Rangers have 13.4 in cap space to sign or replace Blais, Georgiev, Kakko, Copp, and Strome. Kakko is extremely vulnerable to an offer sheet.

3.2 in cap space can become up to 7.3 by moving Bernier to LTIR as needed, used on a deadline rental if at all.

Well, to be fair, he also said Fiala would have been a 100 point player if he had been given better linemates the whole year.

We wouldn’t do 6 + 12 for 1. We’re not doing it for 2.

Why would kakko want to play for NJ? They can't make the playoffs

I don't think it's far fetched to say that with Fiala and a league average goaltender, nevermind healthy Kuemper, the devils are easily a playoff team.

Easily a playoff team is a stretch. More like playoff contender

It’s not reasonable to say “the wild have a dead cap hit so fiala’s value drops. There will be 4 or 5 teams calling, all of which can make a better package than this, so it will take more premium assets than is offered here. Ottawa or La can beat it much easier as a for instance

He is 21 year old winger, who need to try turn his career into right direction. Changing scenery may be right move. Playoffs shouldn't be a priority for struggling 2 OA pick.

This is a quick and easy MN decline. MN does still have leverage here, when 4-5 teams are bidding for a player, that drives up the cost.

Islanders beat writer for the Athletic is saying 13 OA and Raty is “fair”. “If the Islanders are cool with letting go of their first-round pick this summer, perhaps adding someone like Aatu Raty — a nice prospect, but not a slam-dunk NHLer — to the package would push it over the finish line. That’s arguably a pretty fair deal for both sides.“

You’re not getting Fiala for something that doesn’t “hurt”.

Maybe I'm overrating Raty but I don't do that. If the Islanders or the Senators want to come in and buy Fiala when they're in absolutely no position to be selling their first round picks then that's their funeral. There are other ways the devils can fill out the top 6.

That’s the cost of doing business, if you want Fiala you’ll have to pay more than what other teams are willing to pay. If NYI indeed do offer 13 and Raty, you’d have to beat that. OTT with 7OA and a prospect is also very strong. The notion that Billy has “no leverage” is just not true. Multiple teams = leverage. I’ll remind people he got a 2nd round pick for prospect McBain who he was losing for nothing after this season. A second round pick…

I go off the assumption that a GM is gonna try to do what's best for his team. LA might beat this offer but Ottawa and the Isles shouldn't be in the market, period. The McBain trade is what it is, you can also look at things like the Eichel package and Siegenthaler for a 3rd and say that it's impossible to predict what a player's actual trade value is. The devils have plenty they can add to the package without making a major sacrifice, such as their 2022 2nd, prospects like Bahl, Walsh, and Gritsyuk, and the 5 players in the Arizona "trade" above.

The jackets wouldn’t do that trade so you need to rework the proposal without the jackets pick. Also Fiala is gonna want more money. You will need to strengthen the deal as well.

My personal opinion, the Islanders and Senators are closer to the playoffs than New Jersey.

Probably, but good luck keeping or replacing Blais, Strome, Copp, and Georgiev with 9m. Not to mention Laf's payday next year.

Blais is getting the 1.6 million qualifying offer next year and then getting replaced by Cuylle/Othmann in 2023-24, nobody wants to keep Strome, we’d probably have to let Copp walk but I think NYR would rather take their chances with Chytil as 2C than lose their 2OA pick for nothing, Georgiev is not in our long term plans anyway we’ll sign a cheap 1 million dollar backup. Next summer when Laf K’Andre and Chytil all need new deals will be difficult but the key will be to bridge them until 2024 offseason when Trouba and Kreider NMCs expire.

I’d say that’s a general statement that’s not always true. Most GMs want to show results to their Owner to keep their job. Dorian has missed the playoffs 5 straight years and needs to turn it around asap to keep his job. Islanders we’re a massive disappointment last season, at a place with high expectations. Fitz probably wants to take a step too. We just don’t know what these GMs are thinking. The only thing I know is when beat writers are putting hypothetical trades out there, they’re usually getting their info from someone else (a source with a team), I’d assume the value will be somewhere around what the beat writers have been reporting (Russo said 7OA +, Islanders guy said Raty and 13OA).
