Need a 4C for Playoffs
Glendening is a monster in the FO circle. And he has been for a while. My guess is the more Habs wait to make the move, the steeper the price will be. For now, I'd be agressive and go for a 2nd + a 3rd.
But I'd also want Stecher to play 3rd pairing RD. So I'd be willing to offer choice of Mete/Kulak + Poehling + a 2nd for both guys.

Habs Deadline
I like Glendenning a lot. I like Stecher also for our 3rd pairing. Not a big name, but he could prove to be useful down the road. I would probably offer something like Mete/Kulak + Poehling + 2nd for both (adjust to make money work).
Hall? I don't know man... He's a good player, but anything Buffalo seems jinxed this year! I think I'd pass. Except if it's something like MTL 1st + Byron + Weal + B prospect. Basicaly, If it costs just a first, GO!
Habs DO need a top-4 puck-moving LD. But the solution may come from inside, if Romanov keeps improving. But yes, if MB can get his hands on a guy like Ekholm at a decent price, he should do it!

Alzner Mutual Contract Termination
I get what you're saying, but I think there's a more realistic option: Habs could trade Alzner to a bottom-feeder after bonuses are paid in full. Alzner then gets paid only $1.5M this year but counts almost $4M towards reaching cap floor. He can play 6D on a bad team, no problem. He was actualy not that bad during last training camp!
And next year, he can either be bought out or whatever...
So I'd do something like Alzner + a 2020 4th to Ottawa for a 2021 5th. Or he can even be packaged with a B prospect for a better return...

He also said publicly that he's ready to deal his first pick, a roster player and a prospect for a big addition. So take some, leave some... GMs have a job to do and good ones don't discuss their plans with the media...

Why does MTL have to add Poehling, Mete (or Kulak or Juulsen), and 16th overall for a 2nd round pick to make this trade happen?
That's just a ridiculous overpay, just resign Domi if that's the asking price.</div></div>
I think Ehlers is a more complete player and un underrated offensive threat. I would take him over Domi every day of the week!
That being said, maybe my offer looks like an overpayment. And maybe not. Just saying I'm willing to give all those assets to get Ehlers. Maybe Poehling is not necessery, maybe he is. At this point, I don't care!

Winnipeg need both youth AND depth. This package of Domi + Poehling + depth D + 1st is exactly what they need. They could use Domi either at C or on the wing. Habs can afford to trade the 1st because of all the picks they have after that. And getting a 2nd rounder for next year is just a way of spreading out the assets in time. Plus it's not like Ehlers is 38 or something... Fits well with the core Habs already have...

I dunno... are the Jets in rebuild mode?
Are the Habs in win now or never mode?
Cause this deal sets Win back a lot and puts a big dent in Habs' youth depth... But then again, Laine is still super young...
So my guess is that Habs say yes but jets say no!

Why would Mtl trade Byron now?
We have no cap issues and we don't have too many contracts on the books. Is he injury-prone? Maybe. Is he paid too much to play on a 4th line? Probably. But, when healty, he's a better-than-average PK with top-shelf speed.
As of today, Habs have limited moving pieces: Hudon is playing in Europe/KHL next year; Weise is gone via UFA; Ouellet will go back to Captain duty in Laval; Folin will either walk or be signed and go to Laval; Mete/Kulak battle it out for #6-7 D; Alzner can be burried in Laval if no CBO... So we're left with a choice of Weal/Poehling/Evans as 13th forward, depending who gets the starting job on the 4th.
Sooo, that's the lineup. If Habs sign a veteran for the 4th, Evans/Poehling can go back to Laval, or they trade Weal.
If Habs want to improve on Top-6 wingers, they can trade Domi + prospect + picks.

3 team Laine FiveForFighting other scenario
If Domi can be the main piece in a Laine trade, Mtl will cover the balance and get Laine.
But in reality, Domi can't be the bait that gets you Laine, IMO.

You can add a 4th on Habs side of the deal.
Also, why bury Weal? You can either keep him or trade him with a pick for a 2021 pick.
Otherwise, I like it. What's with Hoffman though? Why do we keep hearing that he's not a team player? I don't know him well enough. Seems like a good fit but I am curious to know more...

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheLastOfUs</b></div><div>Yeah for sure that would be ideal lol but this isnt a bad trade for Domi. I would definitely rather use him in a trade for a top 6 but if they cant something like this would be nice.</div></div>
It's an option, yes. But so is keeping Domi! If MB is true to his ways, he won't trade Domi just for the fun of it... And taking on 3 contracts vs just one doesn't help the Habs right now. Low number of contracts + cap room was a HUGE advantage for Mtl this off-season. We all saw what happened with cap room: it's all but gone!
My guess is Habs keep Domi if they can't package him with 1-2 other assets for a bigger piece. Then, they move a low-end piece at the draft to move up. Like a Mete + 3rd for a mid-2nd or something like that...

Well, I dunno... Value is there, no question... But do we really need this kinda deal? I'm kinda hoping Habs do it the other way around: trade 3 good pieces to get an ever more important piece of the puzzle!
Again, my trade to make is Domi + Poehling + 2nd for a Top-6 scoring winger.
