Larkin for 1C
Larkin is all potential. If he’s a 63 point player a year then this deal is a considerable overpay. He’s been in the league 3 years. I think his peak will hover around 70points so I believe this is a fair trade and likely favors DET since Parayko is young and established and Allen is a young starting goaltender (aside from January when he is invisible). Also Kyrou who could potentially score 50-60 points a year in a few years

Would Thomas instead of Kyrou get it done? I've seen many trades of Parayko for Draisaitl on this site. I feel as though Larkin and Drai are comparable players

Should have plenty of cap space with Gunnarson and Bouw off the books along with the $14 million on this roster. Also, cap will likely continue to increase. But I agree lots of big names have contracts for only two years

You wouldn’t want Staal, Teuvo, Skinner, Hanifin, Faulk?
I agree with keeping the depth but at some point we need to go for the title with our core entering their primes. Eddie was a bridge deal btw which is what Army said he’d get this summer most likely

That is an awfully expensive 3rd line. Avoid signing Bozak and trust that Thomas/Thompson/Kyrou can play well on the 3rd line

Going for the cup without mortgaging the future
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rkfike</b></div><div>Carolina gets a prospect who doesn’t project to better than skinner and goalie who is just a goalie because he’s so hot and cold...and has 3 more years left on his contract. Ottawa loses a a consistent scoring winger for a bad contract, a late first round pick, and two prospects. Neither is well regarded. Foley has the most upside and at best becomes backes-lite. If either team trades those guys, it will be for much more. Would you trade tank, Schwartz or schenn for a similar package?</div></div>
Tank, Schwartz and Schenn are on different levels. They are bonfied top line players. Skinner and Hoffman are top 6 players. Allen is young and is a starting goalie. He may have a cold streak for a month every year but when he is on he is great. Kostin is higher regarded than you think. Berglund is not a cap dump. 3.8 million for a 3C who scores 20-25 goals a year is a good deal. Barbashev isn’t highly regarded but is cheap and can play a reliable 3rd line. And Foley as you said has the best potential.

Carolina gets a starting goalie and a potential top 6 forward in a year or two. Ottawa gets a reliable 3rd line center, a cheap young 3rd liner, a well regarded prospect and a first round pick

Trading Parayko
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>A_K</b></div><div>I feel like at this point in his career, Green is better off as a 3rd pair guy with PP1 time. That's a lot to pay him (almost as much as Parayko, and he won't provide the same quality of play as Parayko). The bigger concern though, is Green's health. Dude's only played 82 games 1x in 13 seasons. Parayko has missed 3 games in 3 seasons. I like Drai but I don't know if we would be any better if we lose Parayko. Just my opinion at the moment, I've seen this trade before and thought "hell yeah where do I sign" haha.</div></div>
Personally, I'd rather sign Carlson or trade for Faulk or a similar player. Green just fit cap wise and could sign him on a shorter term deal. And if we trade for a RHD replacement then we can't do the MTL trade or we'd be giving our entire prospect pool away sans Thomas.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>nalzugaray12</b></div><div>Interesting for Edmonton sure, but I don't think they would trade Draisaitl after just signing him long term. Also, this trade for EDM just keeps reducing their scoring problems, but obviously fixes their D problems. Parayko for Nugent Hopkins+ makes more sense I feel....Just curious because I'm assuming you're a Blues fan, what convinces you that Parayko should be expendable? I thought he'd be an untouchable for the Blues</div></div>
His lack of physicality on defense hurts us. He also has not reached his scoring potential and we are not sure if he will. He is playing great for Canada right now but for whatever reason it does not seem to translate to the NHL. Don't get me wrong though, Parayko is a huge part of our D and is very hard to give up. He is still extremely solid on defense and decently offensive (also young). I would only trade him for a 1C or a 2C with other pieces added. RNH wouldn't get the job done for me. Unless Klefbom + RNH for Parayko but EDM won't give that up

Helping CAR rebuild
If it comes down to it, I would be willing to swap Kyrou for Thompson. But that is about as much as I would give. Skinner has 1 year left and Teuvo is an RFA after this year so both salaries will likely go up. With this current roster construction, it would still be difficult to keep both while factoring in raises for Fabbri (if healthy) , Schen/Edmundson/Thomas/Dunn in two years.

Secondly. Remove Teuvo from Carolina and add Hanifin. Remove Kostin from the Blues and add Walman and Schmaltz</div></div>
Also Teuvo helps to actually build a real top 9. Unlike our usual top 3 and then 3 third lines

I dislike Berglund as much as any other blues fan but he is worth a late first as he’s a consistent 20 goal scorer and actually has a decent contract for a 3C. I’d love to have Hanifin but I am afraid some other team will overpay for him and I doubt Schmaltz and Walman could get it done as neither are highly regarded

Reasonable and Promising
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>A_K</b></div><div>He got rid of a ton but he kept Thomas, Kyrou, Foley, Walman, and some others, and he made age-appropriate improvements that would deepen the current core so that we can compete with guys like Tarasenko, Pietrangelo, Schwartz, etc. in their prime and not have to wait for 5-6 teenagers to develop into players. If it were possible, I'd be all for something like this.
Allen and Lehner is probably a matter of opinion considering Lehner has had to stop pucks in front of a dismal team for most of his career. The bigger problem with Lehner is I think we'd have to qualify him at 4m or he would become a UFA... so we're not saving money, but we would possibly be into Lehner for one fewer year than we are for Allen, depending on his contract.</div></div>
Basically my whole plan is to keep Thomas, Kyrou, Walkman and Husso. I’m not too high on Kostin. Thompson I believe will be a 20/25 goal scored with limited assists. Similar to Berglund. Other than that, yes I wanted players with similar age primes as our core

Reasonable and Promising
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>A_K</b></div><div>Solid improvement from what we look like right now. I think the value is probably there for all of the trades, you might be a little short on Gallagher based on his impressive stat line last year. Realistically, Tampa won't need to shed salary until 2019-20, and they'd have a much better chance at winning the cup with TJ than with those three players. Besides, they're so stacked, I don't know how they'd find room for 2 extra forwards given their current situation. They'd be better off to wait another year and then sell off someone like Johnson for picks and replace him internally with Cirelli, Stephens, Raddysh, etc.</div></div>
With the emergence of Point, TJ is basically a 3C now and I think TB would rather have 3 potential 3rd liners for cheap rather than a $5 million 3rd line center. Thompson has great potential and the other two would be 3/4 liners

Steen actually has 3 years left. So it's a one year difference. I do not believe Stastny would re-sign and I think the blues need something differed. Age 28-32 Stastny didn't help much, so I do not think an older one would be any different
