Markstrom to detroit
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PuzzledActuary</b></div><div>No you're right that the value is far too low, but I don't think Marsktrom returns a 1st and A prospect from anyone. Maybe Jersey</div></div>
I don't actually think he's worth that, but I think there are teams desperate enough to pay that (New Jersey like you said). Calgary doesn't really have a reason to ship him off right now and I think until Dustin Wolff is fully ready, they'll just keep Markstrom unless an offer like what I mentioned comes along.

Red Wings Playoffs Bound
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawksguy81</b></div><div>Wings can get a pick for Maata. That deal seems ok. Holl takes more than a 5th to dump. At least a 3rd, maybe a 2nd. Fabbri and Husso won't get picks back either. Wings lukely attach picks to move both of them. Future considerations at best.
If Stammer is leaving Tampa, it's going to take more than $6m per to sign him.</div></div>
Holl doesn't cost that much to dump. At face value yeah, his contract is ****. But the buyout is so light that you would never pay that to move on from him.
To me, if you're Detroit, you <em>try</em> to find somebody who will pay very little (Or take him for free) with retention just to avoid eating the extra two years of buyout cap hit. If you can't, just eat the buyout cap hit. There will be several ELC players on the roster in that time.

Marner to DRW - Is this in the ballpark
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Swedish_Mafia</b></div><div>Detroit doesn't have the elite talent on the roster today to compete, and it isn't coming in the pipeline. They are going to have to make a move for a player of Marner's caliber at some point whether it's through trade or free agency.</div></div>
It's been pretty obvious since the Lottery BS days that Detroit was going to be a STL/VGK style team rather than a COL/PIT type.
Regardless, if you're gonna trade absurd assets for elite talent, you do it for a center, not a winger. Definitely not one who has a lengthy history of falling off a cliff in the playoffs.

Markstrom for Husso and a lottery pick because Eric Duhatschek said so
Markstrom is 34 years old.
Yzerman should pack his bags if he makes this trade.
Better off stapling a 2nd/3rd to Husso's ass and shipping him to Chicago.
Then try to make a deal with Boston for Ullmark.

Yeah... Trading two Top 5 prospects and our 1st for an overpaid winger who disappears when it matters and is one year from UFA is gonna be a hard no.

I honestly think there are teams that would be willing to take Fabbri at full or near full salary, without compensation... Vegas is not one of them.
Also, hard pass on trading a 1st for a 30 year old goalie that hasn't seen .905+ since <em>2018-2019</em>.

Ha. Yeah, so does Anthanasou at times right now. Hawks need an actual NHL 2C who can win draws and be the 3rd man back in the D zone. Hawks have wingers they can plug in to play C already.

I never said he was a better goaltender. I said his stats were better and a big part of a playoff push. He's proving himself at every level. You're the wild one for think a back up in a couple more years and thinking the only reason they drafted Augustine is something to do with Cossa. lol Cossa has a better save % and GAA than Wallstedt. He has been killing it. Just set records with the Griffins and is a huge reason they have already clinched a playoff berth but ok lol

Sorry but Stevie is not making the same mistake Dubas made and trading for an older defensman who had a career year. He did that with Charoit and he will not make that mistake again. Plus you tful Wings make the playoffs so the pick could be top ten. Not even close.

The Red Wings have had 2 bad months of hockey.
But they've also been fun to watch for 4 months.
There's still time to salvage their season this month.
But yeah a lot of Yzerman haters are loving life right now.

Thread:
Something needs to change
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>squashmaple</b></div><div>As an outsider, I have found a lot of Yzerman's moves the past two years to be puzzling. Fact is you're leaving the rebuild with maybe two genuinely elite talents, and they're both defensemen (and one of them is apparently being left in the AHL forever). To make up for that, he's loaded up the roster with middling vets with multiple years on their contracts. You're built to be the 2016-20 Blue Jackets, congrats.
Also, Michigan native Jeff Petry's NMC says absolutely not to that trade.</div></div>
Alot of the leaving with only two elite talents is to do with the lottery luck and the talent in the drafts. We scored with getting Seider in 2019. Got screwed by moving back 3 spots in 2020, Raymond is still one of the best players in that draft but I'm pretty sure he has Stutzle at #1, he scouted him multiple times himself. Potentially elite talent in 2021 with Edvinsson. Kasper is developing just fine, his play away from the puck makes him an extremely underrated pick, also no one else drafted behind him is doing anything yet. 2023 players are still too fresh to judge. I would say some of the most questionable moves are constantly moving down in the draft, the trade he made with LA where they drafted Faber is one that really bugs me, I liked him.
Now got signing the vets. Chiarot was literally one of the best defensemen available, if he didn't give him a good contact (for the player) he doesn't get him. They were desperate for players. Fabbri, I didn't like extending him personally but he had been effective when healthy. Copp, Compher and Holl are all basically over paying to get players as the options available were very limited. The team needed to improve and it has every year since. Most of the other UFAs weren't signed to much term and are just plugging holes.
For the prospects. Edvinsson wasn't quite ready at the start of the season, he has used this time to develop his game better, he will be on the team next season. Kasper wasn't ready, missed training camp and was recovering from an injury and surgery to start the season. He's developing nicely but putting him in the NHL probably not a good thing. Berggren is the one that bugs me. I think there was a desire for him to work on his play away from the puck. He should have a roster spot next season as well, if not then they better move him for his sake. Soderblom hasn't earned a spot and looks lost out there at times, disappointing actually. Mazur was probably the only other one close to being able to contribute. Albert Johansson should be getting a shot as well.
Also referring to guys like Copp and Compher, they will be needed to help insulate and teach these young guys as they come up.
Pretty sure he wants to build through the draft but adding players via free agency allows them to help start building a winning culture. I don't think he's trying to speed it up with UFAs.
