If that's not making players around him better...but it's not even the funniest thing. "<em>Habs fans guaranteed everyone that the lowest goal total Caufield would ever see was 50 goals... and look how that went.</em>" For months he kept saying how Dubois was untouchable, was going to sign long term in WPG and the 1st overall pick wasn't even close for Dubois, guess not everyone can't be right! What does it say when I am pointing out why the Habs would never in a million years move Suzuki, Caufueld or Slafs for Dubois when I am a Leafs fan?

PRICE TO RETIRE AT END OF SEASON TRADE FOR DUBOIS PLUS HOFFMAN TO ANAHEIM

What people don't realize, is that Dvorak could end up being as good or better than Dubois.
Dubois only has 50 more points while playing 3 more games than Dvorak in his career. That's negligible considering the difference in deployment.
They are very comparable players in terms of impact while playing different roles. Any additional pieces in a trade are simply to bridge any gap in perceived value.
If you don't want Dvorak and would prefer a more pick/prospect heavy package, that's fine, but if Dvorak is included, a 1st and middling prospect is at least sufficient to cover a difference which may not even exist. Dvorak could have easily put up 60 points in Dubois' role this season while winning more faceoffs and taking less penalties. The difference between them isn't a top prospect and an unprotected 1st.

I think that if in 2 years PLD is available and played well and we have the cap room... It's almost impossible for the habs not to get him.
Especially if he is vocal about playing here.</div></div>
Can Yes
Should No
Galchenyuk we did that with
Kotkanemi we did that with
How did it work out for Marc Bergavin longterm?
I dont see Kent Hughes as being that Oblivious
Everything he's dont to date suggest's he'll develop players as needed.
Slavkovsky for example he said will play pro whether its at the NHL or AHL level
He's not doing what MB did with Chucky and Kotkanemi
If we needed it for this roster 2023-24 deffinately Joshua Roy will be coming off his 2nd QMJHL scoring title IMO and 5th in QMJHL's long history to do it back to back.(Garland/Crosby in this Millenium)
He's a Dynamic and Skilled forward who if he continue's to grow will be one of the top skilled skaters if nothing else in the NHL(like Byron on Barry Bond's Steriods lol)
Riley Kidney will have 1 year in laval at this point
Think of him as a Maritimer version of Gallagher with Size (2 inches more lol)
He's a responsible Center though isntead of a netfront battler like Gally
He's opted out of his last year in Junior to Turn Pro as he and Mysak will lead Laval's top 6
Beyond that is more of a long shot's of Sean Farrel and Oliver Kappen who's are unlikely but close with Owen Beck likely turning AHL pro that following year
They're all Waiver Eligible options and able to move freely as required.
As for PLD you're right
If he wants the money MTL will write the check
Hughes team seems to focus on a lot of size coupled with speed and skill

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Nake_qc</b></div><div>I also like Fantili quite a bit, but not over Bedard.
I don't think we will get in the top 3 picks this year, more likely in the 4 to 7 position.
Am curious of where you would play in this lineup , let's say a top 7 pick if he makes the team for next year.</div></div>
You mean like if we had 7OA instead of 3OA ?
If that's the case it would deffinetly change things a bit for us as we'd take Carlsson or Yager IMO
That would probably allow us to look harder at UFA's the next season whether internal or external
Fantilli i had assumed would have stayed in NCAA 2 years more which woulda brought him in when Evans was going out
I think Carlsson and Yager would require an extra year atleast and even then im not as sure they'd replace Evans on third
This makes MTL look at re-signing either Faksa or Evans to a 1 year deal to play until they can emerge from the AHL to NHL
Only Bedard i could see possibly being ready to walk in straight out the draft and line up in this roster
If we got him by some miracle then i'd probably slot him in where Pitlick is and if that works i wouldnt look at PLD at all .
I'd thank my lucky stars and be greatful to put Bedard and Dach in a situation where they can grow together as Centers
Sharing the role until 1 of the 2 outright make a case to take it full time with Anderson on their Wing as a Protector type

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Nake_qc</b></div><div>I think it's far off, especially when we can just be patient 2 more years.
I think waiting till he's a free agent makes more sense.
But I agree with the rest you said.</div></div>
It is far off, Dach has the potential to be PLD at a cheaper cap hit, Dvorak produces at just under PLD's career average. Dubois career average ppg is .66 equating to 54 points per season. Dvorak's career ppg is .50 which equates to 41 points per season. So now you have 2 middle 6 centers with one who is young enough to still become PLD's equal but the total points differential going to the Jets is more than the points lost from PLD as Dvorak produces about 40 points per year and Dach produces about 25 points per season which equals 65 points per season and since PLD's career high is only 61 points the total production and potential increase heavily favours the Jets. Add to that that we give up a top 4 RHD and a 1st and a 4th, yeah that is a massive overpayment!!!

Montreal Going for the Cup
This team is still not enough for a cup. With a few years Suzuki, Caufield and Slafkovsky maybe. But next year makes no sense, you are giving up the possibility of being successful over a span of multiple years, to "go for it" for one single year. Best thing to do is get another high draft pick and let the young guys gain experience in this league and develop the depth.
Look at the past 10 or so stanley cup champions. How did they win? They won with players they drafted, while adding temporary depth/support players at the trade deadline. You don't win cups with UFA signings. Don't give away future, best to bet on your development capabilities than to trade for overpaid players like Seth Jones, who has a full NMC and I am sure we won't want to come to Canada.
Price isn't even guaranteed to be able to finish out his contract. It's really not worth it.
Just be patient wait one more year, be excited for the young players, hope for their success. If you want to watch a team going for the playoffs, I suggest being a fan of the Laval Rocket for a little, they should stack that team and surround their young prospects like Roy, Mysak, Slafkovsky*, Mesar*, RHP, Norlinder, Guhle, Barron, etc. with good players for them to learn and develop properly.
It takes time to build a sustainable championship caliber team. You don't want to rush it. Look at teams that have rushed it, like:
- Toronto, Tavares was a UFA signing that pushed their window open and where are they now?
[some] Teams are now learning that you need to develop. Let others pay for terrible contracts.
Also, if you don't want to wait time, just look at the Atlantic division, every team is now stacked, even Buffalo got better. Habs are not in anyway making the playoffs. Best to just let the young guys play and have no expectations.

No one likes being the old man in the room with the worst contract. I'm sure Gallagher would not stand in the way of a trade if he knew he was no longer considered integral to the team's plans. Also, it's only a 6-team NTC, so there's presumably 25 other possibilities to work with.

I think what ends up happening is that the Jets will hold onto Dubois until the 2023 TDL (if out of the playoffs) or 2023 offseason and get their first and a prospect (quality depends if it is one or two playoff runs and if Dubois has another good season with Connor) to whichever team wants him. Then in the summer of 2024 Dubois goes to MTL, which will be his fourth team since 2021.
