some GMs, much like Bergevin did, get caught up in size and not actual ability, production, and impact. Teams may have had interest, but I find it very hard to believe that anyone was willing to pony up any significant assets because if so he would already be dealt. Teams either were asking for 50% retention or offering next to nothing, there's no other way Hughes doesn't make a deal
also sure resort to bashing the Leafs instead of the actual issue under debate, the Leafs 1st round exits have no bearing on the very little, if not negative value Anderson holds.

Sandin is quite arguably the best player in this deal. Its between him and Edmunson who is an older rental, Rasmus holds by far the most value of anyone in this deal

dumping an abysmal contract for a solid young player, a recent early 2nd round pick, a 3rd liner (which is what Anderson is), and two more picks. No thank you for Toronto.

Niemela + Leafs 2023 1st + 2nd + Engvall or Holl</div></div>
right, but josh anderson is not quality. Easy pass for Toronto, MTL would be lucky to get out of that contract this easy with this big of a return

Any idea Leaf fans are trading for Garland in the 1st place and getting rid of Engvall? Garland is 5'8" and is owed almost $5 MIL a year for 3 goals with 4 hits and lots of potential whereas Engvall is 6'5" and signed for less than half of that for 3 goals which people are ripping him for. Is Garland a steal? He seems a bit overhyped here. I don't get the love...
Garland played his Major Junoir here and I have followed him ever since so I appreciate his heart but when the going gets tough in the NHL playoffs Garland, Malgin, Robertson and all the other 5'8" players get steamrolled.

Kerfoot hasn’t produced point wise the way I would like for 3.5 M in the cap strapped world. But until a suitable replacement is available, what is he doing wrong? Key piece to look at.
As for Engvall, he is streaky. His hockey IQ just seems to not be there. I wish he would use his size more. He has been playing better as of late so hopefully that trend continues. But I am ok with moving on.
I’m glad the Holl vultures are being kept at bay right now. But first bad loss the leafs have you know they will be coming out in full force.</div></div>
Well Holl did have a blunder and didnt look great yesterday but hey hes servicable rn
What people dont get about Kerfoot and Engvall is that they are in the lineup for defense 5 on 5 and 5 on 4. None of those Marlies guys are gonna make an immediate impact. They still got a lot of growing and developing to do. As in general our top 6 is for offense bottom 6 is for defense and pitching a goal every now and again. People act like our bottom 6 should each have 20 goals rn but thats not how they are as they are defensive specialists. Yes Kerfoot should get more offense but lets be honest if he had 3-4 more goals nobody would be complaining rn.

Players Leafs should not trade for
Rare I almost agree with @ Babatunde but I mostly do with this post. Only push back is comment about Toews or Kane or any TDL rental. It will all come down to acquisition cost; who cares what their cap hit is, as long as it fits. We need one impact forward (2W or 3C) imo, so Kane, Toews, O’Reilly, others should all be in the mix

Well until someone plays better, he stays. I actually think Robertson has looked fine with his sporadic appearances. But Engvall, and Holmberg have been good lately which cuts into the "spares" opportunities to get into the lineup. Jarnkrok was looking good recently and now he's out for a couple of weeks. There's an opportunity for some winger. Leafs have had few injuries to their forwards this season. I'm sure there will be more and guys on the team get NHL ice time, and maybe even some Marlies will show their NHL value.

You're funny. Just because players have have higher cap, doesn't make them better. Nashville 27m on their six Dman...what a waste.
Holl has been outstanding lately even with the Leafs three best Dmen out due to injury.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>-a single Roni Hirvonen isn't gonna make up the difference between Holl & Fabbro in Nashville's eyes. Just the fact that Fabbro's 6 years younger and should have 2 more years of team control makes him more valuable to Nashville than pending UFA Holl. I think Nashville wouldn't necessarily hang up on you here, but they're gonna want more to close the deal.
-I wonder if Chicago would think about this. Kerfoot isn't super valuable to them, but I think Abruzzese & a 3rd would be in the ballpark for Domi fully retained, so this is just saving them a retention slot for someone else. I don't know if this is the deal, but it feels close. But on the Toronto side - is the difference between Kerfoot & Domi's production going to be worth a prospect & a 3rd to you?</div></div>
The Nashville trade aside, Domi is the wrong player to add to this team. Leafs should be trying to add a 2-way C. Who that might be? Depends on where teams are closer to the TDL.

this is pretty great for Ottawa tbh. You could easily flip one of the picks and another smaller asset for a top 4 defenseman lol
Voit and Minten are lighting it up ands Niemela is basically NHL ready, Kerfoot is just a throw in and two firsts. I get it if it doesnt fit the timeline but the value is incredible

Crazy Trades Just For Fun
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Logan_Ollivier</b></div><div>Says the fanbase trying to trade for Matthews on this site. This is just getting silly. I am not even trying to chirp the team, I think you have some really good pieces and will be a good team in the future, one or two more higher picks and you'll be a really good team in a couple years. Be patient and take the good with the bad, pain now will result in better times down the road. Too often the Sabres franchise has jumped the gun on a rebuild and it's blown up each time. Hopefully this time is different. Good luck and I wish you well. The guy on here trying to argue that Thompson is better than Matthews though is ridiculous.</div></div>
I have never once said Tage is better than Matthews.
I have said that Tage is outproducing Matthews in the past 41 games. Fact.
I have said that Tage has a cap hit of $1.4mm compared to Matthews' $11.64mm. Fact
And I said, all things considered, I would much prefer to have the player making $1.4mm to the player making $11.64mm.
Their production over the past 41 games is basically the same, except one player is making 8.31 times more than the other player. It's simple math.
