I purposefully did not say that it's not fair value, because who the hell knows anymore. If this trade did go down, I'd feel like Philly fans after the Risto trade though.

leafs arent dealing amirov on top of a 1st for a 26 year old with a career high 48 points who just came off a serious injury, makes no sense. youre overvaluing bertuzzi

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CMcAvoy73</b></div><div>Or, carefully consider trading marner, to try to seek the best roster construction for the next three years when you know Matthews will be there.</div></div>
With Kerfoot gone to Seattle or trade; moving Rielly; not resigning Hyman or Andersen; the Leafs could have around 20mil to work with next year to change this roster and build around the core 4. That’s more of than enough to make a significant change

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CMcAvoy73</b></div><div>Normally i would agree. In a high variance sport, it’s never worth overreacting to one season.
But, this isn’t one season. It’s the same thing year after year after year.
I don’t think this core is capable of winning.</div></div>
I mean:
Matthews 23
Marner 24
Nylander 25
I’m not ready yet to give up one of these guys yet. If I could wish JT’s contract off this team I would, but they can’t so continue to build around the top 4.

Realistic Pens Leafs McCann Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MauriceArthur15</b></div><div>I 100% agree with that but I think the reason Hextall was hired was to close out the Crosby-Malkin era and start the new era of Pittsburgh hockey. I think rn futures are important especially for Pittsburgh to start to replenish the pool a little.
Toronto is good in terms of our prospects we drafted well enough the past 3 drafts to not worry about picks, which why Kyle Dubas was trading them like nothing lol.</div></div>
See I agree somewhat. But if u can tank right. No need..lol.
Get 3-4 seasons of top 3-5 picks and you should be right back, with one of the best young systems in the NHL. Just like LA kings did.
No .500 seasons or just missed the play-offs and drafting in that 8-18 range. It’s death. It’s where all the mistakes/bust are made/happen. You do not want to be drafting in the range.
You never know who will fall or who will be available. U have too many options of players to take. You have to reach if u want a player and don’t think he will be there in the 2nd round. U want a top 3-5 pick. Obviously.
If u are rebuilding. Then F-ing Tank. Like really tank.
Trade off all your assets for picks too(not prospects), hire a stop gap coach and just be horrible for the next 3-5 seasons. Get all those early 1st and early 2nd round players. It will be worth it if u do it right.

So Nolan Patrick doesnt want to come back to Philly huh
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MauriceArthur15</b></div><div>Yea fair but also compared to the NBA or other leagues we hardly hear players formally come out to the public asking for a trade. It's far more rare than in the NHL compared to the other big leagues. Like Jack Eichel hasn't formally came out and request a trade as yet but we all know he wants out.
Again not defending the move just saying my personal observations from watching the NHL for 15+ yrs and reading articles like these for similar amount of time.</div></div>
Fair enough!!
I just see a lot of it on here. Like Tkachuk wants out of Calgary.
Where and when did it ever say that?? It came from an “idea” a Calgary beat-writer had. Saying that Calgary should really think about/consider trading him.
And every teams click bait writers wrote an article, saying their team should go after Tkachuk if he’s available. Referencing that article.
No quotes from the organization or from that player or any player or that players representation. No inside source reference. No reference to an NHL insiders article. Just one writers “idea”. Nothing more.

All around strong team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MauriceArthur15</b></div><div>Ok my bad I misunderstood. Is Marcus Petterson that bad or is just overpaid?</div></div>
He is just slightly overpaid, but the bigger issue is that the Pens have to move out 2 of Zucker, Matheson and Petterson without much money coming back in, just in order to fit Marino's new contract in and any of the RFA's or UFA's that the Pens may want to keep. They currently have about $25M spent on 5 D. About $4M for each of Dumo, Petts and Matheson all on the left. Not to mention that POJ should be on the team next year, his ELC is very valuable to the team.

A Different Approach
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tryger</b></div><div>Kings offer two 2nd rounders for Reily, if that doesn't work they can try and get him next season. A 1st rounder and the main piece in the Toffoli trade for a rental is bad asset management.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MauriceArthur15</b></div><div>That's not Rielly value however. It been said by insiders that his value is a 1st and a prospect. Also the major piece coming back in that trade was the 2nd rounder, which LA used to trade up and select Brock Faber.</div></div>
Rielly to LA starts with Vilardi. Kings can have a year to talk about an extension with him or can sign him as part of the deal. But Toronto needs players to help them win now, not picks or prospects. Specifically they need right handed centre's that have some upside to maybe be a 2C when Tavares moves to the wing or Matthews leaves via free agency. Vilardi fits that. You don't get a top pairing defenceman for cheap. & if you wanna argue that he's "a rental" well a) you have a year to sign him and b) look at the price that Jones is rumoured to be going for. They don't come cheap. Don't low ball teams with "2 2nds" and think that even gets a consideration.

What a time to Be-Leaf
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MauriceArthur15</b></div><div>If you guys are that bad next that will cost Rob Blake, Luc Robitalle and Todd Mcellan their jobs. The pacific is projected to be the weakest division next year. Like I’ve said multiple times now is the time LA makes a move. Whether is a Rielly or whoever now is the time. You can’t wait 3 years for your rookies to develop when you have Doughty and Kopitar still under their contracts and we don’t know where they would be in 3 years.
You have to be aggressive this offseason all all the pieces are there. Plus the pick is top 10 protected meaning even if y’all by chance missed the playoffs and won the lottery the pick doesn’t belong to Toronto.</div></div>
From the Kings perspective I like the offer. I would do something similar to what we worked out on the Clifford trade. If Rielly doesn’t resign the pick becomes a 2nd rounder.

Garland would want a bigger raise... probably around $1M more than Dvorak makes rn (which TOR cant afford).
I think you could invest the money a little better in your post
- Cut goodrow's salary down to $2.2M
- Cut McCabe's salary down to $3M
- With the cap savings from two above suggestions, Get a better 3C, like Cizikas.

Oh I'm not knocking the value. I agree that Reilly should fetch that kind of return. A bit too much for Dallas to give up knowing that he either forces someone out next season (assuming he signs an extension) or that he's only a 1-year rental (if he doesn't sign an extension). Value is fair; just doesn't really fit with where Dallas is right now.
