Melynk and his staff certainly did spend....at least in the cap sense for the past number of years. That's one of the problems the Sens have, they are near the cap and not a playoff team.
The hasten the process of trading for DeBrincat and Chychrun costs the Sens good picks. Then the forfeiting of the first rounder doesn't help either.
Not long ago, you could have argued the Sens, Habs, Sabres and Wings were right in contention to be true contenders in the Atlantic for second half this decade. Now the Sens seemed to appear to be # 4 in that seeding, and still have to pass some of the current top four in the Atlantic.

Chychrun to Toronto
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MitchJr</b></div><div>Love Ottawa the city - think most nhlers would enjoy their time there. But:
1/ no chance Marner waives for SENs (seven straight playoff misses & counting; 2nd rate organization up to now - maybe Staios changes it 🤷🏻)
2/ no chance Leafs trade him in division
3/ that return is embarrassing; adding Liljegren makes it truly preposterous- maybe you’re just trolling Leafs fans 🤡</div></div>

Chychrun to Toronto
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafsfan98</b></div><div>Chychrun's a solid number 2, use the cap relief to sign Pesce and you have:
Rielly-Pesce
Chychrun-Lilly
Benoit-McCabe
While still having 2 1sts to use in the draft, 2 2nds round picks to use and Ostapchuk</div></div>
I am not sure Chychrun is much better than McCabe. He's not better defensively, and his offense isn't enough to warrant spending big to get him. Pesce is massively overrated as well. We can already sign Roy or Pesce this off season and it's pretty clear our depth is not bad. I don't really care if Bertuzzi comes back or not. He's going to ask for too much. I hope Domi signs a 4 year deal at 3.5-4 per season but really we have reinforcements coming and can afford Marner. The year after we are laughing

Rather have the 22 year old centre with another year in elc coming off 21 goal season than a 26 year old mid level 2nd pairing LHD with one year left before FA</div></div>
Just to add, LHD are relatively easy to find. I'd keep a centre

Lol Cowan is worth a lot more than an aging 6 million dollar goalie who hasn't been great for 2 straight seasons. Considering your response on the rest, it's clear you have a major bias against the Leafs.

Dallas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Logicalicesports</b></div><div>LMFAO look at it from the Dallas point of view. You would be trading a kid that is closing in on being a ppg player before he is 21 and yet you want to trade him for a guy that is 6 years older who by all means is a star player but you are killing the competitive window and losing a 1st.
Easier description for your noggin. Young good player on team that has good young core should not be traded for a star that will be out of his prime in two years.
Not only that but he is their leading point producer and forward ice time leader in the playoffs at 20!</div></div>
From Dallas's point of view they lose a good young player who may be a PPG guy for a top 3 player in the world who is 26. This site is embarrassing

Marner
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MitchJr</b></div><div>I don’t see how you think the timelines align. Ducks are ~ 3 years from realistically competing & Marner is in his prime now. I think the Ducks would be better to sign short term vet FAs, take their lumps and let promising young core develop. Maybe a few years from now - make a big trade but seems too early to me</div></div>
if they get him with an 8 year extension, while having a year left, then 3 years from now they'll have 6 years left of Marner, as he's 29-30 years old, which is a bit older than you'd like but guys like Marner aren't available often and getting him still in his prime most likely for a few years when they're competitive could be worthwhile

Oilers won't do that. Even if they know they're going to lose him in 2025 they shouldn't throw away a year where they could genuinely win the Stanley Cup unless someone blows them out of the water with an absurd offer

That’s very fair, I will say those two years our defense was a black hole, but 21 he was good, just hung out to dry at least once a game usually more

The Leaf don't or need a 4m goalie especially Elvis. There are better cheaper goalies as UFAs.
Why would Marner waive to Coyotes especially in contract year.?
