The Oilers need a top 4 D upgrade more than a top 6F upgrade, I would go as far as to say that they need a top 6 D upgrade more than they need a top 6F upgrade.

Good chance that Korpisalo is unavailable to the Oilers or any team (unless they are providing an upgrade over him). The trade really does nothing but hurt OTT so they obviously decline.

I doubt Ottawa is going to throw their season away after only 16 games, and they’re 8-8

Although a first in 2026 is enticing! (sarcasm)

Broberg and Savoie have very little value and do nothing for Ottawa

Zero chance Ottawa takes Campbell of your hands. They just got rid of Murray.

If CBJ traded Boone Jenner, for anything less than a haul the city would riot. They love that guy. Kinda like capitals fans love Tom Wilson...or, Calgary and Backlund. Jenner, probably the most though.

The 1st is what pays for dumping Campbell.

So, the trade is basically Broberg + Savoie for Korpisalo.

Ottawa declines.

I think it takes even more than that to dump Campbell.

I've said this elsewhere, and I know they're not on the same continent in terms of caliber of player, but asking Columbus to trade Jenner is like asking the price on Crosby in Pittsburgh. Both are the captain, signed sweetheart deals to stay in the city, and are the current games-played record holders for the franchise. They're worth way more to either team than any other team would sensibly be willing to pay. Columbus laughs and declines, he's just not available at all.

Danforth already signed an extension in Columbus, and for Korpi: teams don't trade players a quarter of the way into the first season of a 5-year deal. Edmonton is better off looking elsewhere for both upgrades.

Two 1sts ?

In any case, Edmonton should just keep him and hope he bounces back next season.

I mean TOR sent a 1st to CAR to burn 1 year of $6M, and CGY did the same, Campbell is 3+ seasons of that almost EDM has to hope he bounces back.

FWIW, Campbell's cap hit after retention for Ottawa is 4 million until 2027 in this trade.

I think a 1st is just compensation for taking that on.

Either way, Ottawa doesn't make this trade.

Campbell is the perfect example of why you should not sign G long term in UFA and why G are worth next to nothing on the trade market, imagine if a team had paid a 1st+ in a trade for Campbell when he was with the leafs, jackpot for the leafs, devesting blow to the acquiring team.

it will cost a 1st+++ just to bump campbell, EDM is screwed here.

Yeah and we really don't want to be stuck with that contract going forward, not matter how much we're paid to do it... because we WANT to compete... and look how much the 5 M$ in dead cap is hard to deal with this season, and that we spent 2nd + 3rd + 4th + 7th to get rid of Murray and Zaitsev contracts...

Adding Campbell just can't happen

Oilers have to target a team that has several rebuild years ahead (Sharks for example)
