Again my thoughts on Brady are he’s fed up, tired of losing (granted CBJ ain’t winning lol) he’s told Staois and Andy, it’s now or I want out. I also think the hiring of Green may have sped that up for BT. I don’t know if anyone who’s a fan of that hiring. Small sample size but it doesn’t look good. I agree Sens need a HC who will hold them accountable and work their asses off, but you can’t just ride these guys and expect them to buy in. It’s going to be another interesting season in Ottawa. My personal opinion, Devils really make a run for Brady. Could see CBJ doing so as well because they def have pieces.</div></div>
Devils probably a more attractive landing spot, but a CBJ team with a real coach and Johnny Gaudreau on the other wing on his line has got to be pretty enticing, too. And Columbus can put together a better offer to Ottawa.

If they’re not Russian or Italian-Canadian (or Italian-American), do we even want them?

I won't be sad to end up not top two. My strategy is to pay no attention at all to the top two or three prospects so I can't be disappointed, anyway. Last year was fun because Fantilli was totally new to me at the draft as I'd been paying all my attention to Carlsson and Smith. Bedard who? Celebrini who?

Detroit is losing 4 forwards this season to UFA. We only have 6 forwards under contract for next season, 10 if all of Raymond, Veleno, Berggren, Mazur make the roster.
This is a good deal for Detroit and should be accepted.

Marner Again
Every time a Marner trade pops up, it's a ton of fun. There's 4 options:
1. Leafs sign Marner to an extension, with trade protection. He's a Leaf until he's 35, and if they're lucky, it comes in at an AAV just over Nylander (we'll call it $12M per).
2. Leafs let Marner walk as a UFA in the offseason, simply because they either don't think he can get them over the hump, or they don't want to commit $12M to another winger.
3. Marner, for some reason (tired of Toronto media, etc.), decides to waive his NMC. Toronto trades him as a rental for one season, and gets a lesser return because of his uncertainty long-term.
4. Marner waives his NMC, and is traded to another team with an extension already in place. Toronto takes a hit on his value because he has full power to steer where he wants to go in this scenario (a la Tarasenko).
All said, Toronto is either going to be stuck with another $12M+ winger forever, or get shafted on value in a trade, or lose him for nothing. All 3 options are funny to me.

Make country something you can search by when you are creating a team under the NHL logo team.
So many Olympic and world cup teams create discussion and player pages already have nationality on them.
You can already search by nhl team, age position etc.

I could see the Hawks doing this as his contract expires before they need to sign Bedard and Korchinksi and Laine could be either trade bait or potentially resigned if he develops chemistry with the Hawks.

ERIC TULSKY
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockey_Soul</b></div><div>Health has been the only issue, and his injuries have been fluky, nothing chronic. He's in the NHL PAP to focus on his mental health, which is very reasonable and admirable considering all the bad luck he's dealt with, and it's no sweat to take time away from a team at the bottom of the standings.
His attitude has been great, i.e. approaching coaches to volunteer to play/learn center to help the team when all centers were hurt, taking Fantilli into his home for his rookie summer, staying in Columbus to play in a 3-on-3 offseason league.
When healthy his point production has been better than it was in WPG and his defensive game has come a very long way. He was statistically the best defensive forward on the team in 2022-23. He's absolutely worth the mild risk of a couple 2nd rounders.
Also, CHI lacks dynamic forwards and need a top line guy like Laine who can play with Bedard.</div></div>
Thanks for the insights on Laine. Puts him in a somewhat different perspective. I know there were Jets fans and even Jackets fans on this site who commented on Laine's lack of effort at times and his seemingly bad relationship w/ the media. As for his fit on the Hawks, Kurashev has been a huge surprise as the RW w/ Bedard. Doubt he's moving off that line. And Hawks still have Taylor Hall, who only got 10 games on LW w/ Bedsy before he got shelved w/ knee surgery. Gotta believe the plan is to put Hall back on Bedard's LW. So that would likely leave Laine playing RW on the 2nd line w/ Reichel on LW and Dickinson at C. Not sure the Hawks want to spend $8.7m on their 2nd line RW. And honestly, I can't see the Hawks trading away two 2nd's unless it's to move up in the draft order or acquire another 1st round pick.

Seconding this, I'd so prefer to have a younger forward-thinking GM who has spent the last few years in a top NHL organization over someone like Hunter, who would be yet another re-hash old-head former GM and true boys club member. The fact that we could have Mark as GM and Dale as coach is terrifying...where would the accountability lie if things go wrong? That just seems like more of the same old s*** that we've had for basically the entire Jarmo era: old-head coaches in an increasingly modern game that mire the team in mediocrity.

Marner
The Leafs are committed to Marner, whether they like it or not. His NMC gets exercised immediately, not because of destination but purely because he's exactly where he wants to be, making the most amount of money he'd make on a contending team in his hometown.
Honestly the only options Toronto has are 1) sign him to an 8x$12.5 or more, or 2) watch him walk after next year. If they wanted to shake things up, they had to trade Marner, location-independent, before the NMC kicked in. If they wanted to shake up the core, they had to do it before Nylander signed the extension. Toronto is stuck, they'd better hope it works.
For Columbus: I don't think this is the year to go get a big name. The idea is right, but I <a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/4987183">explored the idea earlier</a>. There's not really any good options right now that fit the timeline, either because they're not impact enough or frankly not available.
The rest is fine, the ideas are good, and the values look okay. I just think the team, given the market, is better served just making the picks, waiting, and letting the kids develop.

In two years
Aside from the Voronkov rumors, and the Jenner news, and the Laine news, and the Tarasov injury tonight (man, this season cannot get much worse. I fully expect Chicago and Pittsburgh to win both lotteries)...
This lineup is super promising. It still feels like this team has one too many currently-mediocre top-6 forwards, but if this is what we have, the only changes I'd make are:
- Flip Johnson and Laine, let Johnson play with the faster Chinakhov and see if they can wreak havoc in transition. Laine would be a dominant 3rd-line scoring forward with some power, and his footspeed is a better match with Jenner
- Flip Voronkov and Sillinger. Silly is such a good defensive player, and a sneaky good playmaker already. See if he can feed Laine and make that 3rd line a combo of scoring threat and defensive prowess. Voronkov would be overkill on the 4th line, but what are you going to do if that's the center depth?
- Just buy out Elvis, the tandem should be Greaves-Tarasov by 2025-26.
If everyone reaches/plays up to potential, the defense looks ideal, and the forward core is versatile enough that the coach should just need to find the right line combinations. Honestly, if we're not in the playoffs by 2026, it might be time to tear things down a lot farther.
And if we have another year like this year, it might be time for McConnell to sell the team, and build a new arena that isn't on clearly-cursed ground.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>lowblocksniper</b></div><div>LOL I was waiting for this comment!
I understand fanbases love their players but, do you really think Kyrou is worth the same deal? Honestly
Not a center and a worse PPG, you get futures and something to tide you over. If trades only happened for pure prospects and futures trades would only happen with the likes of Anaheim and Buffalo who have mega capspace you need to take something in return in these situations and again, you can't deny both dudes can hockey</div></div>
Dude, Nobody is saying that Kyrou is worth the same as Eichel. What everybody is saying is that your trade is not even worth comparing to Eichels trade. I would go as far as to say that it is worse than what Lindholm got this year.
Of course Kyrou doesn't get the same return as Eichel, but the hypothetical return would be way better than the garbage you are giving.
Side note: half the people roasting your trade aren't even St. Louis fans.
