Stephenson with Howden and Stone was the line through the playoffs. Howden is an RFA that will probably get the $1.5 and I would very much prefer him to Hathaway.

VGK keep Barby Hill Howdy
Logan Thompson at under $800k will be one of the goalies. If you can convince Hill to come back for less than his market value then LB goes elsehwere. If Hill prices himself out the LB probably signs here again in the $2m-$3m range.

I can't imagine watching the success of this current run and thinking that VGK would want to add a player like Debrincat. Honestly, save the money and try to sign Tyler Bertuzzi for that same spot. Much better fit for the way VGK plays.

That "someone" was named Max Paccioretty.
With Shea Weber's LTIR and the likelihood of Patrick never playing again, Vegas has somewhere around $7.5m to sign the three RFA with Roy being the top priority. He will probably command somewhere in the $3m-$4m range, which would mean the VGK would have to miss out on one of the other two (probably Kolesar). In your scenario he gets traded to the Avs and signs a $2m AAV contract. If he was willing to sign for $2m AAV the deal with Vegas would have already been done.

I absolutely love these takes after half of one season. I'm not sure what people thought Eichel would look like after sitting out for a year, but he definitely showed signs of brilliance in spurts. Let's not forget that the surgery that the Sabres wanted him to have would have meant that he wouldn't have played at all last season.

Tkachuk again
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>The trades you refer to probably don't match the situation, on several levels. And that's before we even get to the questions it raises: Does Karlsson have Calgary on his NTC list? Would Tkachuk really sign long term in Vegas? Does Calgary view Karlsson as anything more than an onerous contract at this point? We're now into a lot of ifs and a lot of stretches. It adds up. And then on top of that, they'd have to wrangle the cap clearing. You seem to hope it will be quite painless. I think that recent experience should warn you otherwise. And so it keeps adding up and adding up...</div></div>
Those are all very good questions that don't really need to be answered in a hypothetical world because these are just exercises in possibilities. Your point about cap clearing is very important though. I had a feeling that Pacioretty would be moved but I thought that he would have some sort of positive value given his performance and the fact that his contract has only one year left on his deal. I was incredibly wrong about that.

I tend to agree but this is what we always say about trades like this before they happen and right after they become official we all say, "That's it?"
Like I mentioned, I used the Eichel trade as the standard. Tuch being more valuable than Karlsson leads me to believe that VGK would have to add another prospect but I do thing we're at least in the ballpark.

I could see them moving out a little bit.</div></div>
Vegas hasn't had a 23 man roster since the first season. Obviously being on the edge of the cap ceiling has made this a necessity and it can definitely be argued that it's part of the reason for the team not having more playoff success, but that is the way it has been and they're likely to have 20-21 man rosters for most of the season.
They also will get another $1.2m of LTIR money since Nolan Patrick has had more issues with head injuries and his career may be over. There are three main RFA to sign (Roy, Hague, Kolesar) and they will probably bring and ELC up (Brisson). They would ideally like to move Brossoit but have thus far been unwilling to give up draft picks to do so.
I agree that VGK will likely need to move out more money but it won't need to be in the $5m range and it certainly wouldn't be a player like Marchessault, who is very much a staple in that locker room.

If it costs $2m to sign Roy then Vegas would do that in a heartbeat before considering moving him for a 2nd. The Pacioretty trade and Weber LTIR gives VGK a little over $7.6m to sign Roy, Hague and Kolesar, which should be more than enough.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RichardAvs</b></div><div>How much cap space does Vegas have? 4 dollars?</div></div>
With Weber and Patrick on LTIR they would currently have $7,662,500 to sign Roy, Hague and Kolesar. Kolesar will be in the $1m-$1.5m range and Hague has no arb rights so that should be more than enough. It also seems as though Lehner may not be able to start the season so that's potentially another $5m that could be placed on LTIR, though I doubt it would be necessary since there will likely be another trade (Brossoit) to clear up some more room.

