Like Horvat but hate his cap hit. Too expensive. Lindholm at $4.85m at 2C way better value.

Canucks point predictions

Garland slightly high (too many assists)

Season projection based on this roster?
I'll go 34-37-11 (OT loss/SO loss) for 79 pts</div></div>
I expect Kuz shooting % to go down a bit
Mikheyev scored at a 25 goal, 50 point pace with a torn ACL. I don’t think this point prediction is high at all
This is all an 82 game pace projection so likely they don’t hit those actual totals
Do you really expect the Canucks to be that much worse this season? Why? The Canucks finished last season with a winning record. Why do you have them as a lottery team this season?

Beauvillier the main return for our captain? He was literally the salary cap dump to balance cap hits. He was the 3rd most valuable asset out of 3

Hall 36 pts, Yegor 30 pts( in defensive role)
It’s a pretty good swap for Boston</div></div>
Sharangovich is RFA, he doesn't make $2M and if he makes less, there's a reason for that: he is a worse player. Sharangovich may never be an actual 2nd liner so the age doesn't matter. Defensive role for Sharangovich? Hall started in DZ more frequently than Sharangovich and the latter started in OZ more than the former. Hall mostly played on the 3rd line with Coyle and Frederic while Sharangovich played a lot with Hughes and Bratt (Boqvist and Mercer too). Hall played 61 games while Sharangovich played 75 so comparing points while ignoring the time they actually played is a poor stats usage.
0/3 arguments worked here. Bruins shouldn't trade Hall right now.

It's been obvious for awhile to me that ownership there is giving schizophrenic directions to the GM(s).

Ugh, don't bring up that trade, it's looking gnarly for us.
Hronek could prove me wrong and I hope he does, but that was not worth a potential 16 OA pick AND a high second in a STACKED draft. Allvin would've done better had he just hung on to those picks and improved our tiny prospect pool.

I do agree Boeser value is low for sure an the contract doesn't help the value either. That being said Matty G is a solid D man, but the value does seem to be inflated for sure with his comments. But never fear he will tell let you know you are 100% wrong and only his opinion counts, so don't even waste your time.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JohnJohnson</b></div><div>I really believe the notion that Miller is a toxic person is really overblown. It’s based solely on a couple viral clips from this year. Last year everybody loved him and there were even calls to make him captain instead of Bo. If he was truly as bad of a personality as people think he is, it would have been known before his 10th season in the league. This isn’t to say that Miller is the greatest guy ever or that he is even worth his contract, and you’re right he clearly does have attitude issues. I just think they are very exaggerated at this point</div></div>
People don't like Miller because Miller got his bag and the Canucks continued to suck this year.
He did the same things last year and was called out for it under Green by fans, but fans didn't care when the Canucks were winning under Bruce.
Each team's fans do it every year with a player or two, a fan favourite who becomes the target of ire. Happened to Kessel on the Leafs, Pacioretty in Montreal, Gaudreau in Calgary, Hall in Edmonton, Laine in Winnipeg.

Realistic Canucks Deadline
You have 4 retains in there Boeser, Kane, and one for edmonton + Horvat max is 3 slots. Boeser deal imo isn't worth it he's starting to finally heal up from his wrist injury I'd rather hold onto him for a better return or if NJ is willing to part with a 2nd with Walsh I'd do that 4th isn't even worth the 1.65m retention (seen Dickenson for 2 years at 1.3m cheaper contract was a 2nd.

Adding around the fringes for an all in approach
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JohnJohnson</b></div><div>That’s a lot to ask of the Canucks to retain that much for that long. You’re right that Niemola would be involved in that kind of deal, and a one for one swap could work without retention . I don’t see that Leafs taking garland at full cap. Just not sure there’s a fit here.</div></div>
yea. fair. I suppose it comes down to how much the Nucks value Niemela and how much they think they need that 1.495M over the next two seasons. But I do think this is close enough to be plausible. Especially if you guys could flip Kerfoot for something decent by retaining which I'm fairly certain you could, he's a great swiss army knife for any contender and teams would jump all over him especially at 1.75M.

Agreed, but they’ll come cheaper, on a shorter term and are far better defensively, which works better for the Flames and their current Cap Situation
Lots of Flames Fans want nothing to do with Boeser because they claim he’s soft and lazy, but I do believe he could/will eventually produce just as much offence as Fiala or Meier again, that said, Boeser’s more of a one dimensional player

Islanders top prospects
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JohnJohnson</b></div><div>What did you have Raty rated as?</div></div>
7.9 and he is my #6 forward (i made this post trade fyi). That 7.9 was on a different scale tho:
1- NHL possible
2- NHL likely, depth
3- NHL expectation, depth piece
4- NHL near-lock, role-player
5- Medium upside
6- Great option to top player
7- Great player, few ASGs
8- High upside, #1 option
9- Elite player
10- Franchise player
he is a great prospect. the islanders system is so weak that i had to stretch out the bottom five of the scale above to make the NHL-doubtful prospects have a spot on this list lol

I must’ve read what I saw about Hoglander’s waiver eligibility wrong then, wasn’t aware of that. I still think he’d hold decent value though (maybe some personal bias but he is top 10 from his draft class in points, and has proven to be a skilled player) I think he’s been used incorrectly the last two seasons and would thrive in a top 6 role

New Third Line
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RipNasty</b></div><div>You have to look at how he gets those points though, he doesn't do it off the cycle much. He scores his points off rushes and generally spends more time in his own zone than the offensive zone. His lack of defensive awareness won't work in TO. Garland is a better offensive but worse defensive version of Kerfoot but can't play centre. Garland is without a doubt overrated.</div></div>
You clearly haven't watched Garland play. Here are all of Garland's goals from last season: https://youtu.be/hC56sSMxvNU
14 of them were in the cycle, and the other 5 were breakaways or 2-on-1s, rush goals.
Most of his points this season (21 of 27) have come 5v5 because Vancouver's PP1 is so stacked already, Garland gets limited PP2 time. He'd be a bigger scoring threat if he was given Top-6 minutes, but given the Canucks stacked forward group, he's been 3rd line most of this season.
As for Garland being bad defensively or having a lack of awareness, that is absolutely not true. Garland is the 2nd best defensive forward at 5v5 on the team next to Pettersson, better than Mikheyev and Horvat pre-trade. His advanced stats are all glowing on a Canucks team that boasts one of the worst advanced stats groups of the past decade.
Canucks are not going to have to retain on Garland and I'd much rather that they keep him since Horvat is already gone and Boeser is the more likely candidate to be traded.
