Habs Oilers Nurse
That first oilers trade is brutal. Nurse is a 6'4" fast skating, hard hitting, defensively sound, offensively gifted top 4 dman who's on pace for 42 points this season. If you want him be prepared to give up something of value. I don't see the Oilers giving him up unless you give us a legit top line winger back. Gallagher at least, but even then, I'd rather have nurse, who's still an rfa after this contract. Just being honest. Nurse is just too good to give up unless we get a great return

so we're retaining 33% of that contract AND paying a 1st and 2nd and a prospect? wow you might be on something strong. nobody needs to get rid of a player that badly. also you cant get nurse for that unless you added the 1st and 2nd rounders and a prospect

In this year's draft, a second and a 4th round pick are going to be bottom six players maybe some top 9 max. Any other year fine. But the draft this year is weaker then usual

Ok...
1) a 2nd and a 4th doesn't get you a late 1st and even then Gus is not worth a late 1st. 1 flash in the pan season won't get him a 1st. See every trade made like this using the trade tracker. you won't find one. Not even moving from 32 to 31 (mainly because it hasn't happenrd before). Moving up in the draft really depends on the position you moving to. Example look at the Ott-NJ trade in 2017 i believe it was. Moving from 12th to 11th cost an additional 3rd rounder.......
And 2) <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockey44</b></div><div>In this year's draft, a second and a 4th round pick are going to be bottom six players maybe some top 9 max. Any other year fine. But the draft this year is weaker then usual</div></div>
Weak draft year? Every year the pundits say this year is great and this year is weak and yet they say this only using one simple equation. Is the draft top heavy? and is the 20-40 range ambiguous? That's it. There is no such thing as a weak or good draft. Half the good players in a draft come from rounds 2-7 years later anyway. When they say weak it just means the top 2-3 picks are not franchise players and that the players available in later half of the 1st round will be pretty much set in stone for the teams picking in that range. That's it. Doesn't mean those players aren't good, just means the top 30 players in the draft are pretty ambiguously agreed upon.

Yeah, I get that as well, but we also have to think of him for our future. He might be our future Top Line Pairing with either Parayko or Pietrangelo.

Habs Again LHD and Draft - trades with Blues Wild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RoadRunner72</b></div><div>I know what you're saying about not giving away any futures. And Bergevin said the same, however he also said a few years ago Subban was not going to be traded. However, if you have a guy like Dunn who has now proven he can get it done at the NHL level, that type of player to me is far less risky than the 17 year old late 1st or 2nd round pick who's got less than a 50% shot at an NHL career. Defensemen take a long time to develop, so you draft that puck moving defensemen in the second round this year, and by the time he's 22-23 and ready to really contribute at NHL level some of your key guys in Price and Weber are now mid to late 30's.
To say you're buying high on Dunn is wrong in my opinion. He's having a career year but he's only 22 years old. So there's a good chance he's a 40-50 point per year d-man going forward. That's why he's valuable. That's why the Blues fan above says they really aren't interested in moving him regardless of the offer.
Guys like Brodin and Dunn look like sure things for top 4 based on actual NHL results. Draft picks are great but carry much higher risk and longer timeframe. Even Juulsen, who looks really good, appears more likely to be a 4-5-6 defenseman at this point.</div></div>
I say you are buying high because his value has never been higher. He's having a career year and who knows if it's sustainable. It's no different than trading Tatar.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RoadRunner72</b></div><div>I bumped the draft pick up to a second for Dunn. I think the value's not too far off. If the Blues really want to shake up their leadership this off-season, maybe the Habs could take the last 2 years of Steen's contract (if he waives NMC) in place of one of the other pieces listed in the Dunn trade
The Oilers trade is more about opening up roster spots, could have been any team and lower picks in return.</div></div>
We aren't really interested in trading Dunn. Keep whatever you got their Dunn is a future Top 4 if not Top line Pairing D-man for us.

Suggested Trades MAKE AN OFFER
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RoadRunner72</b></div><div>I noticed Dunn and Edmondson were not listed as untouchables - I would think they are the future on the left side D.
What do you think Dunn is worth, if a trade offer was coming from the Habs ? Let's say Juulsen (NHL RD), Lindgren (AHL G) and a 2nd. Two good prospects plus a pick for one.
Or do you think St. Louis would be more into roster players - say Lekhonen for Dunn ??</div></div>
So I didn't list them as untouchables because they aren't really that elite D, but it will have to be an overpayment to get either of them imo. So I would say Edmundson costs a 1st in my personal opinion. He is a good Defenseman for us, and Dunn a little less maybe a 2nd, and 3rd, but an offer could get be thrown in and Blues could take it you never know.

