how bout Portillo, Ostlund and a 24 first.
I went to the 24 first bc I think Adams wants one more solid draft.
With 3 seconds it gives him some maneuverability at the draft to move back into the 1st round or secure a defenseman at the TDL

Agreed matter of fact put Portillo in Levi's place and add a little something else.
In Adam's presser today he mentioned Levi and didn't say anything about Portillo when asked about the future of the goaltending.

Boeser brings none of that and we have players already on the roster and about 10 prospects at the ready to be a middle 6 forward. We have no one to fill the role I have mcdonagh filling</div></div>
Your reply was not about the player but the cap being used...in your trade you used more cap for an extra year on a player that is 8 yrs older. The point being you aren't being constant, if 6.65 for 2 yrs presents a cap problem then 6.75 for 3 years obviously presents a worse problem.

Yet you are willing to pay a 33yo defenseman 3 yrs at 6.75mil and not a 25yo forward 2 yrs at 6.65mil...your comment wasn't towards the player but the money being spent. Your comment makes no sense.

Ostlund (50) is closer in the prospect ranking to Raty (45) than Savoie (23) and Kulich (20) in the Hockey Writers rankings...most that put out these ranking are close to the same.

I don't see the Adams trading Savoie or Kulich....Ostlund in place of Savoie and you have a deal
You're getting 2 centers and a first...of course Sabres and Meier have to have a contract in place.
Can't see Adams trading all that for a portion of this year and next without a guarantee
I know Lou got Horvat without a contract signed but I don't think Lou is going to leave himself out there to get screwed over

I don't think any of the prospects are "untouchable" but I think Kulich stays and assumes Olofssons spot in the line-up. Olofssons gets traded bc the Sabres aren't going to want to give him any higher a contract.
Adams won't part with Savoie, he is a 200 ft player. Ostlund would be who I think would go. We are set at center which would make him the expendable of the 3. JMO

Whether Demko is worth a 1st or not is elementary as far as the Sabres are concerned...UPL has played fine, fine enough to take over the #1 goalie on the team.
Can't see the Sabres spending a 1st on a goalie as this team has more needs than a goalie right now.
My opinion for what it's worth is where in the first round the pick is...can't see a team trading a lottery pick and if protected and it goes to the 24 draft would be a big gambling bc if they weren't good in 23, there's no guarantee they will be better in 24.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gretzkyghosts</b></div><div>I presume we all had a chance to see a preview of a playoff game against the Canes.
Playing either the Canes or Bruins would most likely end poorly.
So my questions for today-
What would the Sabres gain by trading away assets to make the playoffs this year?
Which has more value 28th OA or Jiri Kulich; or 34th OA or John Peterka?
Would it not be wiser to let this season play out, use the current draft capital to add to the prospect pool then trade either prospects or established NHL performers (i.e. Olofsson) to fill in holes next TDL or the off season?
Savoie, Kulich, Ostund, 2023 first and other forward prospects could be on the team in two years or sooner, replacing Asplund, Okposo, Girgensons, Hinostroza, Olofsson.
As a season ticket holder from the beginning (yes I am really old my friends), few people want to see a Sabre raise a cup more than I, but adding Meier, Demko or others may upset the chemistry (IDK just spitballin') as well as the team cap.
Moving up to get Peterka was brilliant, Kulich falling to 28th OA was a stroke of luck.
Jeramiah Crowe has done a great job drafting, let him continue to perform his voodoo magic.
Continue to draft well, sign Johnson, Portillo and Levi, build on the comoradrie that Granato has generated, playout this year with the cards dealt and be better next year.
Maybe this TDL cap strapped teams will gift d-men to the Sabres at the TDL, one can only hope!
Well that is my tome of the day.</div></div>
I understand where you are coming from but my feeling is that a player like Konecny or Meier brings a different type of game to the table that we don't have on this team or in the system, either of these players shouldn't be brought here for a playoff push but as a piece for the future. Meier is younger than Tuch by a few months so if all feel Tuch fits the timeline so does Meier (just that he would possibly be here longer) due to an extension. Sabres need some size on the team and I don't think there is a sabre fan that would disagree. Losing an Ostlund isn't going to hurt the prospect pool, we are stocked at center and wing but as i've said I don't trade Savoie bc he plays a 200' game and Kulich is Olofssons replacement. If an injury were to occur both Savoie and Kulich can move to center.
You just can't build and entire team through the draft...Sabres have their core in place, now is the time you add a piece here and there by trade or as we have seen take a shot on a waiver claim which is a risk free move (Jost) who has fit in nicely but in reality should be the 4th line center. Hopefully Savoie jumps in as the 3rd line center next year.

The team lacks physicality the bottom 6 needs to be restructured as does the bottom 3 on defense. It's time to say goodbye to players like Girgensons and Okposo and bring in some young physical players. Both have served the team well and Okposo goes out as captain and the Sabres find a place in management for him.
That's why I am all for the Sabres going after Meier for the 2nd line, he brings more to that line than either youngster does or ever will bc he is a different type of player. In saying that I'm not putting Quinn or Peterka down just different type of game each brings to the table.

This makes sense, trade while his value is high. Only reason I see summer as the best time is bc of cost...can't see the Sabres retaining with still another year left on his contract and most contenders can't afford his 4.75 hit. Could the Sabres take back an expiring contract to make it work, sure and that just jacks up the return and would a contender want to do it. The summer also offers more wiggle room for a team to fit Olofsson.

There's not a chance the Sabres are trading Kulich, actually he is rated as their best prospect ( The Hockey Writers and Corey Pronman) not in the NHL above Savoie and Ostlund who were drafted ahead of him last year. Another side note, Sabres tried desperately to trade up to get him with no luck and luckily he fell to them at 28.
Second, he will replace Olofsson as I don't see Olofsson being re-signed past his current contract which expires after next season. So I see Olofsson traded either this summer or at next years TDL.

He is being very patient and it's been going well. They weren't even supposed to compete for a playoff spot with the younger roster in the league. Trading the farm for players (GMTM) is a major part of why the team has been out of the playoffs for so long since it killed the future of this team. I'm fine with Adams not making a splash this year, but wouldn't be opposed to making one big move for the playoffs.</div></div>
Once the TDL is here and done then we'll see if Adams has grown as a GM, I agree with a lot of which you say but it's easy to tear down a team and yes the culture has changed but the big reason for that was the cancer was cut out and is gone and I think the Vegas coach called him out publicly. Trading one of the 3 firsts from last year or if SJ would accept Rosen isn't going to hurt us.

Don't know which is worse having a GM that gives away the farm (Murray) or one that always smiles and does nothing (Adams)
I'm not saying make a trade just to make a trade but a Meier could tip the scales in the Sabres favor to make the playoffs.
The players need management to show the work they've accomplished to this point is rewarded. Adams has the ammo to use and not put the prospect system in jeporady.
All he has to do is grow a pair and take a shot. He hasn't made a trade to help the team, the Eichel trade was forced upon him and to his credit he held out to get what he wanted.
Then do a minor trade to upgrade the D.
