Colton did EXACTLY what they paid him to do -- career high in points with 40, won 51% of faceoffs for a team that's never over 50%, added grit and solidified 3C.

The expectation is a sign and trade for about the same as Pastrnak 8x$11.25M or whoever trades for him would immediately extend for something like 7x$11.5M. No way the Avs can afford his fair value unless the cap skyrockets. Beyond having no depth next year, they'll have trouble signing Makar again.

Perfect cap spending
No to EJ, too much for JJ, no to Talbot when Justus costs less, No to J Toews. No to Lindholm when you get Mitts for not much more. No to Perry and Maroon too. Those slots go to young ELC guys or minimum pay vets. Not sure what you're doing here.

Next year
I think it's either Drouin OR Walker. And I think it should be $3x3 or something like that for Drouin and the Avs can live with some combo of Malinski, Behrens, Jones and some league minimum hulking UFA as the third pair.

One stop shopping at ALLCAPS
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BackstromIsTheGoat</b></div><div>would u swap all the prospects for Gulyayev?</div></div>
Only having seen highlights of Gulyayev and reading about him, it sounds like he and Behrens are somewhat similar players, with Behrens a little stouter on D and Gulyayev with more offensive creativity & upside. The reason I say Behrens not Gulyayev is that the Avs need to sign Behrens soon or kick him out, and they really have nowhere to put him, while in 3 years, when Gulyayev is done with the KHL, he can slot into Girard's spot. I think Behrens will be a great 2nd pair guy, but like Byram, too many people are ahead of him in the depth chart.

Avs are set at wing. All they potentially need is a 4C and 2G. But they're fine with what they have when Val comes back and Kovalenko comes over.

Mitts sticks Walker walks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ArakinSkywalker</b></div><div>personally i think we're bridging mittlestadt. I don't see him getting more than nichuskin if he wants long term and matching landy. He's never had 20 goals, he's never shown playoff success, hes an rfa the factors are in our favour going into arb so with that i think he banks on himself and gets 2-3 year bridge deal around the 5 mil mark. Plus we're a good tax state so we will be able to cut a better deal, look at the rest of our big names that are big factors in the cup that could have made more on the open market.
I also think moving manson is a mistake, this is a pretty light d line in terms of physicality and i think manson will make his presence felt again this post season.</div></div>
I agree on Middlestadt bridge. Zegras at 3x$5.75 is the comp. At that point, they can decide if they can afford him or if Ritchie is ready to be the regular 2C.

Fehervary makes it pretty equal I think. He'll never have Byram's offensive upside but from the little I've seen and read about him, he seems like a young, pretty good 2nd or 3rd pair D with a reasonable contract for a few years.

Saw on Twitter that he did line rushes with RyJo and Cogs at practice today. I agree -- I don't think you break up the 1st and 3rd lines given how well each has played. Lehky so versatile he can play with anyone.

Another try at 2G and 2C
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>UpsideDownQue</b></div><div>Nelson would be a great fit, I think they could get him without giving up Byram though. At this point, knowing (1) the Avs will have to get rid of Byram, Girard or Manson next summer to fit in Landy, (2) Malinski looks like a legit 2nd or 3rd pair D, and (3) Ritchie looking like the long-term 2C (I know it's just OHL, but he's finally healthy and DOMINATING) -- 11g 24a 35pts +21 in only 23 games -- I'll be shocked if he doesn't play with the Eagles and get some callups next year), I'd rather trade one of the D now.
