OTT is wondering why it's not making the playoffs having drafted top of the draft for years now and having a good solid young core.
I don't think they are in the collect 1st for cap dump phase anymore bro.
Try CHI they may take you up on that. Or SJS

With Kulak, I think he's been a solid defensive 3rd pairing guy for a while. I'd like to get a better 3LD than Joseph, Shea, or Ludvig. Kulak fills that role, and isn't all that expensive of an acquisition. And good luck getting Graves in the AHL.

I know Campbell wears a mean ball cap on the bench in the AHL but its going to be more then a low 20's pick to dump him. Add a good prospect

Gotta trade or buyout Campbell. No other option. Desharnais will want more than 1 year after his good season. Higher av too.

Also, I don’t like that goalie tandem - too inexperienced. If Skinner struggles and Roddy isn’t ready for prime time we’re sunk.</div></div>
There's plenty of cap space to re-sign Calvin Pickard in this scenario if that's what the management wants to do. It's just that Rodrigue is waiver eligible next season, and the organization seems to be pretty high on him

Younger next year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>$1.75M for Carrier is too much, not sure why you're so enthusiastic about that signing.
And if Durzi is worth only $4-5M x 5, he sure isn't worth Kulak + two 1sts. That's more than Edmonton paid for Ekholm, for goodness sake.
And Ceci is worth more than a 5th.</div></div>
Carrier is one of the rare bottom-6 forwards that consistently contributes to outchancing and outscoring while also being a physical, forechecking presence. He's a wonderfully effective player. Would be a great player for either or both of Lavoie and Hamblin to play with/learn from and would be entirely worth a 1.75mil cap hit for a couple years.
Durzi is probably worth between 5.25 and 5.75mil on that term. As for the picks, you're willfully misrepresenting the return as the author's trade includes picks coming back. So it's Kulak and 3 total rounds of trade-ups for Durzi. The return for Ekholm was FAR more than that.
A 5th as a return for Ceci is plenty reasonable in my eyes. He's not the cap dump some people make him out to be but whatever his trade value is will be hurt by the fact that, if EDM doesn't win the Cup, there'll be pressure to upgrade at that position in particular.

Younger next year
Overall a solid AGM! I'm particularly keen on your choice of Carrier, your line combos, and your overall goal of getting younger. That being said, there are a few things I'd change:
1.) I'd say you're overpaying Debrusk (~400k), Pickard (~600k), Holloway (~600k), Desharnais (~500k), & Lavoie (~200k) given the context of the term you've offered each of them
2.) I'd say you're underpaying Durzi by around 1mil and don't think SLC will make him available, at least not for that. I'd also rather use that money to target A. Carrier in UFA
3.) I don't imagine Broberg agrees to a 3-year deal and as such would likely end up on a similar deal to the one I proposed Holloway gets (900k * 2yrs). Saves another 400k
4.) That factors out to ~2.7mil in what I'd deem overpayments. For the sake of argument, I'll grant you either the Durzi acq. as listed or that Carrier (or similar) would cost ~4.25mil
Using those savings, I'd prioritise dressing at least a 22-man roster by adding 2 FAs (ideally below age 30), swapping Carrick out for Laczynski, and maybe finding an upgrade on Fischer. I wouldn't be surprised if Hamblin ended up back in EDM next year, either.

Shedding some cap in the offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rob32sjsharks</b></div><div>Sharks have no use for Ceci unless they can’t find a better top 4 RD in FA. So that deal isn't likely but someone will trade for him at that value.
Picking up Demello is smart to eat some of those tougher min freeing up Bouchard for more offensive situations, and he’s likely cheaper than Roy or Pesce. All in all not a bad lineup and thought process here.
My only argument is it would be nice to move Kulak, give Broberg a legit shot and have a little cap room say 1-1.15 mil for injuries.</div></div>
Is it bad that I was thinking — how can the sharks get the contract more in the $2 to $2.5 million range so he could be a flip?
I really don’t know what we (sharks) are going to do in Defense. We need help now to help with development, but more vets take up spots for younger players. We need to find a way to trade cap dumps —- Vlasic for cap dump forward. Those no trade moves are going to make that hard.
Having Ceci and Rutta gives you two RD on UFA to trade. We do have 2 4th, 6th, and 7th in 2025 to pay off a banker teams to help move some of these low return trade pieces.

EDM is so much better of just keeping Broberg if the return is in the late-2nd to 3rd range.

Bringing in proven winners
That Parayko trade is a fast track to an early rebuild. Johnson isn't good, Fischer is meh and Carrier is signing for too cheap, even if he's having a down year, he's still like the best 4th liner in the league. That 2nd/3rd pair is gonna be a serious issue, I think there's better/cheaper trade options out there too, without trading Broberg or Kulak.

What ya think
Oh man I'm giving you a warning cause you seem to have good intentions but that Ekblad trade is going to be torn apart. Ceci is essentially a cap dump while Ekblad is a top pairing d-man.
The deal would have to be Ceci/Kulak + 25'1st + 24'2nd + Broberg + Holloway and I still don't know if Florida even considers that

Would you care to back up that hot take with some stats?
He hasn't gotten much time in the NHL due to a historically healthy dcorps in Edmonton during a time when they are chasing a cup, so rookies have been left on the farm. While in the NHL his advanced stats are solid.

DeBrusk has NOT earned that contract.
I would skip Carrier and Fischer and go after guys like Amadio and Sundqvist.
You're trade values aren't bad though. I'd put in Kulak instead of Broberg, he can play top-4 in Calgary immediately and Edmonton could use the cap savings.
Good job overall.

Drai was paid fairly. A perfect offer for what he had done so far while considering him immense potential. I would say the Oilers nailed it with that contract. Drai was happy to sign the “overpay” at the time. He will sign another fair deal. I can guarantee it.

With Canada’s bad taxes and Canadian dollars terrible value, Edmonton would have to make an offer that can match what a lot of American teams can offer post tax.
Tavares didn’t take a discount for his home town that he dreamed of playing for, doubt drai has the same love towards Edmonton.
If Bouchard keeps playing like he has the last 2 years he will get 8.5+ gotta pay premium for RHD</div></div>
Drais not a greedy pig like Matthews though. Mack is more valueable than all 3. I could see Drai 11.5M. His numbers are no longer insane as McD and Drai have committed to run their own lines and not just dummy the league leader boards playing together all the time.

Zero chance Ottawa takes Campbell of your hands. They just got rid of Murray.
If CBJ traded Boone Jenner, for anything less than a haul the city would riot. They love that guy. Kinda like capitals fans love Tom Wilson...or, Calgary and Backlund. Jenner, probably the most though.

Trading Drai
Absolutely fair value for Draisaitl, considering he's arguably a top 3-4 center in the league, but I still say flyers reject based on the direction they are heading in. I could be wrong, but a similar package from a team like Minnesota, Blues, Carolina, etc. would absolutely work.
