Based it off the return for Hampus Lindholm, think that may be the asking price for top 4 d nowadays.

Yeah I'm siding with you there, still don't really understand the McDonagh trade for that reason alone. Granted, no one forecasted Tkachuk being available. My other thought was throwing Granlund in the CGY deal and nixing an Ekholm trade all together. Just don't know how I feel about Duchene being a 1C.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>qc14</b></div><div>I don't see this being a move the caps would make. Backstrom is not guaranteed to be out the entire year, and certainly not the next two years as well. Taking on Ekholm's contract would be a massive risk given that he's already 32 and has 3 more years. He is also a LD, of which the caps have much more organizational depth in Gustafsson, Johansen, Carlsson, Alexeyev. A move like this would only make sense if they move out Orlov, who at this point I think is a better player than Ekholm</div></div>
That's fair. I think Orlov is going to command some good money in FA -- maybe even more than EKholm is currently signed for. And I know Backy isn't guaranteed, but I think they should pull a Tampa and try game the system. It was between WSH and OTT for Ekholm, just thought it would help with Caps' playoff push.

You see these guys as low value? I can see the argument for Johansen maybe but other than that, all proven middle 6 guys and some potential to be more.

Yeah I can see that, think going full rebuild requires seeing them out. I opted for a "retool" for the sake of keeping fans engaged, but I can see the benefit of going all in.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>STORY OF MY LIFE!!
I am more willing to pay the price for a top-10 goalie than for a winger.
I think I sent these in another thread a while back:
1. A 2023 1st round pick (top-5 protected, rolls to unprotected 2024 1st)
2. Blackwood
3. Your choice of Daws, Schmid, (or I guess Brennan)
4. Your choice of Walsh, Boqvist, Thompson, Zetterlund, McCarthy (or similar level prospect)
or
1. 2023 or 2024 2nd round pick
2. Blackwood
3. Your choice of Daws, Schmid, (or I guess Brennan)
4. Your choice of Foote, Holtz, Gritsyuk</div></div>
Keeping Sharangovich over Holtz would be a mistake IMO, need that low cap number Holtz will have for the next few years to keep young core together. I'm not huge on either option, but 2 feels much better than 1.

Yeah his current contract is no reason for pause -- I'd say it's one of the best in the NHL. My worry is the contract after this one. Think of Bobrovsky, Price, etc. With the workload WPG has given him over the years I wouldn't be surprised to see him follow the same path as the guys mentioned.

Respectfully, has it worked in NYI for him though? I agree the Isles need him, but his name has been in rumours for what feels like 2-3 years now. Think a change of scenery may be on its way.

I was tempted to throw one of Holtz/Stillman in the trade but decided against just based on Helle's age and contract atm. As good as he is, the contract he's due for gives me pause -- so many 30+ goalies in the league on bad contracts right now, can see him becoming one of them down the line.

Sonny Milano still on the market, think he matches or does more than Beau, trade gives them some cap wiggle room. Understand your explanation but Lou loves him some big Dmen like Dillon, so maybe I'll keep my fingers crossed.

You’re using rational thought for both trades, but hearing Dach’s name thrown around leaves the door open for something like this imo. The Avs deal is predicated on Keumper falling victim to COL retaining Naz and Nuke at big money, which is where I see the possibility of them falling short of grabbing a starter. Overall I agree with your sentiment thoigh.
