Of course, my biggest gripe with my trade proposal is that Detroit and Nashville might not be in sell mode and might make the playoffs. If they are in the hunt at the deadline they may hold onto all their UFAs making this trade a non-starter.</div></div>
Carrier's a solid 2nd pairing defenseman. Brunette does blend his lines in weird ways, but he's NSH's best right shot defenseman. He was Ekholm's usual partner, when they were on the same team.
I think Carrier would get a 3rd+ to a 2nd+, depending on the market at the deadline. Like you said in a later post on this thread, he might be the best UFA RD available. Even if his worth is only a 3rd, like you say, this is less than that.
I'd counter with a conditional 3rd that becomes a 2nd if EDM makes the conference finals, and a longshot prospect, like Wanner or Jonsson.

Canucks decline. They have publicly stated that they are trying to clear cap, not add more bad contracts. You'd have to add probably a 1st+ for them to consider, at which point it would be much easier and cheaper to just dump Foegele somewhere else.

So then why aren't all Oilers defensemen averaging 57 points per 82 games? Pretty phenomenal how stupid your take is.

Okay, you're obviously done with Foegele & Barrie lol.
BUF might take Foegele for Future Considerations and OTT might pay something, but OTT would also have to dump Zaitsev... Maybe there's a Trade that includes both between EDM & OTT, with OTT adding of course. But I like the 7th RD Pick coming back if you're giving one up, Smart!
Sprong & Rask will likely only give you 1 year contracts, hoping to bounce back and get a pay day next off-season and PK Subban will likely cost at least $2.25-2.5mil/yr and same thing, for 1 season only

If I were Karmanos, and Holland offered me Foegele, Barrie, 2023 5th and 2024 4th for 2023 7th and 2024 6th I would say yes.
Foegele would give Sabres depth at forward and Barrie would fit right into Granato's up tempo system.

I believe Ingram will be saros’s back up next year. In all honesty he should of been this year. If I’m poile I’m keeping Ingram unless it’s an overpayment

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JaXon</b></div><div>Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, it's a tough read. He's been lights out for a while, but he's still young. Probably too young to be a regular NHLer at this stage. Most goalies don't have an NHL impact until about 26 years old. That said, he's probably a bit too young for what Edmonton needs, anyway. They need someone who is on the verge of making it.</div></div>
Yeah, as far as Chicago goalies go, I’d actually be interested to see if the Oilers would make a run at Lankinen this off-season if the Hawks don’t bring him back. He’s been up and down in front of a horrific team, but there’s definitely talent there. Might not be the worst idea for the Oilers to go after a couple of cheaper guys in net who have some talent and see if one of them can break through.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JaXon</b></div><div>Please expand on where the inequity is. I genuinely would like to know. Both teams would be unloading 2 unwanted contracts. Chicago would be giving up the better prospect goalie as of now, but Konovalov is no slouch. He was one of the top KHL goalies for a few years at a very young age before coming over, drafted 85th overall, which is pretty high for a goalie. Chicago gets a 2nd pick for a 3rd to make up for the prospect difference. Connolly isn't even in the NHL this season and has a cap hit of $3.5M. Barrie may have high cap hit, but he is a PP specialist and he led the entire NHL D in points just last season. Murphy is a UFA so you lose him for very little at the deadline anyway. His Cap hit is too high for many Cup contenders to trade for him at the deadline as a rental. That was my logic, anyway.</div></div>
Murphy is an unwanted contract? That's news to us Hawks fans, and considering that the Hawks signed Murphy to an extension (and thus he isn't a UFA), it's probably news to them too. The Hawks need a top 4 defensive RHD way more than they need a D like Barrie.

Well Barrie is absolutely a no for Anaheim and I don’t think they have any reason at all to trade Dostal so therefore only way would be some crazy overpayment

Oilers Draft Zary
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JaXon</b></div><div>I hear you. I'd seriously consider Askarov. But, goalies take about 5 years to arrive. Even the elite ones. I'm not sure we can wait for Askarov to arrive. Cross your fingers that Konovalov is the real deal? Unload a bunch of contracts (trades, buyouts, letting RFAs, UFAs go) and sign a marquee goalie like Lehner or Markstrom?
Also, Centers can often play wing (Draisaitl, Nugent-Hopkins for example) but it doesn't often work the other way and Amirov isn't rated any higher than Zary by many scouts, in fact I think most have Zary ahead of Amirov. Zary represents a big, speedy, goal-scoring forward who can play C or W. Plus I'll take the kid from Saskatchewan every time, haha.</div></div>
I put a lot of stock in the fact that Amirov plays against men in the second best league on the planet and performs phenomenally against his peers. I also tend to shy away from WHL players: I don't have much to base it on other than more NHL players come from the OHL. Not a fan of the system most WHL teams abide by.
I think it's worth recognizing that Askarov probably isn't 5 years out. He's playing well above his age bracket, and he's only obligated to stay in Russia for 2 more seasons. I think he's 3 years out tops, which is about what we'd expect from a quality forward taken at #14.

While Edmonton could absolutely use their own home-grown #3C with top-six potential, how do the Oilers justify passing up on either Amirov or Askarov, which both represent much more dire organizational needs, and can still be considered BPA at #14?

Coming from an Islanders fan, who would love for them to improve their defense, I wouldn't touch Karlsson with a 10 ft. pole. I know he had to learn a new system in San Jose, but he does not look that same as years passed. I'd be questioning the overall health of his ankle and definitely not dishing him out a 7 year/$70 million contract, likely with a full NMC. There are definitely other ways they can go that are cost-efficient too.

Honestly I think the Oilers need to work on finding a legit top line winger to place with McDavid. One of either Duchene or Stone would be great, and wild probably cost less than Karlsson.
I think the D will be decent enough, Bouchard will be ready for a role as a third pairing/PP specialist. And I’m curious to see what Caleb Jones/Bear/Persson can add. If they can move Sekera and Benning, that’s frees up 10.5 mil with the cap going up to 83M. Roll something like:
Duchene-McD-Yamamoto
Nuge-Draisaitl-Puljujarvi
Benson-Spooner-Caggulia
Lucic-Khaira-Zykov
Klefbom-Larsson
Nurse-Bear
Russell-Bouchard
