<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafsfan98</b></div><div>Marner sticks with Pasternak... That was his guy in the 1-3-1 forechecking system...

It's obvious at this point, you won't take any mistakes Marner makes seriously...</div></div>

Oh I will, when he is the one that made the mistake. But that play is not on him. Rielly and Samsonov shoulder the blame there. Not Marner.

Other things he did definitely deserve scrutiny but certainly not that. It's the same as blaming him for a goal against after a line change when everyone was in good position but mistakes by those players resulted in a goal. The guy wasn't even on the ice.

For the OT winner, had Marner chased pasta, pasta could have back handed it to the point where no one was now defending and the leafs would have been out of position and chasing the play. Who knows what could have happened but in that instance, a dump in from centre to that corner is the defencemans responsibility. Rielly hesitated for a second and changed directions. (Hence why I think he expected the puck to go behind the net). It hits the stanchion and bounces to Pasta who Rielly should have been closer too by then. Samsonov drops to his knees and hugs the post and didn't move until pasta was nearly at the far post.

Samsonov lost focus on that play. He should have stopped it.

It's the picture perfect play as to why he never should have been given the number 1 role. The guy makes saves he has no business making sometimes and that excites people. But then goal 1 and 2 happen. The first goal he was just out of position and the puck went in. If he was square to the shooter it hits him. Woll would have stopped that. Woll would have challenged pasta and either poke checked or slid over in time.

Samsonov I would say cost us more than anyone else apart from Keefe.

And really, anyone expecting high scoring games was ridiculous. Boston doesn't let in much. They defend better than almost every other team. To beat them you have to do exactly what Florida did. Pressure them and force some odd man rushes. Which TO did rarely but look at their goals, most of which were transition plays. Off the cycle they had nothing. But Keefe stuck to that system. Take it up ice, get it into their zone and then maintain possession and cycle until they make a mistake. Well Boston just didn't make any. And their goalie was awesome. Boston didn't make it easy and we Keefe made it easier on them by not adjusting to what they were doing.

As I keep saying, I am not opposed to trading Marner if you get good value. I say this because while it can't be denied he's a world class player, I am not sure he has the mental fortitude to handle TO. So would I trade him? Yes, if I got fair value for him.

If the best we can do is Parayko or some other 2nd pair defenceman who's already 30 years old and signed for another 6 years, then it's stupid to trade him. And you can't let him walk. So if no good trade comes to fruition then you keep him and hope a new coach can employ a better system that provides some offence in the playoffs.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>oneX</b></div><div>Man..reading some of the stuff here..
I'm kinda shaking my head. Yes coaching was an issue but some of us need to stop making excuses for these players.

These current playoffs injuries were an issue but then what about last year? Or the year before? Or the year before that? My point is that Matthews and Marner in particular haven't been nearly as good as other top players around the league.

Looking at just this series for a second, Matthews had one dominant performance. Not good enough guys..it just really isn't.

Marner was mostly invisible in this series and here's why...he thrives in moments where he has time and space but when the playoffs start the first 2 things teams take away is time and space. So then Marner needs to change his game to meet the adjustments that teams make but the dude doesn't have that toughness and grit..doesn't really hit. So what exactly does he bring in the playoffs? Not much.

I'm leaving Willy out of this because he scores in every playoff series and perhaps has taken a step that the other 2 have not.

We need more and better from the top players on this team. They need to look around at their peers and ask themselves why they haven't had similar performances.</div></div>

Matthews wasn't healthy, you can't hold him to the fire over that.

I get the hatred of Marner. And as I keep saying, if you can move him for fair value, do so. But if you are trading him for the sake of trading someone and lose it handily. Then you made a mistake.

They should have fired Keefe last year. How would things have gone with a better coach at the helm? It's hard to say but if you eliminate all the variables. One thing that has been a constant. Keefe's teams do not score in the playoffs when it matters. No one does but Willy.

So trading Marner for two lesser players and thinking that is going to mean the world is frankly just emotional nonsense.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aadoyle</b></div><div><strong>Elliotte Friedman on 32 thoughts, he thinks:</strong>

-There's mutual interest on Bertuzzi and Domi staying

-The Leafs want to extend McCabe

-Keefe likely out along with some assistants, Berube is a front runner

-Shanahan may be out, but wont be replaced by anyone

-Marner &amp; the team may both be ready to move on

After Marner's comments idk about the last one but it has to be explored if true

McCabe would love to see back, I think MLSE lets Shanahan's deal expire then they dont hire a new president

Keefe and Boucher are 100% out no questions asked. Defense and PK got better as the series progressed from game 5-7 so Ryn and Chywoth might be safe

The one concern I have with bringing Domi and Bertuzzi back is you cant properly address the Dcore or goaltending

Unless Marner goes or JT retires.</div></div>

With Treliving staying, expect McCabe getting way too much and immediately being a problem. Marner I am still on the fence on. It would be such a leaf situation that he'll be traded for two lesser players who will not make up for the loss of Marner. Both will be overpaid and older. Then Marner will win and light it up outside of the TO media.

His no move clause hurts us here. Not really on value but limits us to where we can trade him.

Right now the only way Marner can save face and win fans over again would be to resign July 1 for way less than anyone thinks. 8*10 or something. If he refuses to take less than Willy then he's never going to be loved in TO. And he can't handle negativity.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>draft_em_sign_em_trade_em</b></div><div>And if you trade him, ideally it should be for a Dman, because the Leafs Dcore will not get a sudden improvement by adding any Dmen from this summer's weak UFA selection.

And I don't hear any rumors of any top pair Dman having trade bait potential. Maybe Stl but why would they want Marner and why would Marner want to go there.</div></div>

Despite the nonsense from the mob on this site, everyone wants Marner. Fans just want him for essentially nothing. Why would St Louis want him? He's 27 years old and way better than anyone on their team. However, they don't have a top defenceman. So why would TO trade him to St Louis?

Parakyo is 2nd pair defenceman. Krug sucks, Faulk sucks and no one else there matters.

I do think they can add Roy or Pesce (hopefully Roy because he's not massively overrated.) in FA either player is a very good addition. They have 18 million to fill out the roster. Roy at 6 or less would be a good move. After that, if you can get Domi at 4 or less, I would do that as well. And then just find value where you can.

The priority is a new coach. Keefe is not a winner in the NHL and he was outcoached every year in the playoffs. Never adjusts, he's done. Shanahan doesn't handle coaches right. Babs should have been fired when he lost a game 7 to Boston for the 2nd year in a row. Keefe should have been fired after last year's playoffs.

I hope MLSE fires Shanahan, Treliving and the entire coaching staff. Find someone good to take over and find a proper coaching staff.
