means if Michkov is there at 8 or there's a guy the caps really like at 8 and don't feel like he'd be there come 12 then they don't make the trade.

Good Core To Start the Rebuild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TML_Tika</b></div><div>What worries me about the Coyotes is that you have to surround these young prospects with some solid veternan players to help their development.......Not sure that Armstrong has figured that out yet......its hard developing when you are not competitive and getting kicked every game in the NHL.</div></div>
Personally I actually think he’s done a great job surrounding the young players with veterans players. The “veteran” guys who are still putting up good numbers quite frankly aren’t going to want to play in Arizona right now, there going to contending teams. Guys who are cap dumps, this is there one last shot or just players who need a change of scenery are the guys who Arizona is gonna get. Armstrong has been bringing in players who’ve been around the league a while and knows what it takes to make it in the league, something they can pass on to the younger guys. At the time Gostisbehere was acquired he had well over 350 games under his belt and at one point was considered one of the league’s best offensive defenseman. He proceeded to have a bounce back year, returning to his old self putting up 51 points. Not to mention his adversity with injuries in the past allows him to pass on advice/support to the younger guys that may be going through the same thing (Chychrun perhaps). Eriksson, Roussel & Beagle have 2,303 GP, over 950 points & 1 Stanley cup combined and each bring their own set of skills and knowledge. Anton Stralman has played 930 games and someone who has also suffered through his fair share of adversity throughout his career. It was reported that he really took some of the younger guys on the blue line under his wing throughout the season, especially JJ Moser (who had an impressive first season in NA). Dzingel has over 400 games played. Boyd was a guy who was drafted in 2011 and has had to fight for every game he’s played in the NHL. Riley Nash, a guy who was drafted in 07’ and played over 600 games. Ladd is now a guy with over 1000 games played, some really good seasons (points wise) & 2 Stanley Cups plus his own shares of adversity. Even though he hasn’t played a game with the yotes yet, Kassian has played over 600 games played. Yah none of these players are gonna provide loads of offense, there gonna provide leadership for these young guys we’ll starting seeing over the next few years. The goal for the next season or two is still to be really bad and acquire high drafts picks, loading up young talent. Once majority of this young core develops in juniors (or wherever outside of the nhl) then are ready to make a jump to the NHL is when you go out and add this veteran pieces who put up good point totals. The team last year was fairly competitive in most games last year (considering the makeup of the roster) plus they’re were stretches were half the AHL team was playing in the NHL because of injuries.

We more than likely won’t see that line till the very end of the season or in full next year. Cooley is going to college this year and will likely be a one and done player, joining the team at the end of the season for whatever games remain. For Guenther, he’s a 50-50 to make the team this year. He’s got all the talent to make the team but Armstrong has made it clear he’s not gonna shy away from overbaking prospects. Putting Guenther in the lackluster lineup next year may not be the best for his development. Wouldn’t be surprised if Guenther gets the 9 game “tryout” next season.

Two year rebuild
The coyotes are gonna be very bad again next year so obviously the goal is too land Bedard. But even if they don’t land the 1st overall pick, the top of 2023 draft is absolutely loaded. Michkov is going to be a high-end winger and would go first overall is most other drafts then Dvorsky & Fantilli can both be very good top line centers in the league. So not landing Bedard isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

He’s definitely worth a **** ton especially to contending teams. He’s a guy who a season ago scored 18 goals in 56 games (26 goal pace) on a relatively bad Coyotes team as a 23 year old. Plus he’s also pretty good defensively, anytime the Coyotes play Edmonton, he’s the only player that doesn’t get blown past by McJesus (most of the time). What makes him especially valueable to contending teams is his contract. He’s only making $4.6 million to 2024-25, he’s essentially getting paid as you’re 3rd or even 4th dman but plays like a #1 or #2. Plus because of his age and contract he isn’t just a rental, he’s a long term player. Chychrun for sure had a down year compared to last year but several things likely contributed to that, including: injuries (not just to him but the whole roster), new coaching staff and playing for the coyotes in general…a team with a goal differential of -106.

Trading for Chychrun doesn't make any sense for Columbus. Like you said they would likely have to give up one of their picks this year (likely the higher one) & one of (Johnson/Marchenko/Sillinger/Boqvist) + potentially something else. A reason why Chychrun has such a high price is because of his contract, he gets paid like a #3 defenseman which makes him extremely valuable to contending teams. Columbus at the moment isn't a playoff team and adding Chychrun alone won't push them over the edge. Unless Columbus feels by trading for him now, they can add some more pieces in future (whether it's through trades, free agency or prospects) that push them into playoff contention in the next year or two.

Don't think that Anaheim trade is to far off. Chychrun is a Norris caliber defenseman whose only 23 and has a very team friendly contract. While McTavish can very well be a top line center in the future, there's no guarantee where as Chychrun has already proven he can be one of the best defenseman in the league despite playing for a terrible team. The first round pick is also a crab shoot, Anaheim's pick this year will likely be a mid-round pick, while there's certainly the possibility of drafting a future nhl players there's also no guarantee that draft pick will ever even play in the NHL let alone be a productive player. Don't think Comtois would be part of the deal, the Ducks would probably want Arizona to take on someone with a bigger cap in this deal. Overall it could be a slight over payment for a Chychrun but with Armstrong who knows. Dude managed to get a 1st & Timmins for Kuemper plus Gostisbehere & a 2nd for nothing.

Coyotes are looking to get rid of Kessel. They have no first round pick this year but have 7 second round picks in the next two drafts. So giving up an aging player who won't resign next year and a second for a 20th overall pick in a crab shoot of a draft + a goalie who would likely be a replacement for Kuemper when he eventually is traded this off-season. Koskinen is definitely no Kuemper but for a team rebuilding for the next 3-4 years it's a good fit.

I think Oilers would win this trade, which means Ken Holland can't let that happen.</div></div>
From the coyotes perspective, there headed for another 3-4 year retool/rebuild. So while Kessel still has some value at the age of 33 and will more than likely leave in free agency next year, he doesn't fit in their overall plan. As for the value side I think it's relatively low for someone who was on pace for 30 goals and 63 points in 82 games simply due to the fact he will be 34 come next season and has been known to be somewhat difficult to coach. But knowing Holland he'd probably be willing to give up a first and Holloway for him.

Keller plays on the wing for the yotes, their top two centers are Dvorak & Schmaltz so this trade makes alot more sense. Especially if they end up trading Kessel...add a younger winger who can either play with those two on the top 2 lines or on the bottom 2 with a guy like Hayton centering him.
