Tavares unmovable so had to be Marner
Marner has demonstrated that he can generate stats in the regular season and routinely disappears in the playoffs. I understand that Leafs fans can't to move on from him and that ludicrous contract, but you'll probably have to retain salary or expect a lesser return. You are certainly not going to get Parayko.
Buddy, I feel for you. We have a similar situation with Torey Krug. He's a serviceable D-man, but he's grossly overpaid and has an NTC (almost as restrictive as Marner's NMC). These GMs, both Dubas and Armstrong, have put their organizations in difficult places.

My friend, you guys don't want Marner with that cap hit, why would you expect anyone else to? Besides, the Blues already have a soft, overpaid, but dazzling, pond hockey player - Kyrou, and that's one too many. Parayko isn't going anywhere. The Leafs could probably move Marner for Buch if they retained salary, not the other way around. Sorry, but Duby soiled the bed with this whole core-4 thing. Good luck.

If TOR is going to move Mitchy, he'll have to waive his NMC and the Leafs will have to retain a chunk of that salary. No team can afford that cap hit for a perennial playoff no-show.

Not at that cap hit.
If Armstrong is serious about moving him, Faulk has to waive his NTC and DA probably has to retain some salary. Not sure that either happens.

Binnington is exceptional. Look at the analytics or simply go with the eye test, he's a stud. I agree, the Blues are desperate for a legit #1 LHD, but Chychrun has yet to demonstrate that he's that guy. Also, I don't think Binner waives his NTC to go to a team that may not make the playoffs.

My friend, I understand why you would like to add two extremely competitive players like Buchnevich and Parayko. I also understand moving on from Marner and that contract. But, no team is going to take on that cap hit for a player that has demonstrated such an utter lack of competitiveness in the playoffs. Well, maybe Chicago, lol! No, the Blues are already saddled with an overpaid Ice Capades darling and don't need another. But, I feel for you guys. Good luck!

If Doug didnt panic after the cup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheEarthmaster</b></div><div>The only time Pietrangelo ever anything remotely resembling that he "wanted" to leave was in the quotes right after he signed with Vegas where was like "yeah when I didn't have a contract four weeks before UFA I began to like the idea of leaving". They had OVER a year to give him another contract before then (extra time they uniquely had because of the COVID pause) and all they did was extend Faulk at market rate, extend Scandella at market rate (when they didn't even know what the cap would be), and dick Pierangelo around on contract structure. I'm not doing revisionist history on what is arguably the biggest reason the Blues' contention window shut.
You would have kept Dunn by exposing Krug, and you probably would have been able to keep both. You almost certainly lose Tarasenko in that case, maybe Walman if Seattle liked his upside.
If you shed three very different styles of defenseman and all three go on to be better on three different teams and the natural reaction is "well they never could have been that here" then you likely have a player development problem.</div></div>
I like what you've done here. I think that id also bring Barbashev back.
With regards to Petro, I believe that you're absolutely correct. Armstrong brought Faulk over within weeks of winning the Cup because he was not going to get a deal done with Petro. The message was loud and clear. There were not enough minutes or dollars to support 3 high end RHD and Parayko wasn't going anywhere. Petro, and his agent, knew they were getting jerked around, got pissed off and left. DA appears to have made a feeble attempt to mend the fence and extend Petro when Faulk had a poor showing in his first year with the Blues. But it was too little, too late.
Giving Dunn away for nothing was utter folly. They should have left Krug unprotected. Seattle was not going to take that terrible contract off your hands anyway.
Nice job.

Paraykos value
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>STLBlues17</b></div><div>I mean I think it makes the most sense for both team and player to trade him. He’s such a zero on offense that he isn’t exactly helping us win, but he’s so good defensively that he would be an amazing piece on a team where others can pick up the slack. Plus I don’t imagine he’ll be any good by the time the blues are in a contention window. He’s worth a lot though, like a Parayko trade would need to be so good that it takes a year off of this rebuild.</div></div>
Hopefully, 55 remains solid through the Blue's rebuild, but I would not be opposed to moving him for younger prospects. On the other hand, I don't see him waiving his NTC.

