Division Contender
Yeah, i realized that about halfway through. I wanted to make a big splash, but there's no one outside of Pasternak worth breaking the bank for.
The more I think about it, I came to the conclusion the Wings probably hold off making a big signing this off-season because they'll have to pay BIG money to Seider, Raymond and Hronek the following year. I wouldn't be surprised if Stevie trades Vrana at the draft or in the off-season.
If this roster stays healthy I think it's good enough to challenge for the 3rd division spot.

I just feel like if we’re really gonna go for it we can’t have Hellberg in net for 20% of these big remaining games.</div></div>
Hellberg has been decent. He's only going to play in back to backs. Most teams are screwed if their starter gets injured. Stevie is already paying Ned 3 mil to play in Grand Rapids.
I just think 3rd pair RD is more important right now. Our forward depth is through the roof.

Off season
Yzerman has done a great job pushing us toward becoming better.. you just destroyed everything in this post. all of your trades have me shaking my head wondering why...you think Krug with 5 years left is helping us? how? Pius Suter for JVR straight up? LMAO what does that do for Detroit?
Everything you did here is the reason why Holland was removed and you would quickly follow after this.

Cognitive Dissonance
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ISeeBlueHeLooks</b></div><div>I suppose it doesn't make sense if you don't see the value in having a good, veteran to pair with Edvinsson to help his development. I'm not all that worried about the contract, especially if there's a bit of retention, because the Wings won't be stressed by the cap (in all likelihood) during its duration. You obviously like Hronek, I get it, but at this point I'm skeptical that there are any RHD in the organization that will end up being long term pieces aside from Seider.</div></div>
I don't mind trading Hronek but I wouldn't do it to replace him with Petry. Liljegren is a player I could see as a Hronek replacement.
Yzerman isn't going to bank on either Edvinsson or Johansson making the team out of camp. He's going to sign two veteran LD that can shore up the left side and in case one of the kids should force the issue in camp he will simply move Walman to #7 and Oesterle to GR and let the kid start on the 3rd pair with Lindström (which would be fine for both Simon and Albert).

If I can give more insight on Petry for you. If DET do intend on acquiring him as a veteran dman, I'd make sure any younger dman being pair with him be either a two-way D or pure Defensive D. Petry is a puck carrier offensive right shooting Dman. Expecting Petry to suddenly become a defensive D to look after a younger offensive dman is a no go... That's why Petry meshed so well with guys like Edmundson, Chiarot, Jordie Benn, etc. over the years.

Would Definitely Clear Up Tons of Cap for the Future
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shakabakes</b></div><div>I don't think he'll get traded, anyway.
But for a guy who basically averages 100 Points a Season as Ranger? And under Contract for 4 more years? He could easily fetch that return.</div></div>
He had bad playoffs, he is overpaid, he does not fit into young Red Wings roster, and these 4 years are his 32,33,34,35 years of age. That decrease his value.
Can Bertuzzi even play inside MSG without magic shot ?

Wings decline. McDonagh is a great player but is getting older and can easily regress and that gives Detroit just a crappy contract for the next couple of year

McDonagh
Not a chance in hell Detroit is giving up good future assets to add a 33 year old signed for 4 more years. You'd get like a mid round pick at best since Detroit would be the one doing you the bigger favor. If you want a better return find another team to take him on

Thread:
Detroit Red Wings Draft Board
DET is the most thin on centers of all kind. Another scoring wing could also help, but not as much as centers. And I don't see DET being super-high on another LD. They have several of them in pipeline already (Edvinsson, Wallinder, Johansson, Viro, Sebrango, Buium, McIsaac). I guess they could select exclusively defensive D-man, but majority of the guys projects as NHL players. Roster spots are limited. On the other hand are their RDs already in the NHL. Tuomisto is not in NHL, he is 21 and at RD position might be described as the only prospect with chances to become NHL-er. I would be surprised if DET wouldn't select another NHL-projectable RHD in 2nd or 3rd round.
So for 1st round I agree on BPA forward. Kemell, Lambert, Kasper, Nazar, Russians etc., almost anybody makes sense.
1st pick in 2nd round: center, preferebly big one (Gaucher, Bystedt). If both are gone, BPA big RHD.
2nd pick in 2nd round: probably big RHD. If they already have one, another C makes sense (Goyette, Kulich, Beck, Hughes...)
3rd round and lower: BPAs. DET love Swedish Frolunda team (Persson, Ratkovic Berndtsson, Milosevic). In OHL they like Guelph's players (Bertuzzi, Fabri, Smith, Suter). I guess Yzerman is not as huge fan of a program as former GM Holland, but he traded for Suter anyway. So selecting Zhilkin, Poitras, Karabela or Buchinger in 3rd round and lower would not surprise me.
