Actual Scoring Depth for 23-24
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>WAY too much for TK, drop a 1st and Morrow.
Compher doesn't help scoring. He's not worth that much. He's 28 and had his best year when he was with MacKinnon. No, he's a 30 point producer. That's an anchor waiting to happen.</div></div>
Disagree on too much for TK. As mentioned in the other comments on the thread, if Flyers were to add retention it's honestly a pretty balanced offer. Maybe too much that we want to pay, but not too much for actual value.
Name an available 3C that will help scoring. Do you want Staal or Compher for a cup run next year?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>Agree on the above, its probably, if hes available, a good enough deal to get Philly's attention. (And Kudos for actually offering Morrow, a solid RD prospect, which PHI lacks)</div></div>
I think Morrow struggled a bit last season his sophomore year at UMASS and with Chatfield, Pesce, Burns there is a logjam at RHD unless they decide not to resign Pesce so it's the best and most feasible prospect to move IMO. Nikishin is our best prospect right now and his contract expires in the KHL the same time Burns contract expires with the Canes so it makes sense for that to be the future at RHD and cash in on a winger for RHD prospect now.
The offer is probably too high and Samsoc22 indicated retention is possible with that deal, which I think balances it out pretty fairly.

Do you take Compher or Staal right now for a cup run next year? Those are essentially your only two options available in FA market for 3C without making a trade. I think with Landeskog going on LTIR next season, Colorado keeps Compher but if that's his projected deal then it's a reasonable 3C offer.

Yeah, probably an overpay but got me thinking after our dialogue regarding TK yesterday. Think with retention this is a fair deal, but probably outside of the realm of what the Canes will do.

I don't think Canes move on from Necas this year btw.

I get it’s hard to win a Stanley cup and you don’t wanna go all in always and shorten your window but man you guys are so close it feels like if you have to overpay to get TK and he helps you take that next step it would be worth it. I haven’t been rooting for Carolina as division rivals but if I had to root for anyone else in the metro or see anyone else from the division do well it would be Carolina.</div></div>
I agree with you. My fear as a Canes fan is that long-term success and deep runs in the playoffs with this mindset is what ownership ultimately would prefer over paying big bucks to win a Stanley Cup one year and miss out on being set up for the future. I fear the goal is a contender for 30 years with no cups, rather than a contender for 10 years with 3 cups. Maybe that works in Toronto, but IDK how long it will work in Raleigh.
Julian BriseBois in Tampa has built a really good team and has obviously been pretty close to dynasty level for the last few years, but that team is going to be in big trouble in about 5-6 years. They have no prospects and no picks to fill up their prospect pool. They're going to get bad and old and have to make some TDL deals on pending UFA's for guys like Stamkos, Kuch, and Point to refill that pool or be very crafty in FA in order to find any more long-term success without a rebuild and I think their owner is cool with that. I don't know if Tom Dundon is cool with that.
Nothing to do with CapFriendly, just some thoughts on the Canes franchise that I'm sure nobody gives af about lol

TK is absolutely a target I think the Canes will be looking at this offseason, players with term and we have tons of cap space. Especially in a week FA class. I think 1st, 3rd, and top-end prospect i.e. Morrow is what it would take to get it done but IDK if GMDW is going to give that up. Don't think we'd be anywhere close to the Detroit fans offers, that's just a result of an organizational mindset that won't hemorrhage the future for one player.
I wouldn't expect the offer to be better than what was rumored to be out there for Timo Meier at the trade deadline and I'd say he was more valuable given his health, production, and RFA status.

These are relatively fair deals across the board, my concern, if I'm Don Sweeney, is that everyone knows they have to dump assets to be able to do anything due to their cap situation. There are going to be a few "fleeces" in there similar to a Pacioretty for Future Considerations type deal. Each deal in a bubble seems okay value-wise, but wouldn't be surprised to see Forbort, Reilly, or Grzelcyk be in that type of deal.
Kings is the perfect destination for Ullmark if that's the route they decide to go.

Spot on. Orlov, Swayman, and Bertuzzi contracts are all laughably low. Orlov got dealt because Caps didn't want to extend him at the number he wanted. Someone else will snatch him up in FA if that's the offer he gets from Boston.
Compher isn't taking a pay cut off his salary last year after having a career points year, he's probably looking for that one last good contract so 5-6 years term, and then maybe you get him sub $3m but I'd say that's unlikely.
The Bruin's future is grim given their cap situation unless guys currently on the roster just get better.

What you say about Teravainen is probably true. Say at the 24' deadline hes worth a 2nd. Whats that worth today? a 3rd. The benefit to the Canes is just as much as it is to Vancouver. He is a decent store of value though I'd agree. I just don't think you can value him to another team at much more than a 3rd.
The only way Van doesn't come away with 2 extra firsts is if they decide not to trade both those guys. Or we're getting high end prospects.</div></div>
Curious to see what happens, thanks for the discussion.
We are also excluding the possibility of a Bruce firing, new coach bump, and Canucks hold at the TDL because they decide they can make a playoff push in classic Canucks style.

If Toews is healthy and scoring, I agree. I think Kane is the big name target but the recent health questions have put the discussion in a difficult situation. Friedman on 32 thoughts proposed a 1 year extension, shut down Kane for the year and pick up the conversation next year. Very curious to see what happens in CHI at the TDL.