People just wanna trip.</div></div>
I respectfully disagree. The Blues are going nowhere in the short term so Binner is expendable given the right return. Also, I don't think Binnington's NTC kicks in until next year. A rebuild around Brady makes a lot of sense. Kyrou can be dazzling, but he's not core material and the Blues have a bunch of young forward talent in the pipeline. Kyrou's contract is an albatross. Moving Krug is vital, but moving Leddy could be even more beneficial. Those NTCs will make any deal difficult. The glaring hole in the Blues roster is a #1 LHD. I'm open to suggestions, but I'd try to land either Hannifin or Chychrun, tank hard, then draft another stud D-man. Keep Perunovich for the third pairing and PP. Really like the initial concept, though.

Probably not. I just threw it out there to see what people would say. The Blues are in desperate need of a number one LHD, but the Krug contract is a real albatross. Leddy and Tucker may make sense in the bottom pairing, nothing more. What a frustrating **** show. Scandella is gone at year end.

Bro, the Blues have made it to the conference finals once in the past 50+ years. I'm afraid that your optimism is ill-founded.
Players like Brett Hull, Vladi, and Kyrou sell a lot of jerseys and they make lovely accessory pieces on teams that are already stacked and play the game the right way in spite of them. This roster can't carry guys like Kyrou.
Think about it. The players that play a game similar to Kyrou are all long gone from the playoffs. Marner and Panarin come to mind. They dazzle in the regular season, then disappear dhen the playoffs start.

STL Blues - off-season with CAR
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AC14</b></div><div>How are you going to downplay someone getting 70-75 points the past two seasons?
That’s good for top 40 in the league in point production. Virtually right in line with Aho.
Krug thrives in a 3rd pair PP1role. The issue is Carolina doesn’t need that unless Gostisbehere walks and burns falls off.
It’s wild to me though to act like 8.125 for a guy with Kyrous production at ages 23 and 24 is a “little too much”.</div></div>
I think Krug makes a lot of sense for CAR. Although the Canes are a legit contender, their PP is deficient. Krug is not the top pairing D that delusional Doug Armstrong hoped he would be, but he's a serviceable bottom 4 D with exceptional offensive ability. CAR could easily manage his minutes and benefit from his play on the PP. Add Kyrou to the equation and the Cane's PP could be elite.
I get that Krug's contract is an albatross, but given the huge amount of cap space the Blues would acquire in such a move, and given the influx of young, cost-controlled RFAs heading for the roster in the near future, I think the Blues could comfortably manage to retain $2M/year on Krug.

Say it with me: We are not trading Kyrou. Then write it down. :)</div></div>
Buddy, you crack me up in all the best ways! :) I know you're tired of me trying to create a scenario where moving Kyrou makes sense, but he reminds me so much of the young David Perron who really didn't develop his game until he had been bounced around the league for several years. Let's face it, Kyrou is not playing a complete 200' game after 5 years of Berube and Ott and playing alongside Ryan O'Reilly, David Perron, Braden Schenn, etc. Now that he's guaranteed an additional $65+M prior to ever demonstrating that he could, or would, play a mature NHL game, he's comfortable and unlikely to change in this environment. And don't underestimate the negative impact his soft play has on the team. The guys doing the heavy lifting, battling for pucks along the boards, going to the front of the net, backchecking, taking hits to make plays, etc. get tired of the double-standard. Schwartz and Schenn were sick and tired of beating their brains out while Tarasenko cruised the tops of the circles. Now that you're rebuilding the team, a lot of new faces and some quite young, it's important to get the culture right.
I think Kyrou has a high ceiling, but his maturation as a player has stalled. I think he needs a change of scenery and could have a hugely positive impact as a complimentary piece on a contending team, e.g. Brett Hull with Dallas and then Detroit.

Because the Blues have a brutal log jam at LD, Perunivich should bring a similar skillset as Krug, Kyrou has amazing offensive abilities, but he is not a #1 RW. On the other hand, both of these guys are elite offensive players. Carolina seemed to make sense.
