<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CheechYou</b></div><div>Pesce very likely would resign with Nashville. He doesn't want Canada. He doesn't want the West coast. He'll stick around in Nashville if they pay him fair value. If a team can't make room for Brett Pesce then they must be a dynasty on defense.
Bordeleau isn't a lackluster prospect. He's got serious 2C upside. Weisblatt is a former 1st whose value went down the past few seasons but has regained his form as of late. He was noticeably the 2nd best player on the ice in SJ's developmental camp game a few weeks ago behind Musty. SJ has drafted/signed too many RWs of late, so he's expendable only in that sense.
The PHI 2024 2nd included in the deal here has plenty of value since it'll more than likely be in the 33-37 range. PHI will suck this season.
Askarov's a great top-6-7 goalie prospect in the league. But let's not pretend a team has to move heaven and earth to be able to acquire him. No one's trading a grade-A+ prospect for him. And he'll have to wait a long, long time in NSH behind their goalies, which is why they were open to shopping him as part of a package deal for a higher pack in the 2023 draft. Bordeleau+Weisblatt+a high 2024 2nd is perfectly fair value -- it's just a matter of if NSH decides to trade one of their goalies instead of Askarov, which doesn't seem to be the case.</div></div>
A #6-7 prospect? Askarov is widely considered to be a #1-2 goalie prospect.
Paying Pesce much more than he already makes as he enters his 30s, isn't my preferred move for the Preds. Plus NSH has a glut on the right side already. Bringing in Pesce doesn't make sense unless one of their other RDs is getting shipped out in the deal.
Bordeleau and Weisblatt are of little interest. NSH desperately needs a #1 center, but they have enough middle six centers with more upside than Bordeleau in Glass, Pärssinen, Novak, and Svechkov. RW is also where NSH's pool is the deepest - Wood, Kemell, Evangelista, Tomasino. I didn't watch the Sharks' prospect camp so I don't know how much Weisblatt suddenly improved, but I'd rather have that 2nd than either of the SJ prospects. There's no way NSH is trading someone with superstar potential for this kind of return.

Top prospects?
Even without having to retain on EK, NSH isn't moving Askarov for a rental 2nd pair defenceman they don't have room for, two lackluster prospects, and a 2nd.

Teams arent scoffing at the Helle return, fans are. And that’s likely because Helle is an expiring UFA and is reportedly asking for 8-9m+ on his next contract. He shot himself and Winnipeg in the foot with that one.
Saros has two seasons left, and is arguably better than Hellebuyck. He also didn’t say anything (yet, at least) about wanting a massive paycheque for his next deal. This package is meh. Berggren is the only really exciting piece coming back. The 2026 first is irrelevant to our needs as it’s 3 draft classes away, Veleno is a 4C and Buium isn’t great, but he’s fine I guess. I don’t hold Husso having a lot of value here because he needs to come back to make it work and we’re essentially just downgrading between the pipes.
Stevie Y isn’t going to move the pieces Nashville would want in return for Saros. But, Rob Blake <em>almost</em>
did. This doesn’t work for either team.

A Bit of Business
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HockeyScotty</b></div><div>How low would they go on Fabbro for a draft pick do you think? I thought about a 2nd rounder but he was a mid-first pick himself and has been a top 4 defender in the league for a number of years now. He is still under team control as an RFA as well.
I can't believe he isn't one of the most sought after trade options given his contract, being right-handed, and a good two-way player.</div></div>
There is some weird push from some NSH fans that say he isn't that good because he isn't the top D man to pair with Josi they thought he was, so some people might say a 2nd or 3rd, but realistically the lowest NSH would probably go, for a single pick, would be a high to mid 2nd round pick for Fabbro. Given where COL is likely to end up, a low first round pick is about right especially considering NSH needs to take on MacDermid to make the money work. As you said, he is a really solid 2-way D who is top 4 for most teams. NSH has just been blessed to be a D production powerhouse over the last 10-15 years and fans have grown accustom to it.

With the extension they gave him, it is more of a 'Prove It' year than anything being he'll now be a UFA after this season. Both Fabbro and Carrier have trade speculation around them as those 2, along with Lauzon... one of them starts the season as a scratch.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AEcho</b></div><div>There is some weird push from some NSH fans that say he isn't that good because he isn't the top D man to pair with Josi they thought he was, so some people might say a 2nd or 3rd, but realistically the lowest NSH would probably go, for a single pick, would be a high to mid 2nd round pick for Fabbro. This is pretty spot on for the value of Fabbro in my eyes. Being an RFA still provides some control to a team who acquires him. I would say Carrier's value would be 1 round less. Mid-Low 2nd round or high 3rd.
But as it goes for either player, once the season starts and they do show the upside that they supposedly have, the values will only go up.

Leafs Flames
TOR is not a very good trade partner for Saros given what has historically been reported as the price. Back at the deadline the ask an A-tier prospect and 2 1sts. That likely has come down a bit, but a top 6 projected a 1st and 2nd or 3rd for a top 5 goalie on a steal of a contract with term is going to cost a lot.
LeBrun reported that NSH isn't really even considering offers on Saros right now and he is likely to remain in NSH. They will likely resign him as they have the cap to give him whatever he wants. If TOR wants Saros they have to be willing to pay more than what they want because they don't have pieces that really interest NSH. Samsonov is likely an average goalie whose numbers got propped up by playing on one of the most dominant teams in the NHL. Another example of this is Georgiev. That said, he doesn't have a ton of value to the trade because it doesn't make sense for NSH unless something else enticing is part of the deal. He doesn't take anything, but he can't be the big piece in this trade. The only prospect TOR has that would interest NSH really is Knies. Knies, a 1st, Samsonov, and a 4th round pick is probably what is needed to get NSH to really consider that deal.
At the end of the day if TOR isn't willing to consider moving Knies+ in a deal for Saros, then NSH isn't going to consider moving Saros to TOR.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CheechYou</b></div><div>I can see this Bordeleau Askarov swap. NSH is reportedly entertaining offers for him (whether they should or not is a separate discussion). If Bordeleau doesn't (or even hasn't) impressed with Grier -- he wasn't his pick -- and/or doesnt' make the jump to the NHL quickly, Grier can sign one of Lindholm/Matthews (Patty+Jumbo+a young up and coming team+maybe some roots in the bay area can lure him) and also have Hertl+Couture below them at center with Smith+Bystedt coming in soon. They have no clear goalie of the future though. It's a trade I think that makes a lot of sense for SJ and a trade I think NSH considers and could take.</div></div>
I see where you're coming from, but like <a href="/users/AEcho" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@AEcho</a> said, Trotz was only willing to move Asky if it meant moving up to the 4th or 5th OA pick. I could see him entertaining offers on Asky, but it'd have to be for something insane.

NSH declines. Askarov was available at the draft for 4th/5th overall. The moment that pick went off the boards, was the moment in which Askarov's became unavailable.

Question for Preds Fans
Everything Novak related depends on if last season was a fluke. That's probably why he signed at such a low cap hit. He'll be getting a good amount of opportunity (likely as or 2C behind ROR). I'd say Novak would only be made available if the Predators weren't close on an extension for him. Then, I have ZERO idea what the asking would be. I could see a team paying as much as a 1st+ and as little as a 3rd tbh. He's just a very weird player to value.

Moving that TBL 1st is a bad idea. TBL has to decline at some point with the way they continually trade picks and their core will eventually age. Holding onto that pick could lead to getting the franchise forward Trotz wants.
