A Guy Can Hope

I think Ranta has a chance to be a top nine to top six player next year, he is still a little underdeveloped at this point for sure though. The trade can be tweaked for sure, it's more just the idea behind the trade I was going for.

Oh, I agree, this is more of a trade deadline type deal if the Stars are having a mediocre-bad season. I think Avs are fine until playoffs having a platoon at the 2C position but come playoffs our smaller 2C's will get pushed around.

In a perfect world you are correct, but with the apparent handshake deal with Kadri and the needed room to sign Noah Dobson, Kiefer Bellows, and Romanov.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gofnut999</b></div><div>Trading Debrusk to bring in Kessel is brain dead move. Bringing Kessel in at all is brain dead move.
Don’t need to pay to move Reilly. He has value.
There is plenty left to do. This is not it though.
PS. You forgot Zacha</div></div>
I know I was more just messing with the Kessel stuff, ending it where it all started for him.
I didn't put Zacha on there because he will only be signed along with Krejci and Bergeron if there is another trade like the Foligno one but like you said he has the final say. I think Reilly has value but cap space has more value right now and it looks like there are very few teams willing to take on a cap hit for multiple years without giving a contract back. This is a rough ROUGH draft for sure, I'm just saying that the bruins have the most amount of work left to do in this now dwindling offseason. I don't see you guys being able to move Forbot (M-NTC) or Grzelcyk without giving up quite a bit since you'll have only one or two trade partners even possible. Its the dead part of the offseason so its just some things to ponder, who really knows about Seabass will play it all in the end

I do love some Jonathon Toews but I don't know if he has enough left in the tank to be a full-time 2C on a contending team. I think Sakic and company look at how Tampa Bay did it after their first cup, try to keep the team together as long as possible. Keeps the locker room happy as well. Time will tell though

It would be a dang good battle, you have the better goalie but I like my defensive core better. We did come out pretty similar in a lot of ways for sure too. I'm surprised you went with Tarasenko with a lot of guys under that cap hit available

There are rumors that MacKinnon is willing to take another team friendly deal. Obviously it will still be a pay hike above his 6.3M cap hit</div></div>
Yeh, he's been talking about taking that team-friendly deal but his agent is Pat Brisson which does make me a bit nervous. Hopefully, his best buddy Crosby has instilled in him that a team-friendly deal is worth it in the long run. My hope is a Jonathon Toews contract of 8 years and 10.5 per year. I think Sakic and company learned their lesson which is why we went after Georgiev, especially considering Avs don't have much draft capital left. Trading another first-round pick could be detrimental long-term and might make us look like the 2003 Avs with literally no prospects in the "cupboard"

And how can you say Sakic and McFarland aren't keen on rentals after they traded for Kuemper?</div></div>
Girard and Timonen are the same height.... Ill believe the Mackinnon contract when its signed even if its hopeful. Thats one trade out of every trade they've made. Literally signed everyone else and tried to sign him but he followed the money. Should I name every other trade that wasnt a rental? Even look at the deadline deals and whos still here...

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Knuckl3s</b></div><div>Is there really that much uncertainty once Girard's cap is unloaded, and presuming Miller is only a rental?</div></div>
I say the uncertainty because Byram was seriously considering retirement and if Mackinnon leaves in FA those are two huge holes. Sammy G is a great top four defenseman who has proven with his iron man streak he can be a solid guy with higher upside like kimmo timmonen to me. Sakic/Mcfarland dont seem like they really like the idea of straight rentals either. I like where youre head is at my friend but if were trading for a 2c id rather a younger guy we can sign to a reasonable contract. This is a good topic though thats sparked a bunch of conversation, the same type of conversation that goes on behind closed doors in every front office. You seem pretty pragmatic so ill give you that but if were trading Girard id rather go after a guy like Byfield or someone like that. ( I know hes off limits im just saying that type of young growing player) cheers

I like this idea from both teams perspectives if the Canucks decide to go into a mini rebuild. The only way I see the Avs doing this though is once Byram and Mackinnon both sign their extensions, before that there is too much uncertainty about the Avs cap going forward. Plus, add in the fact Byrams concussion history and it would be a gamble to trade away Girard before Byram shows he can sustain elite play for an entire season.

Haha I just ran it back for three years straight in these armchair gm's. We'll see how Georgiev does with our stout defense in front of him, Kuemper had some bad games and yet we still won. I think if Georgiev/Francouz keep their GAA below three in the playoffs we have a chance every game, which is crazy to say with how the game is played these days. I can hope though right lol

The question now is who is going to play defense and how are they going to get rid of Hornqvists contract. Unless the trade Verhaeghe for a defenseman they are looking mighty thin on the back end. Maybe trade Hornqvist and Verhaege to anaheim to get them closer to the cap floor and sign Klingberg for a cheap-ish deal.

While I agree hes cheaper, I would argue your other points. Girard has been a top pairing defenseman for four years and is entering the prime of his career. Sean Walker would work for the Avs too, that piece doesnt matter as much. Blake has said he wants to start getting more established players and Sammy G has the potential to be very good for a long time with a very capfriendly deal for the foreseeable future. Either way I'm just throwing it out there, as an Avs fan I wouldnt mind the roster as is today with some of our younger guys stepping up to fill the 2C role, just think this trade benefits all teams involved

That username looks familiar haha... whats up man. Im surprised you would give up Severson, but I do think that Calgary needs to get a defenseman back. Although, they may just want to go full rebuild and may just want a bunch of picks and prospects... Like two firsts and two B or better prospects.
