<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JackBurton</b></div><div>I think Exo makes the most important point here, which is that Lindholm's value is greater to Anaheim than any other team currently. Without him, what are they left with? Cam Fowler, and the grossly overpaid ghost of Kevin Shattenkirk? Everyone loves Josh Manson because he lays the body, but he isn't all that great a defenseman...

On the flip side, they have a ton of RFAs to sign, Max Comtois, Jones, Steel, Lundestrom, and that's minimum requirements. There's four others they may or may not sign. And then Baldy, his big contract just ended, so he'll likely be taking another one with them, for less yeah, but probably in the 4-5 range. And they're still carrying Kesler's dead weight, as well as 2 mil of Perry's contract.

So it would seem more likely that if they can get a good return for Lindholm, they'll send him off to make room for signings. But that return has to be better than what he's worth, optically, for even someone as dumb as Bob Murray. So I agree that you've got to put a better offer forward, but it isn't like you are wildly off.</div></div>

Most importantly, Ducks are at the bottom of the rebuild process and about to start their climb. Lindholm and or Manson both are 1 year UFAs and can't see why either player at their age wants to wait around another 5 years to become a contender. In the same breathe, why wouldn't the Ducks move at least 1 or both to help accelerate their rebuild? They have to be thinking 4 to 6 years out which means going after players 25 years and younger.

They have a pretty good prospect pool/young guys and the 3rd pick OA this year will only add to that with a player like Hughes, Evidsson, Clarke being options if they don't get Beniers. Notably, outside of Zegras, they don't necessarily have another top 6 center save for Lundestrom being a surprise. Strome fills a hole for sure.

On D, they have notable young prospect/players such as...
Drysdale, Mahura, Thrun, LaCombe

Manson and Lindholm are just not the right timetable for their rebuild IMO. That doesn't mean they will sell cheap, but I think Lindholm is very good, but overrated here. He's worth a late 1st and a good (not great) prospect IMO. So Strome + Kurashev or Beaudin or Vlasic or Nylander should get a deal done IMO and a good move for both teams.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JackBurton</b></div><div>You've never heard of The Three Stooges? ****ing hell, now I KNOW I'm old... Well trust me, if they were on a line, and you went and watched an old episode of The Three Stooges, you'd totally get it.

Anyway, the point of this post was Monahan. Let me say that I LOVED Monahan, and for all those years that the Hawks struggled to find a proper 2C for Patrick Kane, I was consistently screaming two names into the void... Ryan O'Reilly, and Sean Monahan. He'd have been the PERFECT 2C for Kane, though the cost would've been immense.

Now... Something's ****ed off with Monahan. I have no idea what happened to him, but he hasn't looked right for two years. If he continues to decline at the current rate (though only using two years of decline may not be a fair basis for comparison) , and Strome starts to trend upward again, they'll basically be on equal footing. And Monahan may still be ****ed, while Strome is getting to where he needs to be.

So for me, I'd not want to give up all of that to acquire him and have it turn south.</div></div>
Fwiw I think Monahan should bounce back. He had a career year in 18-19, followed by a down year in 19-20 where he still had 22 goals in a shortened season (56 point pace, which is about 10 below what you’d expect from him but down years happen and a pro-rated 26 goals from a guy in a down year is still pretty solid). This year he was playing through a hip injury and never had a consistent line (the RW was a constantly revolving door of 4th liners thrust into punching above their weight alongside him and Johnny: Ritchie, Leivo, Bennett, Simon, Robinson, etc. and none of them were any good for longer than a game or 2 max, and then for the last 10-20 games even Gaudreau got taken off his line and he was with Mangiapane and Dube for a while). His surgery was successful though, and if he is given middle six or better quality linemates that don’t change every game he’ll be a top 5 2C in the league (up there with guys like Trocheck/Kadri/Karlsson, I don’t count Tavares or Malkin as 2Cs) fairly easily, and can obviously hang as a 1C with elite wingers (not an issue for Chicago as Kane, Kubalik, and DeBrincat are pretty good lol). He’s money in the bank 20 goals when healthy, and can reasonably be expected to push 30 (he averaged 30 per season from 2014-2019), and should definitely return to that form next year, regardless of where he plays. He also improved defensively under Sutter so he’s not a tire fire in his own end anymore.

As for the trade, I’m not a big fan of Strome, but if he can hold down the 3C job that would be fine. He might be an asset we trade on so we can sign or trade for a better 2C and 2RW (like Danault or Reinhart). I have no idea what to think of Nylander anymore, but if he can be a bottom six RW that gets 35 points I’ll take it, basically what we wanted Leivo to be. Maybe coming back to his hometown will benefit him lol. The 1st and Zadorov are the appealing parts of the package. The #11 pick is the clincher that would get the Flames to actually consider moving Monahan, as otherwise he’s probably only getting moved for another top 6 C/RW (Backlund’s good, but we’re not super deep up the middle, and scoring was an issue this year). I think playing against Zadorov and Lucic would just be super intimidating lol, and then if you escape them you run into Tkachuk or Ritchie (who we probably keep for 4RW). Sutter would have a field day with this group. I don’t think I’d pay him anywhere close to 5 though. 4 is the max, probably try to keep it around 3.5, but Treliving is a tough negotiator so he’ll probably get him for a reasonable deal.