Roy Cost
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hurricanes73</b></div><div>An offersheet at 4.2m gets it done. Vegas can’t match. Could do the same with hauge if wanted too</div></div>
I'm not sure if VGK would match that because it might be a tad rich for where he currently is but I do think they *could* match. Basically the three remaining RFAs that need to be signed are Roy, Hague and Kolesar. Hague is not arbitration eligible and Kolesar should come in somewhere in the $1m-$1.5m range. When you factor in Weber's ($7,857,143) and Nolan Patrick's ($1,200,000) salary that can both be placed on LTIR that would leave VGK with $7,662,500 to spend on the three RFA players. There are also rumors that Robin Lehner ($5m) may not be available for the start of the season so that would give even more cushion if necessary. This is the whole reason that the Pacioretty happened when it did, because they knew they needed some protection from offer sheets on Roy or Hague.
As for what VGK would want in return for Roy, I'm not sure. My guess is that they would prefer to do everything possible to make things work out in regards to signing him and if an offer sheet comes around that they're unwilling to match then they would just take the 2nd round compensation. Realistically I think that if someone wanted to sign him for $4m then Vegas wouldn't match, though I would guess that a bridge deal could get done between $2.5m-$3m. He has comps that would go higher but VGK having Chandler Stephenson at $2.75m probably gives the team some ability to push that range with Roy as well. Especially when you consider that Stephenson has been better thus far.

I like the idea of adding Tyler Motte.
I would also move Brossoit and move Thompson into the backup goalie spot to save another $1.5m and make a run at Stastny for something in the $2.5m range. Put Stastny on 2nd line LW and move Stephenson to 3rd LW to slot Roy in at 3 C. Those two have had some decent chemistry in the past.

I agree with you about Roy, maybe a bit of wishful thinking on my end especially for five years.
Theodore seems to thrive more offensively on the right side but I do think that pairing him with Whitecloud might be a solid idea.

Adding Eichel and Coleman

Coleman is going to get 5m+ with that term, maybe 6. He is going to be one of the biggest FA's and plenty of places have no state income tax</div></div>
I have no idea what Coleman would get but I wouldn't be stunned if he got what you say here. He's absolutely worth the money and he may want to be a focal point of another team after already winning one (possibly two?) Cups(s) by that point. As for taxes, I think VGK, Nashville, Dallas, Tampa and Florida are the places that would be options without paying state taxes. Wouldn't be a surprise to see the Stars make a run at him to bring him home.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>VGKNation702</b></div><div>That fleury trade is bad for vegas. We can get more for him, but I ultimately think it’s Lehner that gets moved.
Love getting coleman. I think that’s close for Eichel; probably need to add NJD2nd and another prospect not named Krebs.</div></div>
I don't think the Fleury trade is great for Vegas either but I REALLY wanted to try to get Eichel AND Coleman without losing Martinez. In reality it's pretty tough to imagine being able to have all three but this is probably the only way to make it work.
You're right about having to possibly add for Eichel and I would definitely be happy to add that 2nd. Also agree on Krebs. Don't want to lose him OR Tuch but I would deal with losing one or the other. Definitely not both.
I actually had another version of this that moved Fleury through Seattle to Pittsburgh that brought back a 2nd round pick instead of receiving Mikheyev and signed Haula for $2m to be on the third line with Coleman and Stephenson. Would be the best scoring threat VGK has ever had from a third line. The problem is that it would mean playing Krebs on a 4th line and I can't imagine PDB or the GMs being okay with that.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jempey82</b></div><div>Pretty sure this team is over the cap. You don’t have Fleury retention on the books and are less than a million from the cap ceiling.
Might get Martinez for that but I expect he gets close to a million more. Coleman should get 4-4.5 in a world that currently appreciates his style of game more than it used to.
From a trade standpoint as a Leafs fan I think value is there with the retention. Not sure it makes sense for Vegas though.</div></div>
In the trade notes I mentioned that the trade would have to go through a third team like Seattle so they could retain the salary. The TML pick goes to Seattle for that, Mikheyev goes to Vegas, and TML gets Fleury and the 5th.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Meeqs</b></div><div>I think that VGK could easily get Eichel but you likely will have to swap out Tuch and Carrier for Krebs and Smith.
Also I dont think you get either of those UFAs for that price</div></div>
As a VGK fan I would actually prefer to give up Smith and Krebs because of Tuch's age and contract. I'm actually not sure why Buffalo would want someone Smith's age (as good as he is) when they're a ways off from contending.
As for UFA prices, they're definitely on the lower scale of what both players can make but I think Martinez would probably prefer to stick around for slightly less if it's reasonable. Coleman can get more but I was thinking that the 5 year term might bring his AAV down a bit if there were a modified NTC included. Also, have to remember that there's no state tax in Nevada so that can potentially be an advantage, Coleman making $3,750,000 in Vegas would probably mean more take home money than getting over $4m somewhere with state taxes.
