Unlikely however good value for all
I know many moving pieces and likely way too much for a Trade deadline trade. We have seen big trades like this before. After hearing the Blackhawks have announced they are entering a rebuild, I feel this proposal helps them since Jones won't survive the rebuild to get another chance to win in his career window in Chicago.
Chicago receives a handful of quality young players, prospects, and a 1st round pick to start their rebuild.
Vancouver gets a #1 center with a contract that improves each year it passes and a quality young winger (Roberston) in the same age group as Pettersson and Hughes.
The Leafs are swinging for the fences, and this is a big shake-up.
Either way its just a bit of fun!

Leafs future goalie

You just highlighted my feelings about this team in this quote alone.
The question now becomes, after 4+years together and not finding a way to pull it together... why would we throw more futures away to apply a bandaid?
Knowing when to attack or when to retreat is the sign of a great general. Can Dubis face facts here?
Painful to admit, this team isn't built for success in today's NHL.
I'm not sure it can be fixed in 2 weeks either.
Matthews and Marner are the best Leaf pairings I have ever seen, so it's not like we have to burn it to the ground, but Tavares is a wrench in the spokes of the Shanna plan. The good thing about Tavares is a wrench is still a tool (free), that it can be converted into a quality Defender without a doubt.

Leafs future goalie
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dutchies</b></div><div>I would. I'm still a big Campbell supporter. He'll get it turned around before the playoffs. We just have to shore up the D and get the bottom 3 F lines figured out.</div></div>
<a href="/users/Dutchies" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Dutchies</a>, I like your attitude towards Campbell. I want to agree with you accept something is growing in my mind.
As we watch this 5 goal against trend lately there are two narratives competing as to where the blame lay. Weak defence vs poor tending. At times this year, our defence was much more effective at clearing the space in front of Jack but as I watch lately all I see is lost position and cheap real estate in front of him.
Is it possible that there is a dressing room battle happening and the defence has quit on Jack?
Before you answer, pay attention to the body language between Jack and the players. What I noticed is that the behaviours (i.e., friendly-taps) have completely changed. Granted losing can be partially responsible, albeit, it is my suspicion that something has created a rift in the locker room that is affecting the team's willingness to play defence in front of Campbell.
What do you think?

Leafs Spend Huge
Title is accurate, but what about the kitchen sink? I don’t watch Chicago these days to know the value of these players but I can’t believe they are worth the price the leafs spend in this proposal. If they were to make this trade I stop watching immediately.

Agree about Niemelä Dutchies, and this tender might be worth a First rounder or he could be another Toskla. Either way would you feel confident with Campbell and Georgiev going into the 2022 playoffs? I would rather make that trade in the off-season.

Good deal or bad deal
I am not a fan of this proposal. I think this young goalie might be better acquired in a offseason. For the leafs going into a playoff with a near 30 year old inconsistent tender back by a new ?mark isn’t a direction leafs fans would be comfortable with.
The price for this unproven goalie is way to high most would agree.

I think the value is right but yes it would hurt Boston's team in the short term. But they have been known to take pivots like this one in history and as a result, they stay relevant.

Your thoughts Leaf fans
As the self-proclaimed GM of the Leaf's, I would not hang up the phone, but this deal isn't in our best interest. First, we need to start protecting our picks. Second, Rakell, Rickard wasn't even on our Radar, and third, the ducks would need to take back a contract and some salary to make this work...I appreciate the salary retention but we will need to unload Holl and maybe now a forward if Rakell was to fit.

Or I suppose maybe not bright enough to come up with anything original or on their own. One of the two, I guess.</div></div>
Yeah, I think they use it because everyone wants to be the king on the hill.
As it stands the Leafs have the second most cup wins throughout history. Unfortunately, I have never seen one of them and I am 48 years old. Therefore, I have no defence against it. Let's face it our team has been very poorly managed since expansion. Any of us that lived through the 80 knows exactly what I mean... in fact what we are seeing now is almost a carbon copy of the 80s. It was in the early 90's that the Gilmour trade launched us into relevance only to be robbed by a missed high stick. I would argue Jamie Macoun was just as important to the early 90's success.
This is the basis of my proposal. Let us learn from the past and get this team on track now before we watch it all fall apart. AGAIN!

Sorry JT it just didnt work out
The Canucks are my second favourite team, so I'm not being Blue-Biased.
I see many upsides to <strong>Vancouver.</strong>
First, this trade solidifies the Center Position 1) Tavares 2) Miller. Canucks become weaker on defence but could now make a serious offer to Klingberg. Holl is a serviceable 6-7 dman at best, and with the salary retention, he becomes an option to bury if need be.
Now for the <strong>buds.</strong>
This spreads out the salary dispersion better over the front and back ends. It strengthens the blue line and slightly weakens the offence. Still, the Chatham native comes closer to home and should be a solid 2nd centerman and hopefully finds chemistry with Nylander and company. JT will not be replaced; he is a career point gamer.
I was so excited when JT signed with us but... logistically since, it has been problematic for the team as a whole.
JT Good luck, please agree to this; BTW., the Island is beautiful. Thanks for everything!

Fleury wins another Cup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>Dermott and Mrazek are worthless to CHI, they're cap dumps. And then you have CHI retaining 25% and giving Toronto an early 2nd... Not happening. There is a big difference between having a bad year and playing behind a bad team. Fleury is having a fantastic year behind a team that has consistently left him out to dry. With how bad CHI has played in front of him, it's an absolute miracle his stats look as good as they do. On a contending team he would be having another Vezina worthy season and easily beats out Campbell for the starting job.</div></div>
It is possible but not assured, if that were the case why did Vegas not keep him?. It is a gamble either way! That said, to say Dermot is a cap dump... well that is a just laugher.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mikearky</b></div><div>Sorry, But Chicago is only getting Dermott and a few spaces in the draft to take on Mrazek contract and giving up a 2nd while retaining. Not nearly good enough</div></div>
A part of me agrees with you. Considering such a poor year, I don't know how much interest Fleury will get. I don't suggest he come in and take the number 1 spot either... that ship has wholes in it and will sink. But as a combination, I believe this will spark Campbell to straighten out his head and play like we know he can. Anyone who thinks Chicago is still going to be competitive is loopy,.. to be frank!
I remember when Chicago couldn't give their seats away... they were that bad. Dermot is a quality young player, maybe not a top-pairing defender, but quality nonetheless. A first-round pick is an excellent start in restocking this team before losing all fan support again. Now the language you use regarding Mrazek is interesting. His contract has term, plus it's not like he is overpaid. In fact, he may not singularly win Chicago any games on his own but for the next 2 years of rebuilding, would you want him to?
So I hear ya mikearky, but I disagree!
