He does make his fair share of dumb plays and panics with the puck.... But my goodness, without him, the Leafs D is softer than cheese on a hot day.

Toronto Maple Leafs signed Pierre Engvall (2 Years / $1,250,000 AAV)
Its a very good deal, would love to see something similar for Mikheyev (maybe a little higher AAV, 2 years @ 2.25m?)
This is honestly how I would rate leafs forwards in terms of value to the team:
Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Nylander (closing the gap on Tavares quickly), Hyman, Mikheyev, Kapanen, Engvall, Kerfoot, Johnsson, the rest....
Looks more and more like either Johnsson or Kerfoot will be odd man out this offseason.

You're not wrong, but the better option is defintely moving Kapanen or Johnsson, promoting Engvall, and using the cap space you then save on D.

Agree with both of these. I was thinking the same thing, but I don't think he can even discuss extension until January 2021 can he? Because of that short term, his value is pretty low.
I wonder if there is a deal to be made for a top D-man like a Pesce without giving up Nylander, because Nylander's contract is going to look better and better moving forward.

Pageau and Smith and Marleau
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Toddyd77</b></div><div>Why pay top dollar for a guy who on most other teams is a 3rd line center? JGP is having a career year because he is playing 3 minutes more per game(19:09) this year than his career average(16:08). He is playing on a top line and getting regular pp time. He will play nowhere near that in Pittsburgh. As a reference Blueger and McCann both play about 15:30 a night. To give up a 1st a top prospect and a young center who anchors a really good shutdown line for a Rental 3rd line player is just dumb and horrible asset management. JGP will not score at the same pace or have an impact in a reduced role for the Pens.
I like Craig Smith but Nashville doesn't need another goalie.
Marleau old, slowed down, no thank you.</div></div>
- Maybe I should rethink what PIT gives up for Pageau, maybe, just 1st and another pick or different prospect.
- Marleau is old, but somehow now slow. Go look at his goal the other night.
- Nashville does need a goalie. They have 2 underperforming goalies both on short term deals. And Rinne likely retires in a year.

Agreed. Probably a bit of an overpay, but I think Pageau would fit really well in their bottom 6.

Moving Kerfoot for D this season
Wasn't too focused on D pairings, more on the thought behind the trade to get defensive help and if it was fair value. Could just as easily swap Sandin and Ceci. Kind of feels like we will never have a fully health roster this year, but at full health, pairings could be:
Reilly - Larsson
Muzzin - Holl/Ceci
Dermott/Ceci - Barrie
Ceci

Also you’re lines are way off...
Korpisalo is stop hurt, Texier is out indefinitely last I read so he won’t be back until the playoffs or later and Gavrikov is a top 4 D... not a healthy scratch.</div></div>
I know they have a ton on injuries, just wanted to see what team could look like when mostly healthy.

CBJ Playoff Push
my thinking was that both are having a bit of a down year, and NSH could use a bit of a shake up. Atkinson scored 40 goals last year. Agree about the age difference and contract value, but could argue that Atkinson is a lesser risk in short term. What would CBJ need to add? They likely are not giving up any more picks.

Yes, this is going to be a bad deal by the end of the contract, but if you're WSH you realize that your window is right now and and for a couple of more years. Ovi, Backstrom and Holtby are not getting younger. Do as much as you can while you have them.
