Avs 21-22
Good looking lineup. Even if things go really well with the likes of Jost and Bura this year they will still have plenty of space to add a few million to those contracts. 6.5 for Girard might be high and 7.5 for Makar I can see but he would have to come in and be a beast from day 1 (hope that happens though). In any case Joe has done a masterful job of setting this team up for success and cap flexibility for the next decade+.

Avs w D injuries
Don't see a guy who has put up back to back 40 point seasons and fits the 3C role perfectly as a long term fit? Why not? And I would think a lot of our RFAs sign 2 year deals in the 3-4M dollar range.

Avs contender
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Austerity</b></div><div>The team looks great, but if I were the Leafs I'd want some more in return for Nylander. Like, if I'm Dubas, I'm treating Nylander's trade value as what is seen from his first two seasons and his international play (as well as obvious potential) rather than last season.
Given Barrie only has one season on his contract before he hits Free Agency, AJ Greer is a nice piece to add, but I think I'd have to ask for more.
Nylander fits the needs of the Avalanche nicely though, and this is quite obviously a contender team.</div></div>
How can you not take into consideration what Nylander did last year and not have it affect his value? I don't think it has impacted his value significantly but it would be silly to just forget about a whole season where he held out and didn't play the whole time. And when he did play he didn't put up the points he's accustomed to.

2020 Stanley Cup Champions Colorado Avalanche
If Kaut gets NHL time this year I doubt it's on the 2nd line. Too much $ and term for Z and not enough $ for Kerfoot. I personally like Kerfoot. He has put up back to back 40 point seasons, only issue is he doesn't shoot enough. Probably going to have to pay more for Panarin if they want to pry him from Florida, even then it's unlikely. I like the idea of trading Barrie, but it's not the only way they make a splash this offseason. Just too much value there for Barrie to not trade him and bring a top 6 forward in. Looks like there is a decent chance at Nyquist or Zuccarello.

Next season
Yeah that's pretty low on the Rantanen and Panarin contract. Doubt that Vegas trades Karlsson at this point with the reports of him signing that really good extension for eight years. Also doubt Zadorov signs for 6 years and there's no reason to bring back Bourque or sign Ward.

It will be interesting to see how things play out over the next month going into the draft but at the moment I think the Avs pick one of Turcotte, Dach, or Byram. If Turcotte is gone (which I agree I think he goes to the Hawks at 3) I think the Avs go Dach with Byram being a real possibility.

CUP WINNING AVS
1. That's not his game. Landy doesn't need to keep up with the likes of Mack and Makar because he just needs to stand in front of the net and tip in pucks and win battles along the boards and behind the net. He complements the speed of Mack so well by playing his own game, no need for him to try and be what he isn't.
2. Agreed, I think Bowers probably spends another year in the AHL, while I see Kaut and Kamenev going either way. Feel like the latter 2 have a big impact the NHL next year as depth pieces. Kamenev just needs to stay healthy.
3. Yeah he was ghost against San Jose, don't know what happened to him, one of the more consistent guys during the regular season and he didn't do much to help in that series.
4. Don't think they even consider going after Dzingel, and the Compher contract I think is paying him more than what he's worth. I think he signs something like a 3X3. Hope they don't pay him more than 3.5. Hasn't stayed healthy through a full year and is, at best imo, at 20 goal/40 point guy.
5. To get someone like Hayes or Ferland they're probably going to have to give at least 5 years on the deal (and a lot more money), I see what you're saying but just not realistic.

Actually you might have to throw in COL's 1st rounder on top of that to get him.

This is all contingent on EK signing too, if he doesn’t sign then you sign Barrie for sure. And then definitely draft Byram as well.
I think the Avs have to make some sort of plash. They aren’t gonna sign Duchene. Panarin probably won’t sign there. So if you have the ability to sign EK then why not? Unless they wanted to try and offer sheet someone like Point? But even that would be pretty difficult and you would have to give up 4 1st rounders</div></div>
I think the sign is Skinner. I would love to see something like 6X7.5 or 8 for him. If not him then Lee or Hayes could be what we get. EK is great, but they probably go for a forward.

If they let Barrie walk that would be a HUGE mistake. They either have to resign him or trade him. No way you can let a guy like that just walk out. Too much value there to do nothing with it. I think Byram would be a great pick, but again I see zero motive to sign Karlsson if that is the pick. Even if that isn't the pick I can't see them making a strong move for him, too many good, young D men.