Habs and Jets Swap Pieces
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RoadRunner72</b></div><div>It's all about cap space - Jets need to re-sign Laine, Connor, and hopefully Trouba or a replacement for him. That's likely $25M per year for those 3 alone. By moving Perrault they gain $4M in cap space for 2 years for a guy who is not a core piece going forward. They may not want Peca at all, Jets have a lot of promising forwards who need ice time.</div></div>
Trade Trouba and have Niku step into the top 4 D then they won't need as much cap space, trading Niku would be a really dumb move by the Jets.

Also I think Calgary paid the Islanders a 1st and two 2nds for Hamonic less than 2 years ago. So they'll definitely want more.</div></div>
I gave more "ready" players to STL because they arent in the rebuilding stage as ottawa is. I gave ottawa a decent prospect, a young 2/3 line defensive center and a 1st (for rebuilding purposes) as STL i gave a top 1/2 left wing scorer, 3/4 line youngster who can crack the 2nd line soon and a 2nd round draft pick. I could've sweated the pot a bit on tarasenko but he is n the block and hasnt being playing to his "All-Star" self as of late.
Travis hamonic has played 112 games with calgary getting 23 points and being a -2 so i believe is value has went down a bit. Also the flames over paid for him at the time.

Habs Ducks what is Mahura worth
Mahura is in his first professional season and held his own in his time with the ducks. His offensive game is where his value is. I’ve thought he would be worth pick 20-35ish, late first early 2nd. Highly unlikely he is even available tho. If the ducks are going to make a big shake up it’ll be a Dman that’s moved probly in the offseason and Mahura will be apart of the reason why that trade could happen.

Now you've gone completely counter intuitive to the point... Why trade Juulsen and Shaw just to get Mahura back?
Shaw is not disrespected. Since you must have missed it:
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div>Shaw is better than other teams fans give credit for but even then not sure he'd get Mahura back.</div></div>
He is simply not worth what some of us Habs fans think. Under perfect circumstances, he may be but there is a reason why us Habs fans keep trading him....
Shaw is making more than he's probably worth and he has multiple documented concussions so he could be a LTIR for his career at any point with one more. that is why he isn't as valuable as some think. Not because he sucks. He is a good player. Just not worth 4M a year and not with his current health risk.
You don't need to add more to this trade to make it work. You need take Shaw out and add different players that fit Anaheims needs. Shaw is not Anaheims need.

Shaw is not a cap dump. (see below) Mahura is still a decent prospect with more value. ANA have too much LD. Would be nice if they would share with others ;)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BurgerBoss</b></div><div>For some Habs fans, Shaw was a cap dump, but now that he has had a semi good season, he has around the same value that Simmonds has. Which I don't agree with at all.</div></div>
Somewhere in between? A poor man Simmonds. Gritty guy who can play everywhere on your line up, PK and PP. Just without the same talent as Simmons and more fragile.

Habs and Flyers
I'm neither a Philly nor Habs fan. I'd decline if I were Philly.
In most trades the team that gets the best piece wins. Juulsen, looks like an NHL defender. I am not convinced he is an impact defender.
Ylonen: I really can't judge prospects playing in Europe who I haven't followed, but he looks like what he was recently a 2nd round pick (playing in a mens league at Draft +1 but only doing okay)
Mid first, and a mid 3rd.
Ghost is a great defenseman to build around and importantly he's signed long term through his prime at a very good contract and is just 25 years old.
He is essentially being paid like a #3-4 dman and is a borderline #1 dman (likely a very good #2).
My problem with this return, is simply that I don't see a good shot at game breaking talent coming back to Philly
Also to F50Marco, sure, you could offer sheet someone with an unmatchable contract, but then you'd be stuck paying someone like 14 million. here you get a player for 4.5. Also you can call a late first, and early second and a future first, 3 firsts, but the difference is you know what they are. The danger with offer sheeting is there is so much unknown. If you miss the playoffs one of those years and your pick wins the lottery...

Gostisbehere is exactly the type of player the Habs need. The price if that's the case may be too high for us to consider it though.
Juulsen - 26th OA Former 1st rounder
Ylonen - 35th OA, basically a late 1st rounder
2020 1st rounder
2021 3rd rounder
Three 1st rounders and a 3rd is almost the price you'd have to pay to offersheet the best player in the league. If your willing to give that much, might as well offer sheet someone to a unmatchable deal. It'll cost you four 1st rounders but hopefully you'll be a lot better for it and those 1st rounders will all be late rounds where the chance of hitting a star player is diminished.