If you want Horvat and Kuz your looking at Morrow, Coughlan, 2 1sts and whatever you wanna dump as cap. It could be other things but that is the basic value proposition. Teravainen would be a cap dump in terms of trade value to vancouver.</div></div>
I would be very shocked if the Canucks come away with two 1st rounders at the end of the TDL. Nikishin, Coghlan, 2 1sts and Teuvo I really think is a deal that could get it done. Teuvo can easily net you additional picks next TDL if they are sellers again. And if they aren't sellers, that means Teuvo turned out to be more than just a cap dump.

While I agree that's likely what they want, the question is what they will get and what the Canes will want to give up. This is probably close to the best offer the Canucks get from the Canes and it beats anything the Bruins can offer which has basically zero prospects.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>vikhodush</b></div><div>I like the thought process with those assumptions. I’m hoping Canes do something more than what they normally do for the reasons you laid out. We all know how they’ve operated in the past but situation is different now so maybe approach changes a bit. Couple of things I’d say:
Big factor on Kane outside of injuries is where does he want to go since he has full control. Similar to Giroux deal. Could be good for us if he’s healthy and wants to come here, price likely comes down.
I’d probably look more towards a player with some sort of control but that’s also an impact player over rentals. I think realistically Canes will spend a first or big prospects if it’s somebody with team control like a Meier or Konecny to name a couple.</div></div>
The issue with the Giroux deal is the Flyers didn't tell Florida they were the only realistic destination and could pose it as a bidding war. Blackhawks could do the same, the final destination could be Carolina but Chicago could pose other offers as a bidding war to the Canes even though they'll take whatever is offered in the end.
I'm a big fan of Meier. Same situation as Horvat but a much more physical player IMO. The QO for Meier is what concerns me with his deal.

I'm sure that's the ask. This upcoming draft is very deep that a lot of teams will want to hold on to their firsts. If Canes were given permission to discuss a potential Kuz extension prior to the deal and felt it was a feasible possibility to extend, they may do a first rounder. Pick values may definitely be off in the whole thing.

Back to it
I honestly love this.
While I agree with the sentiment we can carry three goals, I think that's all smoke and mirrors from team management. You need one good goalie in the playoffs, that's it, this 1A, 1B, 1C setup has been what's hurt us in the past. Is it Mrazek or Reimer? Is it Ned or Mrazek? Do we play Kotchetkov or Raanta? The future is Kotchetkov and he should be allowed the opportunity to start until he proves himself not worthy, pick one to back him up and you know going into the playoffs if the young goalie isn't ready for the pressure (which we know he is), then you go back to a veteran. I just don't see how this plays out well i.e. Kooch starting Game 1 of the divisional round and he loses, so we go to Freddie, and he loses, so we go to Raanta. None of that makes sense, we aren't carrying 3 goalie contracts into the playoffs when there are rentals and offensive assets that can elevate our scoring depth.
DW has a good relationship with Zito and I think there is definitely a deal that could get done. May require conditional portions of the deal that can upgrade the trade for FLA as well, i.e. points scored or playoff games played for Duclair. Your point of Noesen vs. Duclair is spot on, Duclair is an absolute improvement over Noesen.
Thanks for letting me use your ACGM thread as a comment section to vent.

This is very true, I agree with that point and think it's definitely feasible to pay someone less. The Canes have very little G depth in the prospect pool, so I think they would err on the side of caution and bring back Freddie and that's likely the number he'll fetch. I could see them bringing back Raanta at a similar term and much lower AAV, but I don't think they want a significant drop off in skill from the backup goalie.
The goalie situation is definitely in flux in CAR right now and the rest of the season will shine more light on how the goalies look next year.

Hurricanes fans HELP
1. Canes will battle with NYR for top spot in the Metro this season, conservatively projected for top 10 record in the NHL but could easily make a run at President's Trophy provided goaltending stays healthy, trade deadline moves if any, and when and how good Patches is when he comes back.
2. PP1 will be Aho-Svech-Teuvo-Jarvis-Burns likely. PP2 will be KK-Stastny-Kase-Necas-Bear/Slavin. Rod changes lines up a lot though so wouldn't be surprised to see Jarvis or Svech switching in and out of PP1 and 2 to give some life to the second PP and put a vet like Stastny or Kase on the first line.
3. This is a make or break year for KK, he'll slot in as 2C and see a significant increase in TOI and hopefully correlated to points production. Necas has a 2 year bridge deal signed, so Canes fans are hopeful he'll have a boost in production from a significantly down year last year. He won't drop in production, just a matter of if he plays better and has a significant increase in production like we would expect of him. Jarvis additionally was a top 5 rookie in points/60 last year so he'll take a step forward likely playing top 6 minutes with a year of experience under his belt. He could easily finish the season top 3 in points for the Canes this year.
4. Don't expect points from the Staal line, ever. Staal, Fast, and likely Martinook/Stastny/Kase will be the grinder/energy line. Any points they create are bonus points in my book, so anyone playing on that line I would not expect elite or even average point production.
5. Anderson will likely play 50-55 games, Raanta will play 20ish, and I would expect 3-5 from Kotchetkov and fill in from other random call-ups for the remaining few games. These numbers are all depending on the health of guys that have shown a tendency to get injured.

Yotes say no. They won't retain the salary on Shayne plus accept the salary dump of Gardiner for Bear, a 2nd, and 3rd. Probably Necas, Bear, Gards, plus two 2nds considering they are giving us essentially $6.3m in cap space. Wouldn't be surprised if the ask is bigger than that tbh, their cap is a valuable commodity right now, and wouldn't be surprised if there are many bidding wars going on behind the scenes that aren't really reported.