Eh, idk about this. Only has 1 year left on his contract, and not really someone that would help out the top 6 for the Avs. I don't think the trade is bad, I just don't really like Namestnikov very much. I see the Avs keeping the 16th pick and if it they do decide to move it it would be in a deal involving Barrie for a top 6 forward.

Reasonable Karlsson Attempt
Is that a reasonable Karlsson contract? I have a hard time thinking he gets signed for more than 10.5M. Seems like he should get something like 9 or 9.5 but the UFA market I'm sure will get him more than he deserves. Injuries are becoming an issue even though he can still be an absolute stud. Also is Anaheim the team to sign him? Feel like they have a lot more problems to worry about than trying to make a big splash in free agency to try and fix everything.

I actually think that's a bit of an overpayment on EK. Injuries are becoming an issue with him, but he is obviously still a stud defensemen. Something like 7X9 is what I can see someone paying him, but he'll probably get overpaid since that's what the UFA market does. If the Avs pick Byram, what is the point of signing EK? They would have Zadorov, Makar, Girard, Byram, Cole, Johnson, Timmins, Barrie to build around in the D core. Drafting a center 4th overall and signing a top 6 forward (I like the Hayes signing, not totally sure what his contract could look like though) makes the most sense. If they do take Byram 4th (I have no problem with that) then I think they have some deal in place with Barrie to bring in a forward via a trade rather than signing one. Also if Mikko does sign for 8 years (don't think he will) it will be for more than 10M. Also I'm assuming Spencer Knight is being taken with the 16th pick here, that is probably a bit of a stretch.

Why rush/ruin Dachs development when we already have Kamanev and we need to play him to determine WTF he actually is as a player.</div></div>
If that Mikko contract gets signed Sakic will be the greatest GM ever. Almost no way he gets 8 years without paying him at least 10M. Those Kerfoot/Compher contracts I can see. As far as Dach, he's a 4th overall pick, if he has that kind of talent there's no reason he wouldn't be able to make that jump next year without rushing his development. Starting him in the AHL would be a fine idea, I can just see him making the jump while giving Kamenev some time with the Eagles to get his legs back and get some games under his belt again.

Expansion Draft Prep - Part 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>moli92</b></div><div>The Kerfoot and Compher signings are pretty interchangable. One was paid more for longer term and will end up as a UFA, while one was paid a bit less for short term and will end up as an RFA. I doesnt really matter which one signs long term or short term to me, as long as their contracts are staggered so we dont have to sign them all in the same year along with Makar, Landeskog, Grubauer, Zadorov, etc.
Yes that would free up 3M but it is also a huge downgrade from Panarin to Skinner. Not worth it imo</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>McRanteskog</b></div><div>Compher > Kerfoot everyday.
If the Avs get Skinner at 8mil instead of Panarin at 10mil + you pay Mikko 9mil not 10mil, that frees up 3mil in cap space alone.</div></div>
I have a hard time seeing Compher>Kerfoot. Compher hasn't stayed healthy in either of his "full" seasons while kerfoot has stayed healthy and has put up back to back 40 point seasons. They both are non factors too often for long stretches but if they both put it together for a whole season Kerfoot is a 50 point center while Compher is probably a 20 goal, 40 point winger. I think most teams would take the center in that scenario.
I also think that Panarin contract is not going to happen. Going to be betting against teams like Florida and the Rangers which is gonna drive the price up to 11M+. Skinner isn't the playmaker Panarin is but if you get Skinner on a line with Rantanen and put him on the PP2 with Girard/Makar I could see him getting 50 goals. So not a huge downgrade and it will come for 3M less than Panarin. If the Avs can get him for 10M, I would be all for it but I doubt that contract is less than 11M.

I agree with the Wilson signing at that term/amount.
I would rather have Cozens > Dach but whoever it is, they go to the AHL for at least a year and Kamanev is the starting #4C.</div></div>
What do you think on Mikko if he signs for 5 years? I don't think that contract is less than 9 mil, and any more than 5 years and you're probably looking at more than 10 mil. I'm not totally sure what a Skinner contract would look like but you're pretty much paying him to put the puck in the net 40 (50?) times. If Compher gets paid anything more than 3.5 I think they're overpaying, he put up a career high with 32 points this year (granted he missed time but he does disappear for long stretches like Kerfoot and Jost do too often). Kamenev is tough for me because I think he is a bottom 6 center for the Avs when he's healthy but he hasn't played pretty much at all these past two years so I think he would start in the AHL just to get going, but I definitely could see him being the 4C on opening night. Dach just feels like one of those guys who could make the jump next year.
