Fending off an Offer Sheet
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LafreNYR</b></div><div>There really is no way to keep Copp and the kid line if Kakko gets offer sheeted(which I think is unlikely anyway). As for Lundkvist I agree he shouldn’t be judged off 25 games, but I also think he doesn’t really have a clear organizational fit here and they might look to move him to improve depth at another position like C.</div></div>
If they can add a C who slots in bottom 6 right now, and projects as a possible 2C...I'm all for it. But GM's usually hold these guys near and dear (like LA with all their Cs). And there just might be an organizational fit...regardless of what I put together here involving Lindgren, 3LD is open next year. Is Zac Jones the guy? maybe. But Lundqvist had (and prob still has) a higher ceiling. Carrying both is probably advisable- especially for injury depth. And at some point- 2 years down the line they probably will look to move Trouba.

I see from your profile you’re a Devils fan. Thanks for chiming in, all thoughts and ideas are welcome here at CapFriendly. I won’t call out ‘mistakes’ as I don’t like to talk in absolutes.</div></div>
Lol I love how Canes fans think they’re a target for 31 other teams. You’re not. Nobody cares about the Canes. I’m simply
pointing out the canes, thus far, have gotten taken behind the woodshed in both offersheet negotiations.
Go ahead and talk about the Dougie contract after one year, that’s fine, per multiple analytic models he earned his cap hit this year. Defensively he regressed which isn’t great but he has years of solid defensive play to give us hope that will bounce back. Unlike you, I can admit when a deal doesn’t look great..

Fending off an Offer Sheet
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LafreNYR</b></div><div>1) It’s gonna be nearly impossible to keep the kid line together next year because of the cap crunch.
2) Kakko probably isn’t gonna get offer sheeted, but even if he did you don’t move Lindgren the decision becomes to you prioritize keeping all the kids or do you try to win now(re-sign Copp and trade Chytil). If your priority is keeping all the kids it’s fairly easy even with a Kakko offer sheet https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/3310530</div></div>
Not dismissing your idea of handling next year's CAP crunch...I just don't like the idea of losing Copp and I'm still not convinced Chytl is ready for 2C. They gave big assets to get Copp here and he has been the perfect fit. As long as they can extend him for 5.75M per (or cheaper) they need to keep him. And the Kid line- staying together as a unit for 3rd line matchups is key to them continuing development. Also, you solve the 3C dilemma by moving Lundqvist for Dellandrea. At face value I guess the values are on par...but I don't think Dellandrea has shown a lot in DAL. And while Lunkqvist did struggle last year, I think what he really needs is opportunity- which comes if there is an opening. Arguments can be made that right now Nils is the 2nd or 3rd best D man in the organization. Given the opportunity, I think he can prove that- and sky is still the limit for him.

The bottom pair is a little sketchy but can be sheltered. I also think you could re-sign Vatrano around $3M AAV instead of Kravstov if you wanted someone a little more proven.
The biggest thing you're banking on is Playoff Chytil becoming Everyday Chytil, but it's not the worse gamble to take when you're talking about a 22-year-old.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LafreNYR</b></div><div>A few thoughts
1)Vatrano has been buzzing lately, I know C depth is an issue for us but between Vatrano Copp and Strome I think Frankie has made the best case to be re-signed
2)my only problem with this roster is if we’re promoting the kid line I kinda want them to stay together. They all seem to play better when on the same line. Can Panarin move up to the Zibanejad line and maybe force Kreider to RW.
3)I’ve thought since we have a lot of guys who really don’t have a spot here(Nils,Kravtsov, etc.) could we possibly look to trade for someone like Gourde or Dvorak with money retained who are more suited to be 3C but are good enough to move up to 2C if Chytil struggles.
Overall like the idea of this AGM tho good job</div></div>
You can definitely move Panarin and Laffy around, and in general a lot of parts on this roster. I kept it this way because I think playing with Panarin can help continue Chytil's momentum, and I think it's in NYR's best interest to keep the two headed monster of Zibanejad and Panarin separate. Regardless, having a lot of different combos that can make sense I think is a big benefit of this roster over signing one of Copp and Strome, where the roster likely won't be as deep. I think anyone in the top 9 on this roster can play on any one of the lines fairly comfortably, maybe with the exception of Goodrow
I don't know, I have to believe that Drury signed Goodrow to that contract with the intention of him being the 3C. That's a lot of money for a 4C player. Maybe they can get another rental or something at the deadline if they really feel they have to. I'd absolutely love Yanni Gourde, but SEA would have to retain 50% for it to work for NYR, and it'd likely mean losing someone in the top 9 anyway (at least after this year). Ultimately this is definitely a big gamble as you are putting all your eggs in Chytil being a 2C, as there's nobody else on the roster to fill that void if he struggles. It's probably why it won't happen, but still fun to look at it

If that was the case, the NYR would just buy him out. His cap hit would be $1M this season, $0 next season and $1M the following 2 seasons if they go that route but I wouldnt be surprised if they are able to trade him straight up for a 6th round pick. You have to also remember that NHL GM's arent the smartest and keep on signing bad players to contract every year.

Only thing that needs to be changed is the 2nd round pick to move Nemeth. You could probably get a 6th alone for him but if you had to include an asset it will probably only be a 4th or 5th round pick.

I wonder if there’s a bargain youthful left handed dman to be had or a bargain 4c that has the potential to push the top 3cs. That’s what I would look into for this off-season, and hope for a healthy cap raise going forward.

For sure, and sometimes key not to put too much money or vets in front of them and feel obligated to play the vet and the money ahead of the kids. Ideally chytil turns into that ideal 2c and goodrow and copp can be used anywhere 1 through 9, and kakko and Alexis can fill the holes in top 6. So the top 9 doesn’t need any adds that cost anything. That way top 9 basically has a little bit of everything.

He has been since he joined the team, but its a small sample size. Stromer has been a good player for the Rangers since he joined the team and has been a team guy, so I really do hate to see him go. But getting Copp makes it easier for sure. If they do sign Copp, I hope he is really this good.

I have seen JET FANS on here describe Scheifele as "Lazy"....."Locker room cancer".....and "doesn't know how to play defense", so why on earth would you trade for him when they have Copp OR Strome that they can sign at 2C, and at a lower cap hit? Schief may have more offensive potential than either of them, but winning hockey games and playoff games is about more than just offense. NO THANKS to Scheief at any cost.

Ya I’m a jets fan, with only guys in my playoff draft are 5 rangers, so definitely a playoff rangers fan this year. That kid line needs more time together, could be a interesting 2nd line in a year or two. Might need to figure out some more elc going forward not less.
