He may be on the verge of a breakout season, but he hasn’t done it yet. He’s not un-tradeable either. Especially for Eichel. If Kakko isn’t in the deal, I can’t imagine the Sabres even considering a deal with the rangers. They’ll need to outbid every west coast team.

You just said that keeping Eichel is ridiculous.

That’s fine. But the Sabres believe he is and should absolutely ask for a return from a divisional rival that is worthy of that. This isn’t about being fair or realistic. It’s about the Sabres not wanting Eichel in the division unless it’s an absolute haul

I’m pretty sure he is a top 5 center. Also, nothing about an Eichel trade to a division rival has to be realistic. Divisional rivals will need to overpay.

Olofsson is an RFA, so saying that there’s no way he stays with the Sabres is really misleading. If he was a UFA, different story.
That said, I don’t think Olofsson is the player you think he is. He’s a PP specialist and is a horrible 5v5 player. You don’t want him on your top 2 lines.

Jack Eichel to CBJ Sleeper Trade
I don’t the think the Sabres would be interested in marchenko. They have no scouts in Russia, no Russian players on the roster, and not 1 Russian prospect in the system. They’ve been staying away. I’m guessing to avoid the kaprizov situation.

That’s exactly the point. In my opinion, this is lower than eichel’s worth, but probably a little higher than what most would want to pay right now. Hence, a solid offer for the Sabres to consider

Are you confusing value with leverage and what teams may offer to take advantage of that leverage? Two different things.

Could this work
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tryger</b></div><div>Not disagreeing, who doesn't want a superstar? I also think the Kings and Sabres would make great trade partners, the issue is that the Kings have a lot more areas of concern and they can't put all their chips on one guy once the free agency/trading period opens, Blake has been trying for Eichel for two years, if he can't get it done, he needs to address the real areas of concern for the Kings (top-line LD and top-line winger). That's my two cents.</div></div>
The Kings/Eichel thing always confuses me. I never really buy it as a fit.

Could this work
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tryger</b></div><div>I think the issue now is Eichel will likely take the surgery, and no trade will occur until he has recovered from said surgery. I think the Kings can't afford to wait through free agency for a chance at Eichel, and they will use their assets to get a top LD or sign a free agent winger.</div></div>
I think the recovery time for the surgery he wants is very quick.
Honestly, I think every team should want Eichel. If his value truly is down, I’d buy low, let him get the surgery, roll the dice that he comes back at an MVP caliber, and then flip him at the deadline

Eichel is not getting traded within the division for that kind of an offer. It would need to be a severe overpayment.

Except the Sabres had no power over hall. They weren’t going to sit on hall. They can absolutely sit on Eichel and I doubt Eichel will refuse all trades for 5 years.

Trade the d corps, regardless. Forwards drive offense anyway, not dmen. Trade dumba for a couple forwards. I’m not saying in addition to an Eichel trade. Forget Eichel. I don’t wanna trade him to MN anyway. In general, trade Dumba. Try to add depth that way.

The situation can get worse than it is. Once his nmc kicks in it just makes it that much harder. Similar situation that Buffalo was in with taylor hall where the return wasn’t great.</div></div>
But different in that hall was a UFA and Eichel has five more years left on his deal.

This is an interesting idea. I assume you have the Sabres taking Power at 1. This would give them flexibility to trade Eichel for the best offer and not need to get a center in return for him.
I’ll be honest, this trade makes way more sense to me from a kings standpoint than an Eichel trade. I just don’t see why they’d want him right now. They’re not there.

They become a 1 scoring line team, 1 shutdown line (low end 2nd line/high end 3rd line), an okay 4th line and an AHL quality line. Eichel is good for a PPG, maybe hits 100p if he can stay healthy (which he hasn't yet). As soon as he gets hurt MN's season is over. They basically become a version of the 17/18 Sabres with a better d-corps.</div></div>
We could go back and forth all day. I understand why you wouldn’t wanna do it, but trust me. You’d win that trade long term. I understand it creates holes, so maybe it’s not a fit.
