If you sign Reinhart to that contract, you will not be able to retain Luke Hughes or Nemec, without trading another major piece... and Mercer will want more long term
But looks good for one year

It's just draft position & expectations in New York. He needs to go somewhere else to get that off his back. He's a solid player and will be appreciated as such with a fresh start.

Everything identified preseason in the "What could go wrong" section has now officially gone wrong. I'm just hoping they get to the finish line without any career ending injuries at this point & we start again next season. The Rock needs a Feng Shui consultant

Once he finds one he likes, Lou is all about his Keepers ... no way he trades Sorokin.

Underrated players

I'm on east coast & would enjoy seeing him more, but alas, nucks are never on national broadcasts. Recent GMs probably sealed their fate with some poor signings. I'd have trouble figuring out how they wiggle free of some of those dogs. Guess rising cap may bail them out in a couple of years, but moves will be difficult from here I suspect. At least it's a beautiful part of the country for Quinn, even if the work leaves something to be desired.

Kinda weird thinking about a Hughes brother being underrated, given the insane hype the other two fellas get, but I guess that's what happens when the puck drops for Quinn when the East Coast is going to sleep. Exposure is everything

Underrated players
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Luguber</b></div><div>A good list in general I would say. There are some players I feel aren't all that underrated anymore but have been in the near past, namely:
Hintz - Widely regarded as a good/great player
Mercer- Have seen many people beeing vocal about him, on here atleast
Hughes - Don't really think he's flying under the radar anymore
Saros - He has been considered to be top 5 or top 10 for years, has he not?
My views on this are however based in large part on what I read on capfriendly forums.</div></div>
Thing about guys like Mercer is that they are just starting their careers. This kid is only 21 with two seasons under his belt ... he's been plenty good, but given the limited impact he has has so far (due to time in league) he gets plenty of kudos/press/respect etc. I always think of underrated guys as players who have been around awhile, flying under the radar for several seasons, but hey, that's just me. We all have different definitions. Hintz was similar until he blew up in 21/22, then we all knew

100% True... I'm just baffled what they do next season. Someone from top 6 or Trouba will need to go, I don't think there's enough money available, even with the cap going up. After being on a value contract all these years, Shesterkin will want top 5 GK money. Lindgren & Schneider, while still RFAs, will get fairly strong raises imo. Kakko wild card ... All Intriguing

Nosek - Backlund - Bastian shut down line?

Metro Division Outlook NJD
Two areas of concerns for NJ outside of the usual goalkeeper issue mentioned:
1) they lost a fair amount of scoring depth (27% of last year's goals walked out the door). Now banking on full year of Meier & Toffoli to make up for it. Mind you Toffoli had a career year last year scoring wise, should see a return to mean.
2) Two of their top two PKs are gone (Graves & Sharangovich). Who takes those minutes? Both were very effective in that role.
Additionally, Replacing Graves & Severson with Hughes & Miller / Nemec is a big loss of experience (Hughes/Nemec) and or skill (Miller). Blueline must be a question mark until proven otherwise.

Seems a bit too many dollars for Laf, he still has much to prove.
What about an offer sheet for 4.2 mil? Only cost Chicago a second if not matched & NY would be stretched with Lindgren, Shesterkin, Kakko & Schneider due for raises, in some cases Big raises, next season

Injury hurt too. Missed over 30 games early when he should have building chemistry with his new teammates. I didn't like the term, maybe one year too long & one mil too much, but I still like the player. It made sense then & still makes sense now. As you say, was huge in playoffs, maybe top performance in game 7 vs Rags ... contract comes off just in time to resign Nico & there is likely a league wide cap raise of $4 mil on the horizon. They will be ok.

Somebody from top line or Trouba is gonna have to go to accommodate Shesterkin. I wonder what they will do

You are probably correct, he's likely more comfortable/ effective on the left. Will be interesting to see how it plays out. If history is our guide, Ruff will be mixing things up quite often anyway.

There are 8 locks in top 9 ... And I suspect, as Tintin says, Holtz is pretty much a sure thing at 3RW ... So that sets up insane competition for the 4th line & final 5 roster spots at forward. McLeod, Bastian, Foote, Clarke, Lazar, Tierney, Nosek. It's going to be fierce.

I think Holtz will be more than ready to contribute in the Devils top 9 for next season.</div></div>
Based on the reported exit interview feedback, it sounds like he will get his shot, for sure ... How he performs & how long of a leash they give him remains to be seen. Management has clearly mapped out their expectations for Holtz & the team, so it looks like he's reached a make or break moment in NJ .... based on interviews & actions, Fitzgerald is not in a waiting mood anymore. Holtz may turn out to be a good pro, but if he doesn't show this year, I suspect he goes to bring in another proven veteran to replace Toffoli next off-season.... Adding him to the line of solid young players like Zacha, Sharangovich who ran out of road in NJ. If they resign Toffoli, and Holtz shows at least some marginal improvement, maybe he sticks around, regardless.... Let's hope he just hits out of the gate, he certainly will be well protected with veterans like Palat & Haula as likely line mates. October is too far away
