Pens didn’t a LHD or RHD until they did..lol.
And Detroit rebuild seems to be just about over. Their signings this offseason proved that. I wouldn’t trust Maatta with 2nd pairing minutes anymore. But ok.
And Chiarot struggled with 1st pairing minutes and a 1st pairing role in Florida.
Larkin, Raymond and Seider seem like pieces to build around. And Hronek, Copp, and Bertuzzi are nice complimentary pieces(unless Bertuzzi gets dealt). With acouple more nice secondary pieces.
And waves of those prospects are gonna be coming through in a year or two.
You feel competitive this season with Maatta at 2nd pairing LHD??

Pens After trades
Detroit fans probably gonna hate this trade. Tuomisto being a high 2nd round pick. So was Pettersson though; 38th overall.
And Ya, I understand. I remember you all drooling over Tuomisto and his size after the draft. Even though, he was mostly ranked and seen as a 3rd-4th round pick.
Pens system is just lacking RHD prospects badly. I wouldn’t mind a 3rd round pick but would prefer a prospect and a 5th or 6th. And Tuomisto hasn’t been great in college. Seems like a good two way, penalty killing D-man. Probably a No.4 or 5 NHL D-man that kills penalties.
Pettersson is still just 26 years old and signed next season plus two more. At 4.025M per. Basically 4M per(plus 25K..lol). With what quality NHL D-man are getting paid now-a-days, it’s a good contract.
Chariot/Moritz and Pettersson/Hronek would make good parings right now until Edvinsson comes along. Pettersson’s stay at home and puck moving abilities compliment Hronek well. Maatta moves to 3rd pairing LHD.

Hextall said he is sure that they will get something done with restricted free agent Kasperi Kapanen. “We’re pretty comfortable with the range that we believe we’ll be in (cap-wise)."

As much as I’d love to have Puljujarvi and I like your ideas and ACGM’s, I really want to see POJ as a Pen for a long time.
I think he’s a future 1st pairing D-man that can play 22-25 minutes a night in all situations(like he did in the AHL last season).
Imo, especially with Marino gone now, he’s the future 2nd team PP point.
From all reports he’s a super hard worker too and definitely has the talent. And he’s definitely ready for atleast 3rd pairing minutes this season.
If not, both Friedman and Rutta have played LHD and Ruhwedel can play 3rd pairing RHD. And Ty Smith is there now at LHD too.
Get rid of one of Pettersson/Dumo. Preferably Pettersson. And just b/c Dumo is on an expiring contract and the Pens cap space next season.
Id probably rather Pettersson if contracts were the same. Id rather the cap space next offseason though. And I think Dumo is still a useful D-man. And gonna have a bounce back/better year than last. He was playing through injury.

Marino hasn’t been good the last two seasons. Look at his numbers. Was great his rookie season though. But ya, he’s still a 25 year old RHD that plays 20 plus minutes a night and plays both the PP and PK. And signed long term to a decent contract. The upside is still there.
I like Ty Smith though. I wish they would’ve gotten a 2nd though. I would have been happier with that. Hopefully NJ still stinks and that’s a high 3rd.
I found it weird for NJ. They are loaded at RHD. I guess they plan on trading Severson at some point this season or let him walk if the offseason.
They have Hamilton and Marino both signed long term. Severson is only 28. S.Mukhamadullin 20th overall pick and shouldn’t take long to NHL. 2 more years at most. Nemac was just drafted 4th overall and shouldn’t take long to NHL either. And they got acouple more high upside young RHD.

Funny most people think Leafs fans overvalue Kerfoot and Holl.
Why would any fan want two players that literally every leafs fan for the past 2-3 years on capfriendly want to trade??
And don’t u also find it funny that u said “ I think you overvalue Garland” and then you proceed to insert him on your 2nd Line?

Kerfoot’s contract is solid at 3.5m and he did have his best season last year. I’ll admit that.
I just don’t understand why they think every other fanbase is gonna be clambering for Kerfoot and Holl and when literally for the past 2-3 years every Leafs fan on capfriendly makes an ACGM trading one or both. During the offseason, at the trade deadline, draft time, all year long.
But other fanbases are gonna be ecstatic to trade for them and for their team to give up assets to acquire them??

That would be a huge offload for NYR. And Kerfoot’s contract is not only solid at 3.5M, it’s expiring. NYR are stuck with that contract.
No way Kerfoot brings back a 2nd round pick though. Leafs fans can just stop that noise right now..lol. Connor Brown’s return was a 2nd.
Kerfoot a 3rd; at best. Which would be a great return. Kerfoot had a good season but still not good analytics for a 3C. And his previous two seasons he had point totals in the 20’s.

He wants more. And with so many veteran left-shot defenders, it remains unclear exactly where Sandin immediately fits into a lineup he did not crack in the post-season after rehabbing a knee injury”.

I just want the Pens to sign Milano and Larsson. And move one of Pettersson/Dumo. Preferably Pettersson.
Just because Dumo is on an expiring contract. Still a useful player(just move him to the 2nd pairing) and Dumo and Zucker are the Pens cap space next offseason.
I’d prefer Pettersson but again, I’d rather Dumo’s expiring contract.
Give me a lineup of;
Guentzel - Sid -Rust
Rakell -Geno -Kappy
Milano - Carter -Zucker
Larsson - Blueger - McGinn
Matheson-Letang
Dumoulin- Marino
POJ-Rutta
Friedman-Ruhwedel
And I’d be super happy.

Miler isn’t bringing back that kind of return without an extension. He’s great: had a great season. But he’s a one year rental.
I see Marino and a 1st or Marino and a 2nd. Again, unless he comes with an extension or an agreement to resign.
And Zucker is on an expiring contract. I don’t see the Pens moving him or Dumoulin. They are both useful players and the Pens cap room next offseason. Both are on expiring contracts.
All these Vancouver trades for Miller and Marino, Kappy, a 1st and a 2nd. I just don’t see a one year rental bringing back that kind of return. Even one as good as Miller.
And at the deadline it will be less. Probably a late 1st, a prospect and a mid round pick.
He might though. I’ve definitely been wrong b4. I just don’t see a one year rental getting that kind of return.

Right but just because he’d sign here next season(or might sign here) u don’t pay for that unless u have an agreement b4 the trade.
People don’t understand the value of two NHL players, both 25 years old, one signed long term and one under team control and still a RFA. People think just sign a UFA. It’s not that easy.
1. They have to be interested in the city and team.
2. U have to beat or match every others teams offer.
It’s hard enough to get UFAs to go and sign in Vancouver. Acquiring them in a trade, they obviously have to go.

A 98 defensive ranking on these cards.
Ya, they are gonna have to pay to move a defensive D-man, that’s only 26 years old, signed for this season and 2 more, on a decent contract at 4M per. He’s 6’3, long stick, long reach, plays physical, a plus(+)47 for his career, has playoff experience, moves the puck well(look at his assists every year), and has good analytics. Literally everything NHL GMs look for.
