Next year 3rd overall
I know Hughes is all about asset management but if it were me I’d definitely let Dvorak go for FC.

Habs accept.
Skinner is definitely overpaid but he is a top 6 talent which is what the Habs need atm plus it’d almost be worth it just to have him not score on us every time he plays us. Gally has been a heart soul guy for the Habs but at this point in his career a bottom 6 guy who makes top 6 money. I’d even argue the Habs would need to add a sizeable asset.

Also I would think it’d be better to just offer slightly more than compensation in a trade for a young goalie with potential, then sign him for a more reasonable cap and not piss off another franchise who could do the same and poach your RFAs in the future. Just a thought.

Mercer has had a down year but should demand at least 4.5 especially with the cap rising.

2024-25
MTL has lots of cap space this upcoming off season and Armia has only a year left on his contract. Even if he didn’t just have a comeback season there is absolutely no reason for the Habs to pay assets to dump his contract.

I don’t see anyone trading for Chytil while his career is in question. It’s unfortunate but it’s just the way it is.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>evelutions2</b></div><div>Any conversation about Necas to the Habs will have to be circled around one of Suzuki, Caufield, or Slafkovsky being a piece that comes Carolina’s way in return. Canes don’t need dmen, and the ones that Montreal would be offering wouldn’t be much interest, since they would be playing on the 3rd pair with not much opportunities to be anything more, or would be scratched.
As for forwards, the 3 aforementioned forwards would be of interest, but not much else. Futures also isn’t of much interest considering that the Canes have enough as is, but they are also a contender.</div></div>
Sounds like Habs and Canes just don’t make good trade partners in this instance then…

Playoffs are the Expectations
Just to be clear Marchessault is not from Montréal, he is from Québec city. He was born, grew up and even played Q there until he was 21. I say all this because I find too many people just assume that if a player is from the province of Québec that they will automatically be willing to live and play in Montréal which I’m sorry to tell everyone, is not the case. I’m not saying he won’t sign with the Habs just that I don’t see Montreal having the inside track due to location.

I guess you haven’t noticed but he's already reached that top D spot. I feel some fans have turned on Guhle a bit lately but it’s completely unwarranted. Sure he makes some mistakes but the kid is only 22 playing top pairing on a rebuilding team. Imagine what he’ll look like at 25 when this team is ready to contend.

Yes I want to play Reinbacher in Montreal next year provided he keeps playing how he played this weekend. He was amazing 😍.
Mailloux & Reinbacher should be our only 2 rookies next season.
I love the size and skill if this defence core and I love our top 6.
This solves almost all of our problems.
Edit: Just to clarify. Draisaitl is hitting 100-120 points per season. That's a 60-80 point improvement on Dach's best production to date.</div></div>
Still trying to get over you calling Suzy a weak top line center, your Habs fan membership should be revoked for that comment.

whats missing 2 yrs from now
I know you’re trying to keep righties on the right but Xhekaj will be a fixture on the blue line for years to come while Barron is very quickly running out of road in Montreal. Also Matheson is more than a bottom pairing dman so he’ll get traded before anything like this happens…
On offense Newhook is more suited to the wing so I’d switch him and Dach and unless Anderson drastically steps up his game we’ll definitely need more scoring in the middle 6.
Overall if Hughes does nothing(which I highly doubt he will)this team is fighting for a wild card spot in a couple years. If he somehow adds serious secondary scoring then this team could be a threat in 3 years.

Why buyout Armia? He’s had a resurgence this season and only a year left on his contract with almost 15 mill left in team cap space.

Quite in line with what Hughes payed to get Newhook. And Kakko is better than 8 goals, just having a rough season, at least he’s solid defensively even when he’s not scoring.

Where Calgary is in the standings and how they’re playing, that second is most likely a mid second.

Also, massive overpay on Kakko’s and Xhekaj’s contacts</div></div>
Vlasic buyout would be heavy for the first couple seasons but Habs have the cap then it’s completely manageable for the following couple of seasons.
Kakko contract is actually quite in line with the Dach and Newhook deals so I don’t see how that is unreasonable while yeah that’s a lot to give Xhekaj but I believe in his potential so I don’t think it’s a bad investment to get him locked up for his entire prime.

LA doesn’t strike me as a team too interested in a guy like Harris and Kaliev while yeah he can shoot his below average skating and complete lack of back check scares me…I honestly don’t see him getting much of a return but I have been wrong before.
