if you think we're doing that deal under duress you're delusional. this isn't a must for us it's a want.
Boston on the other hand HAS to do something. Florida is taking the conference by the throat right now.</div></div>
oh, they were? what is your relation to don sweeney?
boston is second in the NHL in points. I don't think they really need to do anything, and center is probably second on their list.
Lindholm has sucked this year. vancouver paid up, and it didn't work. you're lying to yourself if you think they aren't taking a haircut if they move him, which they kinda have to do if they want Guentzel.

I completely agree. I don't think he's worth the 5.5 either. I'd give him a $3.5 x 4 if he wanted to stay in Toronto, but not a penny more. He hasn't added enough of what he's being paid to do......he hasn't been gritty enough, and the point production is not where it should be.I'm hoping we see what we were supposed to see come playoff time. IF not, we'll let him walk.
And I know there's no chance in hell BOS moves Poitras LOL, esp for that return.

I hear ya'. There are quite a few Calgary fans that think Lindholm will get a never before seen TDL return. I think he'll get a good return, but nothing earth shattering.

Take a risk on a former top 15 pick
I would be willing to take the risk if he was still with the capitals and they were looking to move him. But this is the second straight team that wants nothing to do with him. The risk is likely much greater than the reward

So why dont the flames just Ltir huberdeau and his 10.5 for the next 8 yrs.Theres some homer leaf fans on here but MOXNIX you win for biggest homer of all.Its pure fantasty.Vladr is the oilers best option.

Ullmark isn’t waiving his NMC for Edmonton
If Edmonton wasn’t on his NMC, this deal doesn’t value him appropriately. Edmonton isn’t getting out of Campbells contract and getting Ullmark for that package.
Boston would basically need to remove Lysell and replace DeBrusk with Geekie / have Calgary retain like 775k.
Edmonton would need to fill the difference. Period.

To take a step outside of the debate. I would say I actually agree with you in terms of Lindholm & debatable on Hanifins value. When the trade was first speculated and discussed my initial value assessment was simply 1st round pick & Lysell or Debrusk for Lindholm.
I’m a pens fan and would hate if a team that’s potential Stanley cup contenders like the Bruins (especially them actually) were to obtain the pieces they need to make a serious push. Assuming our team ever gets their **** together and actually starts showing up to even make it to the playoffs. I wouldn’t want a Boston Bruins team with Lindholm and Hanifin on the other side of the ice.
The point being I’m looking at this unbiasedly based on 3 major factors.
1) Boston focus on Lindholm as “their guy”
2) Calgarys firm stance on return value and what they feel that looks like (if it were up for discussion the deal would already be done)
3) the league wide attention a players like Lindholm & Hanifin brings and the current status of several big names and the trade rumors and failing performances around them that create a lot of competition for Boston to win the sweepstakes.
Under normal circumstances and salary conditions I would actually agree with your assessment of value

I empathize with Calgary fans. It must be disappointing to have your best players not want to resign there. His position on Poitras is idiotic, but I just assume it is driven by frustration. We’ll see how it plays out once they are traded.

Hanifin to Boston with a long term extension
The concept that Boston would trade Poitras and a number 1 for a pending free agent is a fantasy that is never going to happen. The sooner Calgary fans accept that, the sooner a realistic discussion can happen .
I could see Lohrei and a number 1 as the base of a deal for Lindholm or Hanifin. My preference is to keep the assets and pursue a player in free agency, but we’ll see how it plays out.

Hanifin to Boston with a long term extension
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MoxNix</b></div><div>Grzelcyk is only there to balance the cap. If Boston can find another team that'll trade them something for him that'd be even better, Calgary doesn't need him anyhow.
Calgary would take Lohrei instead of Poitras too.</div></div>
I don't see Boston moving Poitras out, they're badly in need of top 6 center and Poitras could become Bergeron 2.0 for them.
There alot of Lysell in trade rumors so maybe him + an D prospect and another piece that Calgary could still flip back ?
